Why do guild tabbarts cost gold ?

I hate forcing my guild members to pay gold to achieve the guild tabbart. I've always wondered, why they cost gold at all and why we can't decide, how much gold they should cost and if they should cost something at all.

I told all my members to buy them and meet me afterwards, so that I can pay them their gold back. Ripping off guild members is a no go ;)

The simple answer is that the gold goes to the guild bank so that the guild can possibly get a trader. Unless it's a PVP guild, or you really, really want to support it, just don't buy a tabbard. PVP guilds like for the members to be wearing tabbards so their opponents can know who just wrecked them. ;)

Actually,I wouldnt mind paying gold if I knew w hat they would look like.I wear one color armor, and bought a tabard that clashed hideously with it.So,I was stuck with it in my bank because I paid 2000 goild for it.

I want my members to wear them, to represent our guild and to show how much style we have ;) Can't force them to pay gold for looking fabulous

The cost is pretty minimal, and I just reimburse any guildy that is a poor milk drinker. I actually wish they were BoE so I could pass them out like team jerseys before the raid.

It's a gold sink. There aren't a lot of gold sinks in the game, and this isn't a very big one, but that's what it is.

Unless they've changed things since the last time anyone bought a tabard in my small guild that I GM (which would have been right after tabards came out) the gold doesn't go to the guild bank - it just vanishes.

That's an excellent point. I mean you can always ask a guildie who already has a tabard to meet you somewhere while wearing it to see what it looks like, but you shouldn't have to do that. There's an interface for the GM to use when designing the tabard, but I don't remember there being any way for a regular guild member to preview it.

2000 isn't really an issue but the issue is this:

-It an appearance slot vs a costume
-it can only be used for one guild so you'd need to buy a new or separate one for each guild
-it's also per character vs per account
    -PC (PTS)/Xbox One: NewBlacksmurf

I bought too many I will never wear, because of this reason. Lol

Agreed, but theoretically you only have to buy each guild's tabard once, and then you can use your bank to transfer it between your characters as desired. In practice I don't do this, though, because after trying to do it for a bit I kept on forgetting which character had the tabard in inventory (because I never remembered to put it back in my bank after playing with guildies), so I just ended up buying tabards for all of my characters that I use when playing with guildies.

Some of them are not so fashionable lol.

The cost is actually pretty minimal. I'd like to see them on a collection style tab though... even though I don't think I have more then 2 on any one character.

Seriously? That's harsh. I always thought the guild got a cut. I stand corrected.

I think they should, but unless things have changed they don't. It would make a lot of sense to me if they did get a cut (not the whole amount, but some of it).

Yeah I was told that as well. That the gold doesn't go to the guild bank, the system eats it.

Indeed, why gold? They could cost e.g. crowns instead; ugly, regular tabards for the lesser people would cost a few cronws, while epic, whale tabards would cost ridiculous amount of crowns.

Is this one of those things that you need 10 members to create one?I wouldn't mind creating my own and paying 2000 for it but the ones I've seen look like poop. :p

I can't recall for sure if you need 10 members in the guild to create one. If you're the GM, though, it'll cost you more than just 2,000 gold to create a tabard, because you first have to pay to design the tabard (you pay out of the guild bank, so if there's no gold there you have to deposit it first). It's been so long since I've done that part of it that I've forgotten how much that costs. I want to say 10,000, but I could be totally wrong. Once you've designed it, you still need to buy it from the guild store for 2,000.

ha what? So I have to pay 10K to design it then buy my own design? I'll have to check next time I play as I created a guild for myself and 2 friends. I want to get 10 members or more but on console there's no good way to recruit as we get swamped with random invites all the time.

Tabbard creation is unlocked at 10 guild members. Along with guild bank. The cost for design/purchase of tabbard not being put in guild bank (50-75% would be a good amount) is a bit irritating.

    I figured as much thanks.
