Provisioning Use and Worth

As a veteran of all the Fallout games but brand new to ESO I was just wondering how often most experienced players use food items for boosts. I am VR4 right now but have yet to PVP at all. I know they can be useful in game, but what about PVP? I would assume that everyone would have some kind of boost on.

Also, do provisioning items stack? Simple answer that I more than likely looked over at some point. Thanks for the help in advance everyone!

    I am relatively new, but at VR 2 I have found provisioning extremely useful. I am a stamina nightblade and bought a recipe for a VR1 level Blue Food item that significantly boosts my Max Stam and Max Health for an hour. This equates to increased damage and more survivability. Now that I have the recipe, I do not loot many drink ingredients. I just pick up game, corn, and millet (the three ingredients for this recipe). I took the passive that allows 4 food items per recipe made. I make more whenever I have all three ingredients and basically can stay boosted at all times.

    The effects do not stack. If you eat something, and then eat or drink something else, the effects are gone from the first item you consumed, and you only have the effects from the 2nd item

    I am also a stamina nightblade archer. I've found a lot of blue foods that I eat on a regular basis, I just have not been creating ANY.

    Any tips for getting started in provisioning at my level? honestly I think its at like 7 right now, haha. Everything else is around 35-40.

    You may consume one food or drink at any time. Consuming another refreshes the duration and does not add to the current timer. Food and drink do not stack with each other, however experience potions will stack with either food or drink. You should always use provisioning as it is a major boon and is very inexpensive to obtain.

    I found it to be one of the easiest to level actually (1st one to 50). I put one skill point into Recipe Quality to get blue recipes unlocked. And always put skill points into recipe improvement as you level up. Then turned auto loot on, and hit every crate and barrel while questing. When your inventory is full, hit a cooking fire and craft the highest level food and drink recipes that you can (they give the most experience, and when you level it up to 30-40, level 1-20 recipes dont give much xp at all). You'll pick up recipes over time, just make sure you learn every one you pick up. Keep creating the highest level recipes until you hit 50. After I hit 50 I stop looting everything, and only pick up the ingredients I need to make specific recipes. I also invested skill points into Chef at that point so you can make more of the ones you want. I dont bother with drink related passives since I dont plan on using drinks.

    I dont plan on bothering with unlocking purple recipes until end game. They boost all three stats, but it appears that blue provides a bigger boost to the two stats. Plus purples require a 4th ingredient which are kinda rare and hard to come by. Since I dont care much about Magicka, I use Blues that boost health and stamina

    Just a couple of comments related to this
    • Many prefer food over drinks because some abilities are affected by attributes
    • Even if you don't want to craft, you may want to do to unlock the crafting passives that make food/drink last longer and affect potion use (alchemy).

    Gotcha.

    Its not that I son't want to craft, I just have not done it yet. I just use the Curried Kwama Scrib Stew to add some health when I dive into a dungeon.

    Would like to get to the point where I can easily make items that boost all three attributes, just need to get out of the gate first! Haha.

    There's another school of thought that the two attribute foods (ie: Health&Magica or Magica&Stamina) are better than the three attribute foods. The boost to the two are quite a bit higher than the three combined. Just 'food' for thought.

    I use food/drink buffs all the time on all toons at all levels.
    - For dps blue food.
    - For tanks either epic drink in pledges or food in trials.
    - For power leveling blue/epic drinks.

    For PvE questing around: HP & Stam food -- extra damage for swifter clears
    For dungeons: HP & Stam drink -- I am tanking usually, I really need to be able to hold up for a looooonger time.

    Provisioning and food-use are both extremely useful. I haven't been without my food bonus for 30-40 levels (I'm at v10 right now). If you have the patience to get your mats you should certainly at least try provisioning. I will always be disappointed by the lack of skooma though.

    Provisioning: I never play any of my chars, veteran or not, without using the highest possible food or drink buff. Not because it is necessary, but because it makes all things much easier and speeds up many things.

    Alchemy: I chug about 50 detection pots, 25 to 50 speed pots and a similar amount of tri pots on an average evening of PvP (that's something between 4 and 6 hours). And that is probably already more "slacker" behaviour than anything impressive. I do know that some players use pots to provide certain buffs, which means that you will never see them without pot buff during an encounter.

    Bang that purple stuff for pvp and dungeons and you notice a HUGE difference. Levelling is well easy. Frost mirriam can only be obtained by writs and hireling, so you'd need to her on them.

    It is well worth it though

    If you plan on doing high level pve content, want to min/max for pvp content or just make money then having provisioning is very much worth it.
    • Crafting your own food is cheaper if you have the skills invested to get more food from the same amount of ingredients
    • Provisioning daily writs are easy and one of the most profitable ones, recipe fragments sell for a good amount
    • The passive bonus makes your purple food last longer, so it's a better investment
    • The hirelings are worth as much, if not more, than any other profession hirelings
    • Could, if you chose, create Psijic Ambrosia (+XP drink) on the cheap

    The major negative is you'll get in the habit of getting into all barrels, sacks, baskets etc and it's hard for me to break that habit, which is a huge inventory killer. I fondly think back to the pre-provisioning days when I never bothered to look into anything other than backpacks, lockboxes, nightstands and desks.

    Im still in those exact same "pre-provisioning" days, haha. I do go through a lot of things and ALWAYS pick up wood, ore, and currently kreshweed along with runes. Just never bothered to start scrounging through barrels and what not for food. Going through things is not a negative though, its a big reason why I love these types of games.

    After reading most of these comments though, I need to start going through EVERYTHING. Most of my other skills are around level 40 so hopefully I can cap them soonish and concentrate on provisioning and PVP.

    I found a good way to manage food / drink is to dedicate one of your alternate accounts as your grocery. As most people have pointed out, you will identify your preferred receipt and focus on only collecting those items. However, it is silly not to do the top level writs since they often drop the rare ingredients for the XP boost potion. Transfer all your ingredients to your alternate. I find the top level wtis usually only request a combo of about 6 receipts. You can find them in the guild traders. Pull the ingredients off your alt to make the daily writs. Those writs will usually reward a new receipt and 4 stacks of 10 ingredients you can move over to your alt. For fast leveling of provisioning always make the highest level item you can and dont waste ingredients on lower level items. Game and meat are usually in abundance because people sell it in guild traders when they farm other items. Dont forget you can choose to only display the receipts you know and have ingredients for.
