Able to upgrade item levels?

Say you miss your level 25 unique sword that you've picked up from a World Boss or a quest at level 25, and now you're VR3. How about being able to upgrade that sword's level and stats to VR3?

Are there items with unique appearances? Because everything I've gotten thus far are just normal weapons with a unique name and regular traits and enchants applied to them.

Fight world bosses and dungeon bosses. You pick unique blue items from them, and it says they're unique as well in its description.

Yes, but within certain limitations. As in, no upgrading beyond the scope of its starting material - I wouldn't want to see an V12 iron sword...

And it ought to be really costly... take a lot of material, tempers, style materials, maybe even some special stuff... and of course have a destruction-on-fail chance of success just like temper improvements, a chance that can be raised by using even more materials...

Alternately, there could be a whole crown-store component to this. But the upgrade pack for crowns, use it to raise your item level/VR by 1. That way it wouldn't make sense for most things, but would greatly help those who finally got a really good set together at V12, and want to keep using it...

Id love to get some customizable weapons. They could make it so it works for new players too, so that would make journey experience better. Also Dolmens would drop pieces to make these weapons for low levels so thats one reason to do them, maybe world bosses has a small chance for a drop and public group dungeon bosses. They could add own story line for it.

Also customizable weapons would add tons tons of endgame content too. You need to gather all kind of stuff to make them the best possible, one kind of endgame gear-grind. Customizable weapons needs to become ESO's feature, not some endgame thing.

No, you shouldn't be able to upgrade the item.

What they should do is give you a chance (based on your skill in the relevant profession) to learn how to make one. As with any trait learning, the item is destroyed in the process, succeed or fail.

This solves the material problem: you can't upgrade that iron item past it's normal levels, but you can make a steel one, then a dwarven one, etc, right up to VR16. It also makes you treat this object with the care such a unique item deserves -- you won't want to mess with it until you're fairly certain you'll be able to learn it.

As a unique item, you can only craft one at a time, and it's character-bound so you can't sell, trade, or shift it to other toons.

This solves the rarity problem: You can't dual-wield two of a "unique" dagger, you can't flood the market with these "unique" items, you can't twink out your low-level toons with this stuff.

The level goes up by 2, the VR goes up by 1... I'm honestly not sure if upgrading a Level 49 item gets the two level bonus or not.

The Daedric Crescent? I think that's supposed to be one of a kind, in setting. I think Morrowind classified it as a minor artifact, anyway.

I agree, sometimes you find such an awesome looking weapon that you'd love to keep it, but there is no way you can because it cannot be leveled with you. That is the ONE thing I loved about DCUO, was how their armor and weapon styles were just that, styles, and once you equipped the item, you permanently had access to that style. So no matter what item you wore or weapon you used, you could always apply any of those previous styles to your new gear. It was akin to costumes here in ESO, but think 'per piece' not an entire costume- perhaps ESO will one day also create a weapon 'costume' or 'skin' so that we can have unique weapon styles that we would happily buy from the Crown Store. Great idea

I've gotten maybe one or two of those, but they had the appearance of regularly crafted items, despite the fact that they were "unique" and had item lore attached to it.

Have you been dipping into the Skooma, son?

I'm kind of torn on this issue, i've got a full Silks of the Sun set and full Warlock set between the levels 19-25 and with this I could (even if it would be expensive... possibly more expensive than buying a set at V12/14) upgrade them to Vet levels, this would be useful, but would also eliminate some reason to grind end level dungeons.

VR12 Martial Knowledge piece costs 250 gold on average.
VR14 Martial Knowledge piece costs 40000 gold on average.

You want to solve this? With idea, you could.
Would this make market more balanced and crafting more remunerative? Yes.

What about you need to dismantle a level 40 item if you want to level a 26 item to level 40?

I've been hoping for this for a long long time. So many low level sets have unique looks and effects, soooo many more builds would be possible if they could be scaled up to v14. It will probably be a while before they'd implement it since they'd probably have to rebalance the low level sets... But I'm still hopeful!
