No one was saying its impossible to join groups and trade, or join guilds. Nonone is saying that people arent doing the best they coukd with the options available.
WE HAVE BEEN SAYING THAT ITS NOT EFFICIENT AND SEVERLY LIMITED!!! AND THAT ADDINGNTEXT CHAT WILL MAKE ALL THOSE THINGS EASIER AND MORE EFFECTIVE!!!

Its only a niche crowd if your wilfully ignore the vast support behind text chat...which you have done.

Vast support? You mean the 500 votes on this convoluted poll. Admittedly scewed by people who don't even play the console version. Some of them even going so far as to admit in this very thread that they voted yes just to shut the pro text pups up. Or did you skip over those posts? Aaaaaaaaannnd even if the 500 votes were legit, which they are not, that is 500 out of millions of players. Looks like a minority to me & should to anyone with basic math skills.
ESO is not millions of players deep on console. Also the official forums are not the only place lack of text chat is being discussed.
As of the middle of june, sales had reportedly topped 800,000 on PS4 and 600,000 on xBox One. So, you've got me there. They may not have topped 2 mil yet. I imagine they are significantly close if they haven't.
Not exactly because companies don't release the digital sales numbers. Those figures are likely from hard copy sales.
The actual figure is likely much higher.

Without text chat this game is just Skyrim: The Ugly & Boring Edition.
Not even a basic MMO.
Back to playing other games, will probably check again in a few weeks...
Drake_Fury wrote: »I would like to mention to those who keep saying that console = microphone that in 25 years of console gaming (got my Nintendo at the age of 6) I've spent more time using text chat than voice chat. But you guys will just put on the blindfold because since there have been thousands of FPS games (which I find extremely boring) and sports games on console, they never knew about text chatting.
Text chat will always have an edge in a mmorpg, simply because of the size of the world. In a FPS game, you will play for about half an hour with random people, then you will get into another game, with more random people, which doesn't matter because in the end, except maybe for Battlefield, there isn't much cooperation needed, and if there is, it's always going to be in the middle of action. There is no city with 150 people standing in it, trying to sell to each other, build groups, make friends, do general chatting while taking a break. There is also no real guild importance, since the goal of the game is kill more guys than the other team, and not respect mechanics in complicated boss fights.
In a mmorpg, at least for players who want to tackle hard content (known as raids here), the guild has a lot of importance. Staying in touch with your guild is important.
The current system has good points. In the middle of the action, voice chat is always better to make quick corrections. But while you are in town, the current cacophony makes it unbearable, which make some people leave the voice chat completely, which itself causes other problems, because since they left voice chat, they won't hear when you try to talk to them.
At least with text, you make sure people hear (or rather see) what you say.
Currently, if you want to take a break of your headset to rest your ears, you miss all the important info. With text, you can go take a coffee, go to the bathroom, go outside for a smoke, then you come back and read everything that's been said while you were gone, now that is neat.
I'm done with solo content, and by done, I mean 1000+ quests completed and tamriel hero achievement. All that remains is group content, and when my friends get on, I want to make sure that I know it so I can build a group and go spam dungeons, because that's the fun part of a mmo, what's fun about solo stuff that I faceroll holdin L2 and spamming square?..
At this point, I log on, do my crafting dailies, and then .... I go PvP while waiting on my friends to log on so we can do dungeons. Did I mention I didn't like PvP? Well I do now, but I do it because it's the only content that I can do solo that still rewards something to work for. That or emptying houses and resetting to farm motifs... Very entertaining... But then, when I PvP, if I get a group, I won't see it when my friends log on, because I'll be in group chat, and then I might miss my window of opportunity to get a tank, because 1 of my tank friends logged on, said something in guild chat, no one replied, and he left.
Another of my friends, I won't see him ever in guild chat, because the sound quality of the in game voice chat is so poor that he keeps cutting off. But on PSN party though, we hear him very clearly. But again, if you're in PSN party, you will most likely miss everything hapening in the ingame chat.
ZoS must have understood the importance of guilds on PC, but then forgot when time came to make the console version. The guild chat is made so that you can communicate with all your guild, wherever they are, but on console, going to your guild chat means talking to 5% of your guild, sometimes less than that.
You guys keep saying that we're a minority saying we want text and that people ingame all think otherwise, think again. I've seen alot more people ingame agreeing that text chat should be implemented than otherwise, and that is only coming from those who are using the voice chat, which is far from being everyone.
How useful is it to have an area voice chat if more than 50% of the player base leave area chat as soon as they log on?
ZoS needs to come to their senses soon enough, because the amount of players in the game is decreasing by the day, and I know for a fact that many of them do so because there is no text chat.

I think some people can't understand that this post is about text chat in the imperial city update.
Zos said not anytime in the near future.
Even with the uhm five actual console guys pushing for text chat on this thread , zos still wouldn't even hint at sometime in the near future.
Take the hint, its free.
This thread is officially pointless.
If that can comfort you, so be it. But if it was true, there would have been no need to say so.
Just think about all the floating texts requests, buffs and debuffs icons requests, there were also "nothing new to say about it in the near future" and now we know that ZOS is working on it. Feedback is never pointless, but non constructive statement like that is, in my opinion.
Please, understand that different people have different needs and likings, that doesn't mean someone is wrong to dare write down his point of view if it's not the same as yours...
Lol, you must think you re in a text chat is good discussion.
The title of the thread is 'should text chat be included in the imperial city'
Zos said no.
So this thread is OFFICIALLY pointless.
As in the answer is no, move on.
We could start a new thread about the merits of text chat.
That thread would be less pointless.
If the thread is offically pointless, why does ZOS continuely close other text chat threads and refer them to this one?
You really need to pay much better attention to these types of things.

But text chat will give people an OPTION. An ALTERNATIVE.
There is absolutely not single logical reason AGAINST having text chat in ESO for console.

Say hi
Then say I'm looking for a dungeon guild.
You will be assaulted with invites from people who share your interest in gameplay.
Most people by now are using guild chat or group chat, but are still listening to area chat.
It may take a minute for someone to switch over or to plug their mic in, but the game really opens up with guild mates.

No. That's at the core of the discussion.
Text chat will induce lag especially cyrodil.
I think that there should be no text chat introduced in the imperial city update.
There will already be more than enough lag without some kid typing 'yo mamma' jokes into text chat.

It seems like you too have ignored just about what everyone has been saying....
So here let me break it down to you.... again...
I UNDERSTAND YOU. NOW UNDERSTAND ZENIMAX WHEN THEY SAY "NO".
I hope they understand no more money then too. Cause people are just gong to tell there friends oh don't buy this game the creators never listen to what the players need.
The players don't "need" it. Didn't you see the last post I was responding to...
If not, here it is again ⬇No one was saying its impossible to join groups and trade, or join guilds. Nonone is saying that people arent doing the best they coukd with the options available.

So as you can see, tis merely a minor quality of life issue for a niche crowd of text fetishists that has no place in the console version.
Its only a niche crowd if your wilfully ignore the vast support behind text chat...which you have done.
Lol "Hey lets ignore the majority and tell them they are actually the minority"
Thats why your comments are viewed as a joke.
As far as console is concerned players by a wide margin prefer phyiscal copies over digital downloads. Also there is little way to account for units purchased via either medium vs active and retained players.
When viewing 'players' as an indivdual who currently owes the game and is regularly playing it, one cannot simply look at the sells numbers and infer there are X units sold, thus there are X players. Because the sells numbers do not account for players who have moved on to other titles.
Furthermore, a company will rarely give an accurate number of the active player base, because it is, from a business stand point, in said company's best interest to inflate the number. This is why instead of saying over (insert timeframe) we've had Y unique account logins, they say (insert game) has over Z subscribers. Also that subscriber measure is normally taken right after major content releases which will always boost numbers due to players returning to play new content.
That's fantastic & well known. I appreciate you pointing this out but unless the number of active players has whittled down to less than 10k, 500 ppl don't mean squat. Which was the original point. Not that anyone in this thread is interested in acknowledging anyone with a differing opinions point...
This thread should be retitled "The World's Worst Amateur Debate".
MaximusDargus wrote: »I dont see how PC players feedback falsifies the pool.
PC players have access both to third party voice chat and in game text chat. They can tell everyone how difficult and annoying would be the game without in game text chat.
It is a main way of communicating, while voice chat is optional only. I cant imagine sitting in my room and yelling to mic "will sell raw materials, will sell raw materials!" while sniffing the chat trying to pick up that one guy who might be yelling "anyone got mats for sale" from among noises of vacuum cleaners and trashy musing of people who cant turn off mics.

Noticed the two new guilds are existing clan from Destiny and the other is a few small groups from other console games/clans. Rerolled a NB Tuesday who is now lvl 47 and ran a VR 4 to Vr11 last week all using what's in the game. No forums, no text chat, etc.
Sold some recipes and picked up 3 purple motifs and had others sent to me while I sent gear sets to others and made sets for noobs. One guy I just met offered to take me to his grind spots and so on and so forth.
Just sharing that there's different ways to play the game and text chat in all these scenarios never came up during discussion in 3 weeks which is about how long we've been arguing, debating, commenting and discussing this thread.

OK. Good post there.
I do have a digital copy.
I do have to point out that on consoles subscription fees don't drive player population as much as new content.
GTA online uses a drip feed of new content to nurse their player base. When it wanes they drop another bit.
It works.
We already know ESO is attempting this model instead of the traditional sub model to keep players at the table.
This drip feed of content is more successful with console gamers who do have fickle loyalties.
The imperial city, orc town and the dark brotherhood are going to boost community numbers.
IMO, text chat would slow that needed contents development.
Cheers.
Text chat is so needed in this game.
We need a way to communicate within entire zones, and to all of our guilds at once. Voice chat is not efficient enough to meet these needs.

As noted by several others posters there are several reasons to have an alternative to voice chat in any game that requires communication including sexism, rudeness, and outright vulgarity (not to mention a lack of moderation).
I know that ZoS is not ready to comment on this issue yet but their decision to not give console text chat really is one of the biggest blunders of the console version (the lack of integrated mod support being the other). Their defense of not being able to use a keyboard while on a couch is so bad it's laughable. Anyway, I can't wait for ZoS to finally respond to this issue but when studies demonstrate what we have been claiming about segments of gamers not using voice chat, it is not the end-all solution that so many claim it is and alternative forms of communication need to be made available to include as many of these segments as possible.

That article...and the reality of how younger people are choosing to communicate isn't a good thing.
You'll also see where younger adults are having lots of issues, meeting new people, interviewing for jobs and communicating with older adults. Bullying is an issue for young adults and the kids those teachers and adults are raising...people who shy away from talking to people or who lack interaction with people verbally with long-term have additional development opportunities down the road or choose to avoid interactions where they have to share themselves vs a icon, pixel or any other misrepresentation of the real person. Look at social media...
I see where you're coming from and that perspective is a reality that's proven to be a negative result of today's non vocal communication. Its called social awkwardness which is somewhat of a direct impact from not developing good verbal communication skills prior to becoming an adult..
to add to this, parts of the male vs female job market in certain industries or communities where there are a lot of programs to make sure women get jobs because there are proven facts that women seem to be unable to get jobs compared to men with equal pay.
Lets use sales as an example...verbal communication is essential whereas, written communication comes secondary or if at all, is after a verbal interaction.
Companies have toyed with a text support help desk for years but overall the best way as far as time and to eliminate frustration per survey results is over the phone or in person.
Lastly...that article while it portrays a topic that seemingly relates to voice chat, doesn't signify or relate at all to what the reality is here.
The reality here is not due to women, men, girls, boys, but as a result of what this company felt was best for the type of game and experience they hope too offer one of their markets of customers.
its just that simple...arguments of why it needs to be added with opinions hold no merit when the decision comes from the developer who feels that when faced with any oppressing or limiting factors of communication the decided upon the best ease of use for this platform. The end result is voice chat ...
mrskinskull wrote: »@mrskinskull are you just trying to inflate your forum posts? 15 posts in the last two pages on what you call a pointless thread and you are telling people to spend more time ingame.
Oh, I read the thread while working out and just respond to the thread posts as I read them.
So there will be bursts of replies.
Yes this thread is pointless because zos has said there are no plans for text chat in the near future.
This thread is about text chat in the imperial city.
That's not going to happen.
If a fresh pro chat text discussion starts, that would be better suited for the debate occurring here.
Until then this is the place.
Cheers.

Dude, I think your throwing way to much research information while throwing a sociological stand point in the mix... We want text chat, that is all! We won't turn into hermits or forget how to talk to people in person. Its a video game that compliments text chat, and in fact mmo's for many many years complemented the use of text chat, look at its pc counter part! Works just fine.
