Templar with Medium armor?

Swanne
Swanne
So I've got a VR1 Imperial Templar that I main with, and I haven't been exactly happy with the Heavy armor I've been using lately. In addition, after looking a little deeper into things, I found I didn't care much for the passives for heavy armor either. Because of this, I looked more into the Medium armor skills and passives and found it much more appealing. My main question is, will it be possible for me to have a 5M/2L Templar that can at least do decent in both PvP and PvE? I'd also prefer to stick with 1H/Shield as my main weapon, a lot of people have been telling me to switch to either 2H or DW, neither of which I'm a real fan of. If I had to, I'd switch to 2H though. Oh, and Bow is my backup weapon.

Thanks in advance!

Med armor scales the best with stam for dps so I would run 5 med 2 heavy or 6 med 1 heavy and unfortunately the heal from 2 hander rally and the wep damage buff are really good if I was you I'd go 2 hander sword and board or 2 hander bow or 2 hander dw but if your running a magika build then med armor isn't gonna help you much at all go 5 light 2 heavy and destro resto or s/b resto or double sb bars

Thanks! I've considered running a Magika build, but I feel like I'm leaning more towards a Stamina build since I'm focusing more on weapon damage, although I'd still like to heal and dish out some damage with the Aedric Spear and Dawn's Wrath abilities. I now wonder if I could possibly do a Magika build with Heavy armor involved...but I digress. At any rate thanks for the advice, starting to wonder if I should've opted for another class.

Stamina templars do the highest AoE DPS in the game right now, and for fights that last longer than 40 seconds, they also do the highest single target DPS, I would definitely recommend you give the stamina templar a try, just spam the biting jabs skill and watch anything melt.

I run a heavy armor magika build it is nice for the added defense bonus. I especially like having the health bonuses for heavy armor due to being able to put all my attributes into magika instead of splitting between hp and magika.

Don't worry, you picked the right class! Templars are hard to perfect because there are SO MANY OPTIONS! Magicka is an extremely hard to build to get right in PvP. I've only met one or two that put up a fight.

I run a V14 Stamina Templar in PvP with 5Med/2Heavy. Stamina templars can heal and sustain when you use Rally (2 hander skill), Repentence, purifying ritual, channeling aura, defensive stance, and blazing shield. Breath of Life is okay if you're having survivability issues, but it is a huge mana drain. Damage is all about the BITING JABS. Holy hell! You'll watch people melt before you. I am vampire for mist form and clouding bat swarm for evasion b/c Templars are weak in the escape skills and it works perfectly for a melee build.

Attributes: 10-15 in Stam and rest in Health.

If you really like the bow, drop the 1H/S and use 2H. You need the dmg output from 2H rally buff and Wrecking blow/executioner.

Thanks so much for the info, it really helps! And you give pretty compelling arguments to make me opt for a Stamina build, which I just may do; albeit my role may be more tanky, along the lines of a 5H/2M set, possibly. At any rate I think I'll also see if I can make 1H/Shield work, although I understand for maximum effectiveness in PvP I will probably have to opt for the 2H as you said. Really appreciate the info, again thanks!

Heavy armor builds with 1H/S and bow is viable but don't expect to win a lot of 1v1s. However, your role as support and "hit me I'm a templar!" is REALLY good with a DPS partner. You will see huge benefits running with another buddy or two in PvP.

I found that health regen armor passives is a little redundant for stamina templars. Especially if you slot restoring light (repentence, purify, etc) skills. Stamina bonus from medium armor will help your blocking capabilities, rolling evade, and ,stamina heals, and your DPS. I tank with 5M/2H very well.

I love 1H/S. Shield blocking and defensive stance are fantastic and work well on my support bar. I find that I can repsec for PvE very easily. Bows give you a little flexibility but take away your melee PvP DPS significantly. Most bow users use 2H on the other bar.

So basically you're saying in regards to a stamina build, I could basically go with a 5H/2M or 5M/2H set of armor. In addition, if I were to maintain my 1H/Shield as my primary I would mainly be a support character, while using 2H would be much more effective for DPS? Sorry for being a little redundant, just trying to clarify a little. And all the info you've given me has really helped, much appreciated.
