Is it cool to interrupt a fight and take the loot?

I've played ESO for a few hours now and noticed two things: (1) players crouching (sneaking) everywhere and thieving things, LOL, and (2) players interrupting another player's fight, getting the easy kill and taking the loot. No. 1 is understandable since we all start out with no money. But is No. 2 frowned upon here? Especially in long fights, where a player spent all that energy during the fight, and you step in at the last second, get the easy kill and take the loot. This is actually made easy with the health bar above the enemy. And of course, the other player can't retaliate because there is no player-vs-player combat (except in Cyrodiil). So is this kind of thing just the way it is in this game? Or is there some "code of honor" among players? I imagine that in group play, friends wouldn't do this to another friend. But those who play solo, which I imagine are the majority of players, it seems there is nothing to stop them from doing this.

If you both fight the enemy, then you both get drops. So there's no 'kill stealing' here, so there is no real 'code of conduct' not to do what they are doing. and in some cases, it can be a help that they give you assistance.

    1. Most people think they need to be hidden in order to successfully steal items but that isn't true at all. I always ask players in-game why the heck they're sneaking when i see them in a room devoid of any NPCs and they're stealing from a container. As long as you are out of line of sight, no sneaking needed.

    2. Loot is shared so there really is no loot ninja thing in this game. As long as you did any sort of damage to the mob, you will get loot just as the other person. The only exception is locked treasure chests which will become public domain if you leave the loot screen without taking all items.

Thanks for clarifying. But I still wouldn't like it if I fought an enemy 90% of the time and someone else came in and took one swing and got the same reward as I did.

On the flip side of things, some enemies are on a longer-ish respawn timer. And they will only get credit if they help to kill the enemy. so instead of waiting around for several minutes while the mini-bosses respawn, you're better of just jumping in.

Then there is the situation where a fight may or may not be "instanced" only for you, as in a quest or storyline. I was fighting an enemy with no one else in sight for a long time and I was sure it was instanced only to me. And suddenly another player showed up and fought with me.

There are very few instanced enemies in this game. Only a few solo-only quests will have these. If you aren't in one of these quests, expect that others could come in and assist with the fight.

This is true. If I come up on somebody fighting one of the public dungeon bosses with a 15-min respawn timer, I'm going to hustle to get a few hits in there.

Some of us use an addon that prevents stealing unless you're hidden so we have to actively crouch even in rooms with no NPCs to loot containers. It keeps you from accidentally stealing things when you want to click an NPC but end up stealing some random junk off the table in front of them. Yes, this can happen, the bank in Windhelm, for example, has junk on tables in front of the banker that can be clicked and stolen in one action.

I use this addon http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info943-NoAccidentalStealing.html because I got tired of paying a bounty for junk I never intended to steal. In effect its a way I can opt out of the theft portion of the justice system unless I actively choose to participate.

Don't forget that you need to get the kill for some bosses to score achievements. It would be pretty douchy to barge into a boss fight and steal someone else's kill that goes towards a dungeon achievement. If you care about achievements...

You know you receive loot according to the way you contributed to the fight, right? (your finesse skill) Maybe he just got 10 gills while you got a blue item.

Have a look at this one

Sarcasm is something too serious to be taken lightly

I was born with the wrong sign
    In the wrong house
    With the wrong ascendancy
    I took the wrong road
That led to the wrong tendencies
I was in the wrong place at the wrong time
For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme
On the wrong day of the wrong week
Used the wrong method with the wrong technique

Which bosses? I've not experienced this mechanic.

I have killed some world bosses solo and never got credit until the 2nd or 3rd kill, but this feels more like a bug than a mechanic.

Apparently "some" dungeon boss achievements (e.g. kill at least 3 bosses or all 5 or... ) requires you to get the killing blow on each.
If you don’t seem to be able to advance in the conqueror achievements, you should know that some of the public dungeons require you to get the killing blow on the boss for it to count towards the achievement.

I think a lot of us were "trained" by Oblivion to fear guards that could hear us picking a lock from a mile away.

Finesse was taken out of ESO even before the PC launch and has not been part of the game since late beta.

If you damage the enemy you get loot too. Everyone who participated gets their own chest or loot drop. No Kill-Stealing in ESO. It's not bad IMO. Doesn't harm anyone and if the other player is solo it doesn't reduce his xp for jumping in. So no harm, no foul IMO.
