Improving items after enchanting them?

Hi, just wondering if there's any way to improve an item you've built after you've applied an enchantment? E.g. can you remove the enchantment and then improve it? I didn't realize I was limiting my ability to improve stuff in the future when I was applying enchantments...

You can apply a new enchantment anytime. The new one replaces the old one. From what I have read, you get the most out of your enchantments if the item quality and the glyph quality are the same. eg. Yellow Weapon and Yellow Glyph.

As an aside, when it comes to armor, some slots are considered "large" and others "small". The values on the enchantment dialog tooltip apply to "large" pieces. Check the simulated "after" item in the dialog to view what the item will be like if you are unsure.

Then how come weapons/armor I've made no longer appear in the list of items I can improve at the blacksmithing station once I've applied an enchantment to them? I've tested this with both weapons and armor.

Is it possible that you are prohibited from improving an enchanted item if you did not create the enchantment glyph yourself? Maybe that explains it. (I'm aware that the weapon/armor must have been made by the player, but maybe this is true of any applied glyphs too.)

Do you have those items equipped when you're at the crafting station? They have to be unequipped.

This. Took me a hot second to figure this out, but it makes sense that the same mechanic that prevents you from accidentally deconstructing weapons and armor, would also prevent you from upgrading.
