Rebuilding VR14, Gimme A Hand

Hey guys. I've been playing ESO a long time. But I've only played with two builds, and one shouldn't count. I want to rebuild my character and play in a different way than I have been, but I've ended up clueless and confused. So I could use some help if you could suggest builds and explain using them like I'm five.

First all the info about what I've been playing as and have felt comfortable with.

Nord DK, 2H sword, DPS with werewolf for the stamina boost. 5 medium, 2 heavy. 5 Hunding's Rage and 3 Ashen Grip, with 3 pieces of Footman on jewelry.. I use(d) skills like Critical Rush, Carve, Executioner, Rally, Green Dragon Blood, and either Take Flight or Standard of Might. My secondary was a bow I only ever used in some vet dungeons where you need a ranged weapon or magic, so I won't go into that weapon at all.

My stats, I don't have the numbers in front of me, but they were mostly stamina with some health. Too much health, to be honest, but I never bothered redoing the attributes recently. Any CP was focused on weapon damage and a few bits of resistance to several things I was low on like spell resist, etc.

Now here's the fun part. The explain like I'm five part. The this is what I want to play part.

I want to use a heavy helmet. I know this seems like a dumb, irrelevant thing to say but it's not. All medium helmets look stupid. It's true. But I needed the numbers for using heavy on chest and legs, and (obviously) needed the rest medium. So I had to hide my helmet and expose my head. And that made me a sad panda.

I have never used sword and board. I know I know. Everyone on the entire internet says use that or dual wield. Well to you I say nay! Or rather, I have. Now's the time to use it, methinks.

So if I've changed weapons, perhaps I should change roles. I've never played a tank in any MMO ever. Just DPS. Hit things with sharp objects, kill them until they die from it. The best defense is a strong offense, right? If they're dead quickly they can't hurt you. Well, I play a lot of solo pve, and I've had difficulty with, you know, living. I beat all the alliances, etc. But I can't solo dungeons or Crag quests (first person to say those are group activities gets their eyeballs punched.)

So. Nord DK. Sword/Shield. Looking to be a tank and/or tanky DPS for solo end game pve. Prefer heavy armor for aesthetic reasons, some pieces negotiable. Don't mind using a little magic and having to use light armor too, but I don't want to be a magic build (fire destro staff I'm looking at you.)

Is anyone patient enough to walk me through not only making a build, but using it?

Heavy or light helmet, to clarify. Just not medium. I apparently can't edit my post, at least on mobile.

There actually are some builds on this forum: http://tamrielfoundry.com/forum/classes/dragonknight-class/ which explain really detailed about the build you might want to use. And since they have experience with their builds I suppose it might be more clear to see what they do than do it here.

You don't like the bosmer medium helmet?

For me it is the best one.
Sarcasm is something too serious to be taken lightly

I was born with the wrong sign
    In the wrong house
    With the wrong ascendancy
    I took the wrong road
That led to the wrong tendencies
I was in the wrong place at the wrong time
For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme
On the wrong day of the wrong week
Used the wrong method with the wrong technique

Fair enough, but I honestly stopped checking those forums. It seems more often than not posters are scolded because a similar question was asked on page 67 of a thread from 2013. Hyperbolically speaking, of course.

At the very least I'd appreciate if anyone can give me some applicable advice on how to make my current build more survivable for solo pve endgame content. Everyone seems to be content regurgitating that it's for groups when I see plenty of people soloing. I just need to adjust things. Gear sets? Enchantments? Food vs drink? Heavy vs Medium vs Light, etc.

Not really. They all look bizarre. Even the Dwemer medium helmet just makes your head look like a ***. :pensive:

Edit. Hmm. Censored. OK, I meant "weeeeeenurrrrr"
