Update 7 and Skill Reset

So it seems a lot is changing with Update 7, with skills, armor, weapons, etc. Are we going to be getting a free skill reset with this update? Seems appropriate. Just refunding effected skills doesn't feel the best route, since some builds are going to be really changed here.

Trying to plan ahead with the PTS data.

Glad to hear it. Where was it mentioned? I ask because going through the dev tracker for an hour before posting left m coming short on the answer.

Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

WHY don't they just add a free respec scroll to everyone's character inventory so they can choose whether they want to respec or not?!?

So, when I read this reply, I was confused, because that is *exactly* what I thought they were doing: giving everyone a free skill reset.

I don't care if they do that by giving every character a scroll or just making the next use of a Shrine of Stendarr free, so long as it's free. What makes you think that isn't what they're doing?

Because a lot of major changes are happening to a lot of skills, fundamentally changing how they work or what builds they're viable for, and this is an easy way for ZOS to garner goodwill with their playerbase after implementing such changes.

If they give a SCROLL they are giving players a choice whether or not they want to respec their skills... but apparently their plan is to give EVERYONE an automatic skill reset, meaning players won't have a choice; everyone will be forced to reallocate their skill points on each and every character they have.

@lolzbuckets That's not how they have done it before. Every character on every account gets an immediate, forced skill point reset the first time they log in after the update. This happens regardless of if you want it, and for anyone who didn't know it was coming, may be a bad surprise, as they have had no chance to record their builds.

Edit: Ah, ADarklore already answered :)

I can just see the fallout of console peep's who do not know this is going to hit them.

ZOS, you may want to put a message out every way [in game login screen, twitter etc] you can to inform the masses. Otherwise it will get mighty ugly.

@IIIMPIII Check out the patch notes -> http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en-GB/discussion/200571/pts-patch-notes-v2-1/p1

You get all skill points reset though, not just the ones for those skills.

I like how they always force you to reset ALL your Skills, rather than just the ones being changed. Who knows, maybe they can't code something to only detect changed Skills and reset those, but it's annoying as hell to have to go through dozens upon dozens of points.

I need to remember to screenshot my Skills the day before 1.7 drops.

No CP reset, there is no need.

    Regarding skill reset:

They need to leave the current distribution as is, with the one-time option to pull points out and place points in skill lines with a similar UI mechanic to what respeccing CP's is.

That way, you could leave alone the things you're going to place points back into anyway and only change what you need, cementing it at the end. A little +/- would go a long way.

I'm actually using this to my advantage right now.

Since I know that I'll have to respec everything once IC drops...I'm using it as an opportunity to level/test out skills I might not otherwise want to spend the points on. Gives me a chance to try out new builds and skills basically for free.

Always looking for the silver lining ;)

No CP reset, there is no need.

Wrong, there is a very high need for CP reset.

Tanks with no stamina regen while blocking? Most points reset to Block Cost Reduction.
Magicka damage dealers who now will take the Apprentice Mundus for more Spell Power? More points into Spell Penetration.

And there are probably a lot more things why a CP reset is needed.

In fact, for my 3 V14's the best thing for me is my current skills but with a reallocation of my CP. Too bad I'm forced to also put all my skillpoints back too.
