How do guild traders work (buying from them)?

I just interacted with Panersewen, representing "The Lost OP", near the Firsthold wayshrine in Auridon. I purchased an Argonian Motifs book and an Orc Motifs book and it deducted the 3,000 gold from my inventory... but the books did not appear in my inventory. I have been through literally every possible place in my inventory. I even went to a bank to see if maybe the items direct deposited there. Nope. Then went to a crafting station to see if maybe I learned the skills automatically when I bought the books without having to read them. Nope, those two styles are still locked to me.

Went back to the guild trader and those two motif books are gone. My money is gone. But I did not get the merchandise.

Did... did I just get ripped off? I would have thought a guild trader would be a legitimate thing to purchase from. Pretty angry right now because I don't really have a whole lot of gold and to spend it and get NOTHING.

Items purchased from guild traders arrive in your mail box. It's not instant though. You either have to log out/in, or wayshrine to another zone for them to appear.

Hmmm, I did wayshrine from Firsthold to Vulkhel Guard when I went to check my bank and the crafting station. No mail notification, but good to hear it may take a while. I was concerned I might have been immediately scammed.

Will try logging out and back in. I have to do that any time I purchase Crowns in the store, too, which seems... really weird, honestly.

You get those items per mail. You might have to rezone/relog to get them appear in your mail box, because the mail system is kind of lazy.

Yay, okay, they were both in my mail. I just didn't get any sort of "new mail" notification, so I would have never thought to look there, actually.

Thank you for the quick response, guys! Some of this isn't entirely intuitive nor seems to be explained in-game, hence some of my dumb questions. :P

Don't feel dumb for asking. Make ZOS feel bad for their horrible trading mechanics instead.

I do feel the system needs improved. I trade in the guild trader all the time and do feel the system needs a lot more work. The game could do with a more open market for trading as the current way sucks. I mean there should be a way where you go to a board an select what you want and it shows you all the people trading that item.

You dont need to log out to buy crowns.Just look below your crown balance in the crown store.Theres a button to buy them.It will warn you that you are opening an internet page.Just do it.The game minimizes.Your game will be there waiting for you when your done.

Not on PS4. I've bought things twice now and each time, this is what happens: I go to the Crown store, click to purchase Crowns. It takes me to the Playstation Store and I purchase the amount of Crowns I want. It then takes me back to the game and it shows the original amount of Crowns I had. Does not show that I bought more Crowns to add to that. I literally have to log out of that character, then log back in again. Only then will the Crown store update and say I have, let's say, 700 Crowns instead of my original 200.

Traveling from Firsthold to Vukhels Guard or vice versa is not going to force your mails to pop, because they are in the same zone.

What WILL force mails every time, is entering an Outlaw Refuge - that counts as a change of zone.
