Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

So, ZoS is getting rid of VR ranks. Bummer. I just found a reason to keep them.

Started a new character as I wanted to try sorcery. So far, I'm having a blast, but there's one thing I'm missing about VR: the time it takes to level up!

Whoa now, don't get angry.

See, now that I'm back to standard leveling, I'm crafting new gear every two levels. Why in the world would I want to enchant and improve just to throw it away in a couple of hours?

I did not miss this when I hit VR. It was nice to keep a few things around for a couple of weeks, rather than hours. :sunglasses:

Veteran ranks aren't going away just yet. In fact, they recently hinted that they might even get increased to VR18 before they finally get around to implementing something to replace them with.

I know cause that's 16 more points into health or stamina and 16 skill points into crafting.

Why wouldn't they? What exactly is changing apart from re branding veteran levels to 50-65 as an example.

When I'm leveling, I usually only craft new gear every 4 or 6 levels.

I don't care if we don't get the Skill or attribute points, I will care if they just rebrand them as levels after 50, because the whole idea of getting rid of VRs was to make the level cap 50. If they rebrand them, why the hell should they even bother? It wouldn't change anything, and all the annoying problems with vet ranks would still be there, just under a different name.

I did read somewhere that a dev or moderator or someone did say that we would keep skill points and attribute points though, but no source on that, and my memory is a bit fuzzy of what was exactly said.

I've gotten to where I only craft gear for my alts every 10 levels. I make some level 4 gear, them once they hit level 8 or 10 I make new armor, and once they hit 16 I make more. From there on I only do it every 10 levels. Saves crafting mats and time. Just keep repairing till its time to upgrade. May not work for everyone, but I guess I've gotten good enough to make it viable.

I am curious as to how things will work once they do finally get rid of vet levels. I've never played any other mmo but friends who've played WoW say they're up to 100+. That just sounds... crazy. So it will be interesting to see where we go after vet ranks disappear.

When I level an alt I craft gear like 1-2 times:P Lvl 3 and lvl ~25. Then at around lvl 40 I get too bored of repairing it and just run around naked. Doesn't affect much since in the current state of the game I can solo WBs and dolmens 5 levels above me naked just fine. Which actually kind of sucks, but it does make the gear issue non existant.

I often do blues with green or blue enchants every 10 levels like the guy above me, sometimes earlier if I want a different look. If you do set gear you'll smash through everything either way.

When they remove the VR ranks will they at least provide some extra content for levelling up through whatever they replace it with? I've been VR11 for about 6-7 months now because every time I log in I have nothing to do, and when I do find something to do the progress is painfully slow (I'm only about 20% through the xp to next level).

Craglorn is pretty much pointless because it take hours to get a group for anything. I've started doing the devles in Cyrodiil but it's looking like that will only provide about half a level and I have done all the other quests I can find. I have done most Veteran Dungeons several times and they only provide a tiny amount of xp. I really feel like giving up on this game as I am not even maximum level yet and I am running out of things to do.

Why would you want the level cap to stay at 50 this entire games life? Thats r e tarded you have not played many mmorpgs i take it and make no mistake this game is a mmorpg. Theres nothing wrong with vet ranks and champion points... And omg who cares if theres a gap to reach the max rank. Yea your gonna have people able to pwn you in pvp but that wont change if they remove vet ranks, u will still suck so just suck it up and level up and eventually you will be pwning newbs... This is how they coded the game to be. People need to stop complaining and if you dont like it no ones forcing u to play... You could go pwn all you want on skyrim and leave the rest of us be

I really don't get why people are so against levelling past 50. Other MMORPG's level up to 100 and more.

What would be the point in remaining lvl 50 for the entirety of the game's life? So you can do everything when you want to? Instant gratification kills a game's life span. You will have people on the forums complaining that "why can I do everything at level 50? I've done it all! I'm bored!"

Champion Points are nothing but artificial passives. It's not actual character progress. And what about all gear and weapons? Will those all be level 50, too? So you can have all of them the instant you hit level 50?

I remember where you actually had to work for progress in an MMO rather than being given everything now now now.

Let's see V18, V20, V22 and more! I like to feel progression in a game, not feeling static and everyone on one flat level.

Why craft new gear every 2 levels 1-50? Try every 10 levels. Or do what I did a level 20 set until VR1.

It's a waste of time, just get a good VR1 set and start from there.

It's not that I have a problem with veteran ranks it's that I have reached a point where I have run out of content to keep me coming back regularly. There is nothing extra to unlock when you hit maximum level so there is no motivation to reach it, especially when the pace of the game is a real grind for those last few levels. In other MMOs there is a lot of content that is unlocked when you hit maximum level such as new dungeons, raids, gear progression etc. As far as I can see there isn't any of that in ESO so there is no motivation to progress any further because I have experienced all of the dungeons/raids at V11.

Most people did not want VR to go per se, what they wanted was a stop to the painful amount of time it took to get characters to end game PvP \ PvE content. ZoS then decided to "replace" the VR system with the even longer grind of the champion system.

As for the OP, just play the game naked. At levels 1-50, armor is optional. Realistically, you can wear almost any armor and be fine, just slap on "whatever" with exploration or training to level up the armor skills.

Crafting is cool and all but relatively pointless until you hit the veteran ranks. It helps a bit as you level up but you're better off saving your good improvement mats until you're in the veteran ranks. The gear you get from dungeons and quests until then should serve you just fine. :)

No reason to craft your own gear until you get to vet levels. The world gear is perfectly fine until then

Never understood the big complaints about the VR system. I started on console release and am almost vr11 now. I took my time on cadwells and did only the main quests in the zone. Never done much grinding only killing mobs around the quest objectives. Finished cadwells @ vr9. I really dont even try to level just do a quest here and there while waiting for PVP server queue and before i know it im almost to the next rank after maybe 4-5 days. Play maybe 4-6 hours a night while my kids are sleeping and work 40-50 hours a week. I can see the complaints about leveling up alts, but that is starting the game over by choice and I do not sympathize. A person chooses to level up an alt, and the game designer should not have to shorten their base game to cater to people who choose to "beat" the game twice (or 8 times). They are supposedly making it much easier to level up in the new patch and I would be disappointed if they give in and remove veteran ranks down the road also.

I don't even craft anything up to lvl 50. I just use drops. Then I craft V1 armor that carries me through V14.

I craft once at 15, once at about 35, then at vr1. Pointless to craft new gear for just a few extra numbers, the game is already so easy once you've learned how to play it.

I craft Training/Exploration Gear a mix of Heavy/Medium/Light level 3..... around level 30 update same set.... V1 design class specific set.... Finish Gold and make a grinding set to get to v14.

Armor works fine this way.... weapons may need a mid update in VR if fights take to long...
