DragonKnight Health, and DPS?

So I posted this in the general forums, and got a few responses. However, I think most of the hardcore folks who know builds chill here. So here is a pic of the build I'm currently using. The picture doesn't say the armor type which I use Heavy Armor. Most of which already has Stamina recovery or increases.

Build%20Editor%20The%20Elder%20Scrolls%20Online.png

The problem most people are saying is that I'm using all my attribute points in Health instead of putting them in Stamina or Magicka. The reason I did this was to prevent me from having to use spells to increase my chances of living in combat.

I'm looking for tips/tricks/builds that can help me use the Dragonknight to help others in dungeons or in PVP.

    Dragonknight make the best pve tanks in the game, sadly the tank build is terrible in pvp.

    However you could go dps and be decent in pvp and viable in pve. Go to deltia or sypher and look at their magicka dk builds.

    I need to do that. The Magicka build makes the most since to me. Almost all the heavy armor I've found is stamina based so investing my points into magicka would be smart. I want a good balance in health though. I hate getting into PVP, and dropping like a fly in two seconds. I like to stand my ground, and have a decent fight playing off one bar. I don't mind using both bars in a fight, but it's easier for me to just use the main bar.

    As a VR14 DK since launch, sigh..... Lets try hitting a few points. Also, keep in mind that what is on PTS will be live in less than 18 days, so it also has an effect. (Please remember, you asked for this...)

    First off.. your build. At level 46.. umm.. OK.. I guess.
    1. Your taunt.. good.
    2. Low Slash or its morph, good for snare and building ultimate.
    3. Sorry no idea what that icon is, (And you have it on both bars?)
    4. The "Flaming Sword" Good, some damage, with the best part with the right morph, you get a heal at the end.
    5. GDB, DK tanks little helper..
    Ulti. Dragon Leap.. well.. its a cool effect, it gives AoE damage. and.. its a gap closer. Kinda useless as a gap closer, because you cant just use it when you want. Pretty much, maybe good for solo builds, but if I am healing you in a dungeon, either you take it off your bar or I quit.
    (Try Standard of Might family instead.)

    Bar two
    1. Is that.. Venom Arrow? Solo.. well.. yeah. But... Umm.. no.. no... no.. you are not a tank if you are using a bow on your second bar. You are a wanna be DPS. You should have a resto staff to keep yourself alive.

    Lets stop here for a second and explain something.. in AvA, you want heavy armor, for defense, but, well.. if you are leveling in PVE, no.. no.. no.. its only for a tank, which is why I assumed you were a tank up to this point. You must have missed a basic mechanic in the Coldhabour tutorial and on the tooltip bar.
    a. Magica is for spells. It affects spell damage and healing. Larger Magica pool = bigger hits from spells, both damage and heals
    b. Health is for staying alive. Thats it. As a DK, it also makes your damage shields bigger, which is counted as part of health.
    c. Stamina is for non-staff weapon damage. It affects your DPS with weapons. Bigger Sta pool = more damage. It also allows tanks to block. More Sta pool = more blocks to more mob hits.
    This is why, up to this point, I thought you were trying to be a tank. You said below you were putting all your points into health. You must DPS like a Ramen noodle thats been in the soup for 3 hours. BOW skills, in particular, and also 1HS skills both use Sta to power their damage.

    To cast spells, the idea passives are in LIGHT armor. Yeah, I know, you arent doing that, but you are talking about a magica below.
    To regen and use Stamina efficiently, you need to be in MEDIUM armor, which is generally NOT tank armor but DPS armor. Guys with HIGH stamina pools to make thier hits hit harder.

    One other aside, while I am offtrack already.. WHERE IN THE ASDF did you fiind this build editor. I see six icons out of the 12, as one is duplicated, that are either out of date, or some artist imagination of what that skill would look like. Some I can guess from being in game so long, but two, I have no idea what they may be. Next time, do screenshots of your build from in-game, edit them down and then post them. Its probably why you have few are no responses. You have so much wrong, they dont know where to start or how to tell you.

    Back to the skills
    2. Silver Bolts.. good for killing daedra, vamps, werewolves.. so, some damage. Just dont morph it pull the mob to you while you are using a bow. Does not work well.
    3. NFI
    4. NFI
    5. Obsidian Shards, approx. Good.. damage shields are good, unless you are USING A BOW, at range. Then you need to worry about other archers and spell casters. So you need your Reflective Scales instead.
    BTW, you DO KNOW that with the damage shield, you get a buff to healing for a few seconds? So, ideally, you would want to hit shards, then GDB. Hard to do with them on two different bars.
    Ulti #2 Werewolf.. Well.. good. RIGHT NOW, it gives you passive Stamina regen. In 18 days, you dont get regen unless you change into a werewolf. If you insist on staying range, try a ranged DPS type of ulti like Meteor.

    While I hardly agree with most people, YES, you are doing this wrong. If you want to tank, put most points into Health and use a resto staff. If you want to be survivable DPS, put your points into mostly Sta and a few into Health and keep using your 1H/Bow.

    Right now. sorry, you are more of a hindrance than a help. DKs make awesome tanks, or Sta DPS, or, in my case, adequate healers/magica DPS/Sta DPS/Off tank.

    See, I am doing it wrong. I have balanced magica and sta, with 10 points of my 62 into health. I rely on magica to heal me, plus the damage shields, and others. People dont want me to group to heal tho. The ones who group with me once want to group with me again because I can tilt a shaky dungeon to easy with knowing the right skills to use when. I use Wykkyds gear swapper and skill swapper to change between fights. I will be Magica Light armor DPS/heals one fight, then Sta Med armor Bow/2H the next trash mobs. I even use two resto staves in AvA, because my heals are often the difference between a group wipe and a victory. But, I am not uber anything. Which brings up:
    Kavatchian wrote: »
    I need to do that.

    I kinda know Sypher and Deltia, thru the game. I have used both of their builds, and frankly, it ISNT THEIR BUILD that makes them uber. They know how to play the game. They know thier own strengths and weaknesses, plus those of most other players. They rolf stomp 99% of the players they face. You should hear when they fight my AvA guild leader. Its always close, with much cussing on their part, often. I, personally, cant keep up with them, so I dont try. I look at thier builds, go, cool, see if I feel like borrowing and testing an idea, and then work on what works for me, and those I group with regularly. THEY are the ones who know you and can give you the best feedback for how you are doing.

    Just to reiterate, overall:

    Spend points in magica if you want to use spells to dps and hea (and most racial skills)
    Spend points in stamina if you want to use weapons.
    Spend points in health if you want to tank or just be slightly more survivable
    Use mainly light armor for spellcasting
    Use mainly med armor for weapon DPS
    Use mainly heavy armor for tanking. They put the Stamina on there to help tanks block. better.

    If you want to do a magica build, then you dont want to drop a FEW points into magica. You want to go back to the shrine, pay to reset your attributes and put A LOT of points into magica. (Last time I checked, Sypher was.. 40 magica/20 health/2 sta, i think.) While you are at it, you want to reset your skills, and use all magica morphs for your racials You also may want to look into armor sets that give passives to magica, like Seducers.

    One last side note from a rank 24 Major. In Cyrodiil, until you are VR14 (16) in a few weeks, you are using a template. Does not matter what gear or stats you have, except for set bonuses. Either way, you WILL DIE immediately to a 42K Snipe from stealth, no matter how much HP you have. Ava is more about being able to survive and the group you run with helping each other than the stats you have solo. Which means, you have TWO bars. If you want to fight with one hand tied behind your back, its your death. Dont expect the other guy to not use his 12 skills against your six. You got your second bar at 15. Know what that means? ZoS has wanted you to spend the last 30 levels learning how to weapon swap and use BOTH BARS.

    Too much data from me in one sitting, I bet. Have fun. B)

    @Darlgon

    Thank you for your feedback. The skill you were having trouble figuring out is Obsidian Shard. I think what I'm going to do is go for the Stamina build using Med Armor, and putting points back into Stamina. Switching to the DPS role I should do two handed or duel wield? Also the reason I mentioned about playing on just one skill bar is due to my crappy internet connection. It sometimes has a lag in between switching. I also play on Xbox One not PC which is why I can't pull a screenshot.

    Again thank you for honest feedback!

    Edit: Darlgon you mentioned resetting skills/points. There is a place in game where you can do this or do I have to purchase the scrolls in the crowns store? I play in Ebonheart Pact.

    Found it.

    I have fun with 2H/bow right now, as it gives me both melee and range DPS. I may actually drop Magica and level another class/race to be a healer, when needed and use my DK as a Sta DPS when IC drops. We get a free skill point rest then. Just a note on that tho, 2H is WAY op on live, so expect a nerf on it soon after IC gets onto live.

    I don't feel like typing out my entire build, but I am currently a DK stamina DPS and can give you some pointers. I have all points into Stamina and use food to boost health and stamina. I have used both duel wield and 2h, but I prefer 2h. The must have skills will be wrecking blow, executioner, Rally, and Flawless Dawnbreaker(when slotted you get a permanent boost to your weapon damage). I also put stamina on all my gear and use the weapon damage boon. Feel free to ask specific questions, if you have any.

    Do you run specific gear? Heavy, Med? What foods are good for Vet 1 to 2? I'm looking to do good amount of damage while staying alive. When I'm running around questing solo I tend to run into issues when I hit a big group. So I've switched some things around again.

    Currently I'm running Attribute points in Stamina only. Running full set of Heavy with stamina enchantments. Using Duel Wield with the following on the first bar;

    X = Unstable Flame
    Y = Inferno
    B = Rapid Strikes
    LB = Steel Tornado
    RB = Obsidian Shield
    LB+RB = Standard of Might

    Second Bar is all the bow abilities.

    I have 42 points in HP,and 20 in health. I main mostly the tank role,and according to the feedback of others I am doing it fine.

    For dungeons I prefer defensive stance instead of reflective scales. It gives a passive 8% blocking cost redux when slotted and when activated works alike to scales. I scrapped stone fist and other variations early. It's a single target stun, good with the earthen heart passive to regen some stamina. I use cinder storm instead. AoE snare, some damage to everyone, and generates some threat on you.

    Molten armaments is okay, when on DPS role.Sadly it has a short duration, so wont do much good for a tank, improving the generally crappy damage. Once again good for stam refilling, but I prefer some defensive buff like hardened armor or some CC like talons.
    Side job of the tank both in PvE and PVP is to be a major annoyance. CCs are your friends. You have to controll the battlefield.

    Extended chains, talons, cinder storm, fossilize, shield slam with extended duration. Whatever locks down, slows, hampers enemy, or forcing them to use resources.

    As for ultis I use Magma armor. It's god mode for DKs. A team mate is down? No problem, pop magma armor and resurrect. With that on you cant die (caps incoming damage in 3% of your hp).
    As for the other ulti its either the Banner for tons of damage, or ferocious leap for the damage shield.

    Ardent flame abilities I skipped completely.I have no magicka to make them do considerate damage. I better use my magicka for self buffs.

    In solo PvE, I simply use the two hander in my second bar. You need to wreck everything as swift as possible. I use med armor that gives extra damage (Ashen grip for instance, later on Way of the fire 2 pieces are also god sent).

    When I am on DPS duty in dungeons, I go with two hander, med armor, s&b. I can become an off tank if something goes wrong, but if our tank's doing his job allright, I just keep slamming the enemies. With my setup, at Vr14 weapon damage standing around 2000. It's not super high, but it's okay I believe. There were no complains from my guildies so far.

    @Winterpsy, thanks for the comment. I keep tossing what I want to do in the air. I like doing DPS, but I like living as well. It always seems when I 'm running dungeons we lack a healer so I like to stay alive. I use all heavy instead of using the Med armor everyone recommends because of the bonuses to stamina. Of course I have all my attributes in Stamina, and I run stamina enchantments on all my Heavy gear to make up for that.

    Tanking seems fun, but at the end of the day I want to contribute more to kills than to sit there just taking hits for the team.

    I've been playing as a tank thus far. Have 28 points in health, like 16 in both health and stamina.

    Was wearing whitestrake and death wind sets. 5 heavy, one light and one medium.

    Made vet 12 in hist bark and seducer last night. Yet to try it out in dungeon yet.

    The extra magica certainly made my dps a lot better. Pretty much running and ardent flame bar so the increased max and recovery for magica was helping a lot on mobs. In theory that should help me keep shields up in dungeons too. Will find out later today. It better work out, or I wasted 40 grain solvents for nothing :(

    If you're doing vet dungeons you could probably do with a healer though...

    I have to second that completely.

    ZOS is making the worst job possible for Stamina Heavy Armor DK. They have no clue, no practice, no experience of competitive melee PVP. Or they do it in Group where skill do not matter. I don't know the reason but they have it sooooooo wrong.

    Heavy Armor is the WORST POSSIBLE PVP design, full of MUCH weaker passives than the other two.
    In fact you can still tank better in PVP, being a sorc in light armor, have much superior mobility and DPS.

    Zenimax just DO NOT GET IT concerning melee stamina PVP. especially for DKs.

    You can try Magicka however, since you will have more options and access to class abilities that you will be able to spam (talons, scales, lava whip) you won't be able to in stamina version.

    In health version ?... Well either you are casual and you will like it, but this setup won't get you far.

    To sum up the following link, with your setup, you won't have enough resources to fight, break free and charge... wait you have no gap closer apart from ferocious leap ? It's free(er) GG for range PVPers at a similar skill level.

    • Heavy Armor PVP sucks.
    • Stamina DK sucks.
    • Melee PVP Warrior Style sucks.

    But you can still have fun if you are not a competitor with e-sport spirit.
