Will there ever be a MUTE FEATURE?

I get harassed in Area Chat at least once an hour by 1-2 boys/men a day. It is tiring to be called a [snip], [snip], [snip], etc and to be screamed at by out of control boys. I am tired of it. While I mainly use Guild Chat, I do like to make new friends, and I like to try and sell the few things I have or buy a few recipes... So, will there ever be a MUTE FEATURE because I desperately want one and can't continue to be distressed like this.

PS. I can handle a good joke, while the get in the kitchen jokes are super hilarious, and other sexist jokes make me laugh until I have tears running down my face, you can only handle soo much verbal abuse.

Bump. Not to mention there are also people who play music through their mice or people who find pleasure in flooding the chat with absurd comments. Bump x100

I immediately remove myself from Area chat as soon as I log in because of the background music, and other chatter that I just don't want to hear.

I would be great to be able to mute individuals.

There is nothing worse than some twelve year old who thinks we all want to listen to his stupid remixes or tracks he thinks he can actually sing along with. Also tired of the random shouters and stupid noise makers and background tv so yes please give us a mute button.

As per Sony, you can only block 30 individuals. And the blocked people aren't in any order, so you can accidentally unlock someone you just blocked. Also, I've blocked someone in game then the very next day, I saw them in the Rift and I could hear them and they could hear me...

BUMP!!! I agree COMPLETELY. A MUTE option should have been available @ Launch. It gets annoying when they have no regard for ANYONE but themselves. And don't you just love the ones who have their mic volume @ MAX & procede to shout obceneties.

    PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR PLAYERS!!!

WTB mute option and an option to set which channel to join as a default. There are SO many people with terrible mics and too much background noise.
It's better to be hated for who you are than to be loved for who you are not.

Juliette, that is horrible. What a bunch of losers. Who does that sort of thing?

Totally agree, there should be a Mute Player option. Sadly, I often end up just leaving Area Chat because of all the noise and other obnoxiousness that goes on (but nothing like what you've experienced). I would rather stay in it and meet new friends but the negatives far outweigh any perceived benefits. For me the worst is really just shouters standing right in front of guild traders trying to sell their own stuff. Seriously, join a guild and use a trader.... A "Cone of Silence" around the Traders would be welcomed as well.

ZOS, please fix this soon, what should be a positive social feature of the game has become an awkward and unusable antisocial feature.

There is a mute button. Navigate to Area chat in your Options menu, highlight the name of the person you want to mute, and hit X. It will bring up an expanded menu of options for that player, including the options to invite them to a party or guild, view their profile, send a friend request, and mute their mic.

I don't get why this was removed, I'll probably be banned now, but I do not appreciate this at all. I'm actually tired of it. They wont answer me.

You're asking them to implement a feature that is already in the game. I know the button says "Block," but it's a mute button. That's all it does.

In addition to that, they told you how to report individual people for griefing, giving you yet another step you can take after muting people through the mute function that is totally already in the game.

What else do you want them to do, exactly?

Edit: again, to mute a player, it's options -> triangle -> triangle -> scroll to offending player -> X -> scroll down to Block -> X

You can only block 30 users on PS4. I have maxed that due to all the children and wanna be adults on ESO. It's sad. So, now I can no longer block any more guys and can no longer mute because you can ONLY block. Like I have been saying. This guy whats to argue just to argue...

Fair enough on that issue. I managed to circumvent it, but since I keep getting kicked off the game and can't log back in right now, I'm unable to figure out how. That said, I also utilized the block button without ever running into that issue in the first place, so... -shrug- I'll try to find a workaround and update.

I will try to look around whenever I can get back in too. I usually just end up turning area chat off all the time anyway, and my biggest irritation is that it always defaults to ON whenever logging in or sometimes just using a wayshrine.

My personal opinion, from console day 1, is that that feature should be defaulted to OPT IN, not OPT OUT. I did not see any privacy warnings in the EULA that they were going to automatically put a live microphone in everyone's home. I actually overheard some very questionable conversations in those first few days....

It's workable to just turn it off, but annoying, and it really shouldn't be that way.

Agreed. Also, you should be able to select default channels to log into.

But what I'm trying to figure out is why this seems to be working differently for me than for Juliette. I have three people muted in-game. As a test, I muted someone else before logging off, and they're still muted. None of those 4 people are on my Block list, but I saw one of them earlier today and the other got muted just a few minutes ago. So..it's working fine.

Except that they aren't on my ignore list.

I have the sneaking suspicion that my handy fix might actually be a bug. Not sure whether it's with the game or my console, either.

Hum. So somehow I've managed to accidentally turn a semi-functional mute button into a fully-functional (and non-reversible) mute button. And I don't know how. Which is actually a bit unfortunate, since one of those people was a complete stranger who I never actually heard say a thing. >_>

I guess the best option at this point is just to forward the request to the correct area of the forums. Maybe it'll get implemented in the next patch. It's not like it's the only major feature missing from the game.

When I want to mute some annoying *** I block them and this helps. Although there are some people I block in guild chat because their mics are messed up and make annoying sounds. The block only lasts for maybe a day and I can hear them again. So blocking for some reason does not work for me when trying to mute guild members.

Same here, I block and maybe for less than a day I can still hear them, but they're still blocked through SONY...

Man, that's so annoyingly weird. -.- It's the exact opposite for me. They stay muted in ESO, but NOT blocked through Sony.

I thought that was intentional. Guess I'm due for a flood of suddenly-unmuted high-pitched troll voices soon.

Interestingly, I re-read the TOS (courtesy of @Leandor ) and the obnoxious behavior is definitely a violation. Taking the time to report the loud music players, mouth breathers, barking dogs, touting their own wares very obnoxiously, etc. may be worth the trouble. In Juliettes case, most definitely worth the time to report. When the ban hammers come out, the casual a**hats usually stop.

Might be a long wait, though, and does nothing to resolve the issue in the immediate sense. While you are correct, I'd still like to see a proper mute function implemented, as opposed to an accidental one.

Yes, and I can see where coding in individual blacklist/whitelist for every account is definitely a scope breaker. It may be a very long wait indeed. Turning off area chat and reporting is the only workaround for now. Rinse and repeat when it turns itself back on...

I'm most annoyed at the lack of this feature's implementation because it's yet another feature present on the PC that isn't on consoles. I understand time constraints, but they pushed the game back more than half a year before it launched on consoles, so I wish more of the MMO basics had made it into the "final" product.

I just hope they get it all caught up sooner than later.
