Perfect Roe: Ratios & Farming Tips?

As usual, the threads I've wasted time reading are incredibly nonspecific, cryptic, and filled with useless anecdotes instead of actual relevant farming information. Sorry for the seemingly negative review, but it's true. Please only post useful information on this thread, it will help everyone in the community figure out more efficiently how to best farm for these mythical eggs.

The basic information below would help us all out a lot. Be as specific as possible.

What is/was your level and faction at the time you were fishing?

What zone and area were you in? If it was a VR zone can you please list which (silver or gold)?

Can you list any other physical markers or monuments you were by when you were fishing?

What type of water were you fishing in and what bait(s) did you use?

What kind of fish and how many did you filet? And how much perfect roe did you get?

Were there other people fishing from the same hole(s)?

A good reply should look something like this: "I'm VR7, Daggerfall Covenant, fishing in foul water with crawlers around Jode's Pocket in Malabal Tor (silver zone), mostly stuck to the main shoreline. There were no other people fishing around me. I caught and fileted100 sea bass and got 1 perfect roe."

I hope I get a good community response since so many people are wondering how to farm the ingredients for Psijic Ambrosia. The majority of posts I've read say the drop rate is around 1%, but the information is always so nonspecific. Did you skin 100 fish in a row and get 1 perfect roe? Did you skin 20, then four hours later skin another 80 and get 1 roe? The reason I'd like to know these things is because I would like to see how much RNG, level, area, and fish types come into play. For example, is it more likely that fishing in your top-tiered gold areas will yield you a higher percentage of perfect roe? Is the ratio affected by the type of fish caught? Or the number fileted in a row?

Anyway, if you think you can help me/us figure this out, it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't think where you get the fish has anything to do with if you get Roe. And, it would be hard to nail down for some people as one time I collected about 60 fish from various holes across the zones and fileted them and got a Perfect Roe, and one time I fileted 14 fish from a single hole and got a Perfect Roe. I don't remember where I got the third one from, as in fileting right away or waiting until later.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    Kind of illustrating my point.

But how can anyone say with any actual certainty that it's not based on the type of fish or where you get it from when this item is so new?

I'm simply looking for objective information from people willing to give it to draw some educated conclusions and not listen to more guesswork. I don't feel like wasting 200 hours in-game on something that might be easily figured out with the right information. For example, I'd love to know where that fishing hole you got 14 fish from and 1 perfect roe. A 14 to 1 ratio sounds amazing! I know you don't remember that specific time. But I'm hoping other people will chime in.

It seems highly unlikely to me that you could get end-game items from just any old fishing hole. So some level 3 character fishing in Glenumbra for an hour gets 3 roe from low-level holes and turns them around for 75k? Doubt it. I know there are outliers and random occasions where even at low levels you can get epic and legendary crafting items, but how often does that actually happen? And wouldn't you say that you're way more likely to get those higher tiered items at higher levels? I know I would.

I have seen nothing that says Roe is level dependent. Fragment Chances are, but not the Roe. I will go fishing with my L4 and now L7 Mules tonight and see. I have over a 1000 of each type of bait, so I can hit all the waters. Problem is, fishing by myself is so boring, which is probably why I only have 3 Perfect Roe found, no desire to stand by myself and do this.

I know some of the fish I pulled for the 60 stack came from Zone 1 for my character, but the character was VR ranked.

What is/was your level and faction at the time you were fishing?

    I am VR14, Aldmeri Dominion.

What zone and area were you in? If it was a VR zone can you please list which (silver or gold)?

I was in a normal zone, Auridon in Aldmeri Dominion area.

Can you list any other physical markers or monuments you were by when you were fishing?

I was just running around the coast in Auridon and if I saw a fishing hole I would fish there.

What type of water were you fishing in and what bait(s) did you use?

I fished with two friends in sea water around auridon with worms.

What kind of fish and how many did you filet? And how much perfect roe did you get?

I filet around 80 Dhufish and Longfin and got 3 perfect roe. This is/was my first fishing run. My two friends filet around the same amount of fish and they both got 0 perfect roe.

Were there other people fishing from the same hole(s)?

Yes. I fished with two friends.

I hope this is enough information.

I mean, that's really the thing here...such a mundane, boring ass thing to have to do for a top-tiered item. FML. I know video games are already a time suck, but this sh** just seems more so than anything else. I really don't want to waste any more time than I have to farming for these.

    OK...here's one for you.

My character is V8, in Ebonheart Pact. I fileted 33 fish for 1 Perfect Roe. All of these fish came from either the guild bank or stealing them from the containers near the guy by the river just outside of Belkharth. So, I had a variety of fish - 1 or 2 slaughterfish, maybe 6 river bettys, etc.

The point is - I never fished any of these. They were all obtained either from the guild bank or from stealing. I had 33 in my inventory, about 8 different varieties of fish. I think my Perfect Roe came from the 24th or so fish that I fileted.

He's not far outside of Belkharth - he's kneeling with a horse, wolf, and some kind of bird with him. It's near one of the rivers/streams.

The 33 fish I had were saved up and fileted all at one time after Psijic Ambrosia was added to the console versions. I've stolen about 6 since and fileted them on the spot, but no Perfect Roe since. So, this isn't a viable option, but it does seem to indicate that it's really just RNG, based on the act of fileting, not what type of fish or where/when it was fished.

It's all RNG. While its new to console, it's been on PC for a while.

I don't see how the information you are attempting at collecting will help.

    This, so much this.

When fishing had a purpose again I started working on my fishing achievements again. I've caught fish of all kinds, in all locations, at all levels.

It's all RNG - catch more fish, get more roe.

I have been fishing a lot lately in the attempt to finish off my to fishing achievements And get the extra dyes. Now with that said any perfect roe I happen to obtain during this is just pure bonus.

Some days I have gotten 1 outta 50, other times 1 outta 400. These all seems to be luck of the draw and doesn't seem to have a trend. With that said I have started to notice that usually I will get 1-2 every 100ish, sometime a little more other times I strike out.

Dont even know if this is worth farming anymore. I had trouble moving them for 12k each. Prices have come down so much on the potions. However, once VR16 is Live I am sure there will be a higher demand of the exp potions.

I've noticed roe prices dropping too on console. 12K seems to be about the average price right now. I think part of the reason for that is there are a lot of people fishing now to get roe for some extra gold but, there are very few people who have completed the recipe and can actually use it. Supply is high and demand is rather low. Give it a some time and as more people complete the recipe I think the price will go back up.

as for the OP, I'm pretty sure it is well established that the odds of getting roe and all RNG. type of fish and location have no barring on your chances of getting it

Appears so...FML. Tried fishing in all kinds of places with all types of bait, still no Roe. Over 200 fish caught. Nothing.
