Low FPS in certain areas, mainly cities?

Hello!

I have just joined this wonderful game and am loving it so far. However, I couldn't help but notice the low FPS in certain areas of the game, mainly towns and cities, etc. I have of course tried looking this up but I've only ever found old posts about it, mainly with stuff that has already been dealt with via patches, etc. I'm sure it's better now than what it was, but still not overly ideal!

I'm running 2x R9 270x's in Crossfire which is more than enough to play the game on max settings at a constant 60fps. Does anyone know of any good solutions to getting the game to start running in that area?

Welcome to the game...don't get too comfortable!

Its like that in ALL cities...its just the way it is until they pull their fingers out and fix it....maybe next year

Just as a heads up for you...they break something old/new every patch...we now play "The Elder Scrolls Forums: Tamriel in Read Mode", due to the fact that you spend more time on the forums than you do in game.

    Thanks, GP!

I see... yes I hope it's something they're able to sort out soon.

I've noticed, which is probably the most obvious, the way to get performance boost is to turn down view distance. That shoots FPS way up high, even in cities. However, I think in this game it isn't asking too much to be able to play it at max settings with full view distance at high FPS!

Lower FPS in cities were an issue since last year.
    Nothing new.

This is a longtime ongoing issue for some people, including me. In my case, I suspect that a slower internet connection (6Mbps down, 0.8 up) is a big factor, but this issue can afffect people with 100Mbps connections.

Note that one of the patch note items for update 2.1 (on the PTS) is that there are performance enhancements dealing with how information is downloaded etc. in environments with many objects and moving parts.... i.e. cities. I am hoping this may help. (Assuming all the other new bugs in 2.1 are fixed so that we can actually run it in a stable manner :)

Where does it say that exactly?

I am Running a solid Crossfire system with R9 280x is crossfire and stay about 50-60fps in the city. I tweaked some of the setting for crossfire and it seemed to help. Create a profile and adjust some settings as Crossfire/SLI can be buggy in some games.

Anyone who has been playing on PC for a long time (e.g. since beta or launch in 2014), if you are having a lot of stutter issues in cities, try what seems to have worked for me: do a complete UNINSTALL and Reinstall of the game, including the launcher etc. (save your Addons folder etc.). This seems to have made a big improvement to my game performance; it's as good as it was back when I started. I can only speculate that something in the cumulative patching process makes for a very slow process for loading game files or something. We might need to repeat the complete reinstall every 6 months or so ongoing.
Warning: the game downloads nearly 40GB worth of files; this can take a while on slower connections (15 hours for me).

    @ferveo,
refer to the Miscellaneous section of the PTS patch notes for 2.1:
Fixed a number of general, commonly occurring game client crashes.
Fixed a number of crashes that could occur while using the guild store.
Made significant performance optimizations for situations where the game needs to load a large numbers of characters or fixtures.
