Question to those opposed to text chat:
Why does it matter to you if they add or don't add text chat? If they don't add it, good for you. If they do add it, then you get more options to play the game, group up or sell things. I really can't wrap my head around why some of you are wasting so much energy to keep options that benefit the social aspect away from the game.
Please explain to me why you guys are so against such a basic mmo option, please guys, tell me! I'm starting to lose faith in humanity.

My initial post on this subject sums up my thoughts on the matter:
"I've played more MMOs than I can remember, and have used nothing but text chat in all of them. With that said, I don't see how text chat would work on consoles. Entering text on Xbox is clunky as all hell, and I realize that that's the best they can do. It takes easily five times longer (possibly even more, I haven't actually timed myself) to enter a screen name or password on Xbox compared to PC. Text chat conversations need to be quick and easy, and that's just not very doable on a console. Also, because you can't easily resize and relocate UI elements like you could on a PC, you're running the risk of the chat box being either too big and obtrusive, or so small that you can't read the text, neither of which will make it useful.
Now, let me make it clear, I'm NOT against text chat. I just don't find the concept of it to be practical on a console."

I read that some people went back to FFXIV, well on the contrary I left FFXIV to play ESO because I like the minimalistic UI, I like that there is no text floating over every heads, I like that the quests are actually worth reading and listenning, I think that ESO is more "realistic" than any other MMO out there.

It will most definitely not be added. That is a definitive answer from Zen.
Any further discussion is an exercise in redundant futility.
However there are things you can do to help you cope with Zen's decision to change things up a bit.
Firstly, I would recommend thinking about where you fit in on a personal level using the chart below.

I guess you might mean the other game that still charges for content and keeps a mandatory monthly sub, because its player base is so tiny. In buisness terms, obviously.
ESO needs to hit the bullseye of casual gamers here.
Text chat is a ui cluttering gust of wind, IMO.
Tiny player base? You're not talking about the 2nd biggest MMO on the market, are you?

You seem to conveniently forget that ESO started as subscription only but had to drop it because it was, as you put it, a financial failure.
Actually the subscription was removed according to ZOS largely due to the release requirements for Xbox One and PS4.
Nothing factual suggests otherwise but let's get back on topic
The final fantasy game took a simple player game and moved it into a world
World of Warcraft took a single player game (multiplayer modes) and made a multiplayer game
TES allowed ZOS to take a single player game and make a multiplayer game.
In each of these games the developers had existing developers move the product BUT in this game a different group of developers set out to keep an existing customer base and move to a different genre. The big difference tho is that only two have done this on console.
Only one has done this in three different platforms.
Different DeVs, diff game genre, different platforms AND this is the only game that's done so with different UI's by platform.
Before you throw another game into an argument you've got to find a good example.
There isn't one game that has done so with different DeVs and different UI , different communication and peripherials by platform on three different networks.
To say it's easy cause XYZ game did so has no bearing at all
Actually it has alot of bearing, because if several console mmo's have it.... why can't eso?
Your logic makes no sense.
And now to the chat bubble people were talking about.
This is why n chat bubbles won't work. They can't reach the entire zone, it would just as limited as voice chat. We need a text based chat system that can reach entire zones... you know... like pc text chat....
So many illogical conclusions and suggestions in this thread it is rediculous.
First it has no bearing to use another random game that isn't consistent with how this game came to be as an example of why this game should mirror another game that obviously so many left to play this instead.
Second it's not my logic but the reality of the examples many ppl are attempting to make as an argument. It's not apples to apples so this is why so many arguments arise...the comparison isn't a good one and allows a lot of room for debate.
The chat bubble is something others are talking about.
Scroll way back or just follow that my attempts to focus the discussion or what some suggest as derailing is actually based on the ZOS response of what they would be open to adjusting which is radial emote text (this is in the ESO live that I keep suggesting ppl watch)
Finally...yes this thread is ridiculous. Pages and pages of comments with many who had no clue that this was already discussed reviewed and responded to by ZOS months ago
Your logic as to why other console mmo's can't be compared to another console mmo is...let's say... ilogical...
This is a quite simple discussion that has been fluffed up by your illogical banter.
You took place in and supported the chat bubble idea and I simply explained why it will not work.
Now once again there is no other system that will allow people to speak to full zones of players like text chat can, so once again... why should a great tool such as that not be implemented when it proved itself successful on every other console mmo, AND also proved successful on the PC version of the same exact game.
You have yet to give a logical response to that question and also have not given an alternative that is just as effective text chat.
And they won't give you one, man. There's a reason for it: they're TES fans that don't want anything that will make this game viable as what it is: an MMO. There's no excuse for opposing a text box that can be turned off; in fact I'll do them one better, the default setting can be off and we'll be the ones to undertake the onerous task of turning it on in the option menu.
They want a single player game(possibly with the added spice of running in to a PC or two while questing) and nothing we can say will change that.
Respectfully this topic became illogical after the June ESO live episode.
June was the month ESO launched; it was illogical before the public even had access to the game!? No, dude, I'm sorry. Companies, especially those offering continuing services must and do listen to overwhelming consumer demands when they've made a poor choice.
That's what's happened and that's what these flood of forum discussions have been about.

Lol.
You must mean the five guys who pester the forum more than they play the game.
I won't name and shame but cmon, this thread is long because it just loops and the pro text crowd just types out long blocks of grey text rehashing the same failed idea.
Flood?
Go play the game, its way more fun than this.

A blatant attempt to push people's buttons and start a "forum riot(lol)" and get this thread closed; don't fall for it.
1) We all know ZOS has never made a definitive statement on this since the game actually went live and the complaint trickle from beta became a flood.
2) Trying to psychoanalyze players' frustration at the lack of networking tools in the game is laughable. Let's say you buy a cell phone that's marketed as functionally identical to an iPhone but can only make cellular calls and use VOIP. You then protest to its manufacturer and join other consumers in their protests. Can your mental state be evaluated by those actions? Is it reasonable for anyone to try to perform said evaluation? No? Ok, let's ignore that post shall we?

Actually, I am trying to help. It appears as though most of you are still in the denial or resistance stage. Staying in that stage for an extended period of time can be a sign of mental illness.1) We all know ZOS has never made a definitive statement on this since the game actually went live and the complaint trickle from beta became a flood.
The last statement that was made was that there would be no text chat window as part of the UI. The last live letter reaffirmed that decision when they said that they see the requests for it and have no new news regarding a change in the previous decision. And flood? Heh... yea... that's what that annoying dripping sound in the distance must be... the raging "flood"...2) Trying to psychoanalyze players' frustration at the lack of networking tools in the game is laughable. The console product was not advertised as a replica of the PC version. In fact, it was always well known that the console version was getting the royal treatment as far as the UI was concerned. So much so that some in the PC crowd were "flooding" the forums requesting the PC version get the same UI.
I wasn't trying to evaluate anyone. I was only giving the opportunity for those willing to take a moment and self reflect upon their own place in reality. No harm intended. You may want to take a look at where you might be on that chart, it could help. And remember, I'm here for you!

Excepting the fact that area chat is just that, AREA. God forbid I want get a message to someone out of proximity, then what? Area chat is woefully lacking in that sense. If we had zone chat channels or designated channels for LFG or trade, maybe voice would be functional, but the proximity limitation is absurd albeit necessary to prevent overloading.

Don't know what the console UI all entails, but if it involves forcing voice only communication and having to be identified in game by account name instead of character name; then no thank you.
I'm quite happy with the PC's interface the way it is, thank you very much; especially compared to what I'm hearing about the consoles.

Just sharing that there's different ways to play the game and text chat in all these scenarios never came up during discussion in 3 weeks which is about how long we've been arguing, debating, commenting and discussing this thread.

No one was saying its impossible to join groups and trade, or join guilds. Nonone is saying that people arent doing the best they coukd with the options available.
