ive been a moderator on a lot of forums and while you're busy a lot it doesnt stop you from posting where people have ideas or questions
Because when you're a moderator of a (presumably small, since you had 'a lot of them') forum, writing what you think doesn't matter because it only commits you and said small forum. ZOS is a relatively big company and any comment from a ZOS employee here will be considered an official opinion / choice / decision / promise from them. Gina Bruno does probably not think like Rich Lambert about everything and anything, and Rich Lambert isn't alone in making decisions, so no, they can't speak "freely" and comment as they wish, regardless of time and availability.
ZOS is a corporation, any comment by a ZOS employee, no matter what level, is corporate communication, not personal, and has to be agreed upon as a corporate decision beforehand.
Sometimes they answer technical questions / facts, but it's rare. I guess they consider part of gameplay to find out about game mechanics instead of them explaining them all to us straight away.
literally saw a mod reply to some joke thread the other day saying

you have a huge misconception of what its like to be a moderator on a forum
two of the sites i worked for had 80k+ people in the forums regularly. im not sure how many are in this one but 80k is a lot and i still had time to reply to some threads
the only time they ask you not to reply (in most cases) is if there is an argument or if its political or something so it doesnt cast any thoughts toward the company/site/ect

Stopped reading after that. I love the trade system, I do NOT want to see an auction house and so do MANY people (even though MANY people think like you, it's by far not "almost everyone").
There are enough miles of threads on the topic to travel to Masser.

And you seem to have a huge misconception of what it's like to be a a corporate employee dealing with customer communication. As I said, it's not (only) a matter of time and availability.
Of course the mods here laugh and joke with us every now and then BUT even though it's nice, I don't think that's what people expect mostly from them. They want answers to their questions and approval/disapproval of suggestions (just like you), deadlines for changes and bug fixes, etc. And no moderator on this forum can do that unless given an official position and green light at a corporate level.
