These things have become INCREDIBLY annoying. They have no animation nor show any red impact circle and are being abused across all servers/campaigns.

You can always get one yourself and start abusing it as well. Nothing feels better than slapping a huge zerg group thats capturing a resource with couple cold fire ballistas. Easy 10+ kills every time :-)
Some groups are so dumb that you can do this again and again and again... and again.
Trolling zergs feels amazing. I suggest you try it yourself.
