Sorc Build Comparison

DarthSeverus394
Im a vet healer and decided to roll a dps role to change it up. I made an altmer sorc. Ive seen the basic nuker build. Hardened ward healing ward pop em up use crystal frags velicious curse meteor then bolt out. I also know there are pet builds though and am interested. Are they defensive builds? Less efficient dps? Support? Need an experienced sorc to kinda give me the rundown and maybe even a quick walk through the use of the build. I find myself pvping mostly these days but aspire to run trials and dungeons once I find people who actually do those.

Pets aren't really useful in pvp.

There are many perks that boost pets, I had thought about it. Instead Hardened ward with the other morph, along with the creas morphs and... i think there is another morph that in total can increase their damage by what im guessing atm all together is 100% also you can make clannofear move faster and monarch deal more damage.

The spheres can also protect them.

I myself can see how with combined spells it can be effective

I've developed an excellent pet build with a focus on PvE. You can find the link to the build in my signature.

There's a cool synergy you can use if you want to use pets. Both morphs of your first familiar have "on un summon/death" effects. The clannfear heals you for 35% of your max hp and the unstable familiar explodes, does damage= to A % of your mp, and stuns enemies for 2 seconds.

Since they have a brief cast time, you can use a set like Cyrodiils light (25% reduced damage received while channeling a spell). I've toyed with the idea of a sorcy build using as many channeled skills as you can while summoning, unsummoning, and resummoning.

You get a large chunk of mp back when a summon dies thanks to passives, and you can use channeled skills no one uses like crystal blast! Also, who can kill a guy taking 25% reduced damage getting healed for 35% hp every 2 seconds?! I haven't hammered out any details but it's a cool synergy, and using summons to heal yourself/kamikaze on people is a cool option.

Check the sorcerer changes coming in the patch at the end of the month. You can just do standard summon damage a lot easier soon. One of the daedric curse morphs makes your summons do an extra 55% damage so you don't have to slot 2 separate skills to boost summon damage anymore.

I can't help but feel that pets are uber good for PvE with the above post.

In PvP I can see the damage boosts but not so much channeling or other abilities that would be best when the creas are being aggroed. In PvP players always focus on the other player.

I couldn't pass up Hardened Ward for that very reason. PvE being that uber seemed unnecessary compared to my need of hardened for PvP.

If I was pure PvE i would have loaded on the crea buffs.

In PvP I plan on abandoning monarch for bolt escape. Crystal shard, lightning form, Hardened ward, Clannofear, Monarch, and Stormy is my bar line.

As im defense I can only really reasonably get rid of monarch, she is the offensive summon doing way more damage than clannofear (but 35% heal is freakin huge)

I can see summoned crea heavy main bar, second being more spell heavy?

Yeah the passives that boost when a crea leaves are awesome and would be synergistic with switchin to the back up

I like the versatility of % returns. You can stack mp to do extra damage with your unstable familiar, or stack hp so that 35% heal is bigger. Plus, champion points to heals received will boost the heal even more! Not sure about heals initiated.

In pvp, the kamikaze explodey pet is very nice. No one dare target it, but you can send it after whoever you want with the command pet button. Explode, stun, re summon. Same goes for the clannfear: health gets low, just un summon, maybe pop a ward, and re summon. You can work it in with tons of builds and strategies, even stamina!

And i had to cut that short cause my boss swungby lol.

Would you think resto staff back up with bolt escape, healing ward, clannofear (another heal an offense?), lightning form, Hardened ward, and an ultimate like immovable?

Though I do notice lightning form and immovable don't have synergy, both being major they would cancel each other, and both have about equal resistance.

I hear that the mage guild ultimate is pretty good, I have yet to get it but that could be an ultimate

Hey is that command PC only or is it in xbox too?

Yeah I agree Im a tank Sorc using clannofear as my heal (starting to buff health to increase this perk) its: lightning form, ward, crystal shard, heavy attack, light attack, then whatever the situation calls for. The hardened ward and clannofear is a great combo.

Unfortunately I have only learned recently that resto staff can heal yourself so Im going to see if you can switch to back up, unsommon cuz of it (using passive for magicka and health) cast straight into heal or bolt then switch back to re summon effectively

Pet command is on pc; you hold a button in and light attack to send your pet towards a target. It might not be available on console yet, I'm not sure.

Resto on the second bar is always a good choice. A long duration regeneration or mutagen, plus the restoration staff siphon, can let you cast and switch back to your main bar quickly while still getting the heal benefits.

Dang... with shields, 35% heal on command, HoTs, AND the resto staff siphon on a target... That's pretty dang tanky!

Also, surge! It will have 30 second duration next patch, +20% weapon and/or spell power, and heals on crits. That's another source of damage AND healing you can have on your main or off bar.

See i look at surge, and I think its the offensive version of lightning form.

Both are majors so you can't stack them. Its a heavy offense with a heal, Im thinkin I would rather lightning form (I morphed it to both armor and spell resistance) than surge or the resto staff abilities.

I think its a staple for the offensive builds out there.

I just can't seem to like the bound armor, its boost for resistance is just too low for me

Surge gives major offense buffs. The way major and minor buffs stack is you can't have major of the exact same buff, as in two major brutality. You CAN have major brutality and major defensive buffs. So you don't have to choose between lightning form or surge, they can totally stack so you have major weapon attack, spell attack, spell defense, and physical defense.

If you'd rather choose one or the other, it's extra defense + an AOE dot, OR extra attack power plus heals from crits. If you're going to stack heals received/given, then I think surge would be way better than the extra defense.
