Even if there was an option to always globally mute area chat (which my understanding is that there isn't), without text chat available, there'd be no way to communicate with the decent crowd.

I'm also surprised by how convoluted the "block" option seems to be...

What about in the sound settings? is there a slider for "Voice chat" that can be turned all the way to zero?

Forgive me, since I've not actually ever played on a console, but wouldn't that silence ALL voice chat? People may still want to be able to hear Group and Guild chat.

Yes, I was thinking about that, without proper ways to even block people and the admitted lack of logging to prove anything if/when a player is reported...one good lawyer...

If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

That would be my fear. I have some great times with voice chat and some bad time but I never would have had those times if people stop using it completely.

I know but as a last resort when someone is being an ass it mightj be an option. Unless you can leave area chat itself.

Here's where , wait for it , wait for it ,

If there was ta ext chat option , many could have text chat for zone chat , and use voice chat only for guild and party chat.

Of course that makes way too much sense and Zenimax is always right and knows best you know...........

Wasn't trying to be snarky and even if you were, it's not an excuse to berate you by any means. Was just wondering if there was correlation.

    Of course correlation =/= causation.

Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

You can't see it from this video, but I had to unblock someone from PSN, then I could block this guy in the video! It also took a couple tries to block him before it actually worked.

I get that but I met some pretty awesome random people just goofing off in zone with voice. I'd hate to lose that. That being said I am all for text if only because it would give us more options.

Right. Throwing out voice chat entirely isn't an option either. It's incredibly handy (almost necessary) in some of the harder Group dungeons. On PC, there's a myriad of 3rd-party options (Ventrilo, Teamspeak, etc.) which are typically used.

It always just seemed to me that "area" (full zone) voice-chat would be nothing but a disaster, given the crap I already see on PC, only having text chat. Videos like the one in the OP have done a great job confirming my assumptions.

That is a fail on so many levels. Even if the OP was standing there in her undies doing /dancedunmer doesn't give any one the right to abuse her. PERIOD.

Yeah, yeah, we've all read that pamphlet too. And you make the same mistake that its author makes, by equating real-world pragmatism with a defense of bad behavior. Saying "dancing naked in town square might not be wise" is NOT the same thing as saying "assaulting someone who's dancing naked in town square is okay." It's, in fact, quite insane to equate the two. Even Shegorath would know better than that.

I know kids scream for attention all the time, but when someone has been playing for hours and his kids are screaming that they're hungry, you have to ask yourself if Keanu Reeves wasn't right about requiring a license to have a kid.

Zenimax could actually police their own game. One of their reps spending 30 mins a night , in just a few towns each night , instant banning , permanently , anyone who screams about *** , racist remarks , threats etc in area voice chat.

Two hours a night , cleaning up the community with permanent instant bans , and word gets out and people actually clean up their behavior or go away or shut up at least.

Of course that requires effort on Zenimax's part.

Instead they let behavior go rampant and put it on you to report and see nothing done about it.

It would be quite easy on their part , of course they wont do it though.

this is why i set player voice chat volume to 0. but then that gives no real "mmo" aspect besides seeing a bunch of players running around you cant/wont talk too.

i would like to participate in voice chat...but man...in real life im close to a mute so if people tried talking to me they would want me to speak louder or yell or just ignore me lol, this is why i need chat for one reason (besides being mic shy)
Please vote in the console text chat thread so ZoS can see how many people want text chat

...and dueling in the dueling thread but personally I want text chat first...

:( PSN doesn't MUTE, you have to block, and if you have 30 users blocked, you have to unblock someone to block a new person.

Holy F. I would never play this game on console with its current state of communication. In fact the integrated and mandatory voice chat is a complete failure in my eyes and is only highlighted more by not being able to properly turn it off and have the option to use text chat.

As a PC player I seriously hope consoles get these changes because it only takes one idiot to ruin your experience this way...and your not even trying to beat a boss in a dungeon with a bad group; your just in town at the bank, my god.

Even PC players should demand these changes for console, it can only make the game better as a whole.

Yes , on the PS4 you can only block 30 of the ones threatening to *** you , screaming racist remarks , blasting music and so on, only 30.

After that you either listen to them all or choose not to communicate.

I actually do not want perma bans, for the mean ones, rude ones, even cheaters. They all deserve a second, third, forth, fifth chance. You don't know them or why they're acting like that, maybe they just were never lived. But you get soo many lives in a video game, you should get extra chances.

Sorry I just don't agree. I think video game bans would be the perfect way to show someone that behavior isn't acceptable. It's no big loss in their life to lose 30-50 buck on a game for screaming they are going to kill you and *** your sister etc.

If they are given multiple chances in a social setting like a game to act like that, what's going to happen in actual life where consequences kick in.

I find no excuse , period , for someone screaming on voice chat racist threats like I have heard for example. It's not a borderline thing etc , it's them trying to troll and ruin other folks experience.

I think todays world gives too many chances repeatedly for behavior that should be punished the first time.

My kids are complimented often in stores for acting well , while I see other hellions practically running their parents around and screaming without consequences. Mine did that sort of behavior once , and after seeing what is going to happen to them if they do that , they have chosen to not get that kind of punishment again. If they had been given multiple chances for choosing to act a fool , they would continue to act a fool.

I just believe in consequences for your behavior.
