So for this set I want to learn to create, I have 1 robe and 1 jerkin left to research. I've undergone one of them but I completely forgot which one it was. Considering it's going to take 20 hours and I only have 1 more research available I don't want to pick the wrong one to research..
It shows what trait it's researching, but is there a way to tell what item is being researched?

    Go to the crafting station, go to the research bits and start flipping through - you should see the one you are actively researching listed as "researching" (as opposed to blank or available or unavailable).
    Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
    Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
    Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
    Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

    Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
    House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
    Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

    I tried that.. but it just shows the trait, not the actual item - unless I'm missing something

    When you started the research, the item was consumed. Look your inventory what is left.

    You said you are researching to try and make a set are you trying to research a named set such as Ashens grip etc. If you are their is no need to , all you need to research is the traits on the item . You only need to have the amount of traits necessary to make any set . You can make sets that you have never even possessed before . Another tip is to try and research only white items as they get destroyed anyway , break down or sell any other colour including the named set items .

    In the creation tab, it says I needed to research traits from 3 robes and 1 jerkin. Now it's 1 robe and 1 jerkin.. the problem is I'm not sure which one I'm currently researching. So that leads me to believe the type of item does matter somewhat?

    That crossed my mind, but when your inventory is full of robes and jerkins that doesn't exactly make matters easy. The lack of of a photographic memory makes it even harder

    Ah I think I know what you mean , it says you have 3 robes that are researchable . If you look at the traits you need then look at the item you will see which item needs to be researched . You can go through the motions of researching it and it will show you which item will be destroyed then simply cancel the research , no harm done .

    Yes, sorry if I was being confusing.. it's hard to make sense when you don't know wtf is going on :D
    I fear it's a little too late to cancel as 1 item is already being researched - it's this one I have no idea about. I can't remember what it was, and there seems to be no way to find out what you're currently researching

    I wouldn't worry too much about it you should aim to get all traits anyway but remember not to research valuable (purple,blue etc.) and keep those research slots busy if you do find yourself with empty slots try asking a friend or guild member to send you the relevant gear (in white and lowest material ) and fill that slot.

    Get the rearch grid addon on at esoui. I shows you what you have as well as what you are researching for each weapon.

    TBH Craftstore is better. It was everyone's favourite and then it got removed by the creator for about 5 months where everyone had to switch to Research Grid. Fortunately, Craftstore has been put back up for use and upgraded to the current game.

    They are the same. Just a cosmetic difference.

    I have that addon and it's fantastic. I mainly like the way it shows you what you have left to make on crafting writs when at a station

    Thanks for clearing it up.. I guess what it says makes sense to a degree, but if you're really new it can be kind of confusing. If it said something like "3 robes (including jerkins) " I might have known. Anyway, thanks to everyone for your insight. Highly appreciated!
