Even if there was an option to always globally mute area chat (which my understanding is that there isn't), without text chat available, there'd be no way to communicate with the decent crowd.
I'm also surprised by how convoluted the "block" option seems to be...

What about in the sound settings? is there a slider for "Voice chat" that can be turned all the way to zero?

Forgive me, since I've not actually ever played on a console, but wouldn't that silence ALL voice chat? People may still want to be able to hear Group and Guild chat.

That would be my fear. I have some great times with voice chat and some bad time but I never would have had those times if people stop using it completely.

Here's where , wait for it , wait for it ,
If there was ta ext chat option , many could have text chat for zone chat , and use voice chat only for guild and party chat.
Of course that makes way too much sense and Zenimax is always right and knows best you know...........
Right. Throwing out voice chat entirely isn't an option either. It's incredibly handy (almost necessary) in some of the harder Group dungeons. On PC, there's a myriad of 3rd-party options (Ventrilo, Teamspeak, etc.) which are typically used.Dekkameron wrote: »Even if there was an option to always globally mute area chat (which my understanding is that there isn't), without text chat available, there'd be no way to communicate with the decent crowd.

Yeah, yeah, we've all read that pamphlet too. And you make the same mistake that its author makes, by equating real-world pragmatism with a defense of bad behavior. Saying "dancing naked in town square might not be wise" is NOT the same thing as saying "assaulting someone who's dancing naked in town square is okay." It's, in fact, quite insane to equate the two. Even Shegorath would know better than that.

Only if you like listening to screaming kids and someone else's music.
Seriously, what's with all the screaming kids?

I'm pretty sure I heard a kid being spanked the other day. I didn't like it but if it was something else going on I don't want to know what it was.
You know you can just leave area chat, right?

Holy F. I would never play this game on console with its current state of communication. In fact the integrated and mandatory voice chat is a complete failure in my eyes and is only highlighted more by not being able to properly turn it off and have the option to use text chat.
As a PC player I seriously hope consoles get these changes because it only takes one idiot to ruin your experience this way...and your not even trying to beat a boss in a dungeon with a bad group; your just in town at the bank, my god.
Even PC players should demand these changes for console, it can only make the game better as a whole.
I actually do not want perma bans, for the mean ones, rude ones, even cheaters. They all deserve a second, third, forth, fifth chance. You don't know them or why they're acting like that, maybe they just were never lived. But you get soo many lives in a video game, you should get extra chances.Zenimax could actually police their own game. One of their reps spending 30 mins a night , in just a few towns each night , instant banning , permanently , anyone who screams about *** , racist remarks , threats etc in area voice chat.
Two hours a night , cleaning up the community with permanent instant bans , and word gets out and people actually clean up their behavior or go away or shut up at least.
Of course that requires effort on Zenimax's part.
Instead they let behavior go rampant and put it on you to report and see nothing done about it.
It would be quite easy on their part , of course they wont do it though.
