Glad that you've joined the forums and welcome!
Aside from your opinions on the poll, what thoughts do you have about the ongoing discussion?
I love voice chat, and it was a great decision on their part to add it because this game just feels much different than any other MMO I've played. However I do understand why some people feel the game needs text chat and I agree it would make grouping, trading and recruiting much easier. I believe it has to be 100% optional and should only be zone chat, lets compromise and have a zone chat with a trade channel. The game feels alittle flat in its current state. Id like to be able to link items in a chat window for selling or trading purposes. I will admit it wouldnt break the game if the feature isnt added, but it feels empty. The real issue I have is my guild tags not showing below my GT! grr (Different topic)
I will say though, I wasnt too keen on voice chat when I started the game because I suffer from anxiety and wearing a headset for too long bothers me(not for social reasons) but once I got over it and started PvPing in Cyrodil, I gave it a shot and I have to say its great and I love it as I stated above and I wouldnt touch text chat while im in Cyrodil, voice chat is a MUST for Cyrodil IMO.
Just a few weeks ago, I was grouped up on our way to attack a keep, a long ride mind you, and my horse is pretty darn slow so ofcourse I was falling behind while the others zoomed past me. A group of Daggers were waiting to gank me, about 3 or 4 of them. I quickly yell out in voice "Im being attacked, come help" and the group quickly turned around and charged in to save me. Had I wasted 10 seconds to type out "Hey Im being attacked, behind you guys help" while im standing there getting whacked by these 4 players, I would have been dead by the time they reacted to my cry (If they even had text window opened to read it) and had a long lonely ride back to the keep we were attacking. Instead I was able to call for help while popping potions and CCing this group just long enough for help to arrive. Those 10 seconds made all the difference.
I love voice chat, but Im 100% for text chat as an option, because this is an awesome game and why not have the best of both worlds. Text chat wouldnt/cant replace voice chat, but it adds to the game and hopefully we get some closure on this issue with a definitive answer, because at the very least, the people in support of the feature deserve that. They can then decide to move on or accept whichever stance ZOS ultimately takes.
Sorry to butt in here, but you people do realize that not everyone does PvP. I'm sure voice is awesome for PvP and Destiny and Call of Duty, but there are many of us that PvE and role play in mmorpgs. No one is trying to take away your voice chat at all. I really don't understand this all or nothing mentality, and the expectation that everyone must be forced to either listen to you on voice or spend the game in social isolation.
No problem to jump in....but don't confuse these comments and questions to their post with the topic at hand.
Its not an all or nothing, and actually its a O K..if text chat is needed can we look at doing it like this...thus my idea as a compromise.
Now in regards to my comments to the post above...they are new to the forums and I am personally interested in their point of view.
Honestly your compromise is not needed. The way text chat is on the PC version is perfect. It doesn't clutter the ai, it is able to be minimized and off screen. You are able to pm,ignore, reply, etc to people. It does the job a text chat is expected to do.
I here your compromise and I respectfully state that it is not needed because the text chat has built in features that remedy your conerns.
OK then what other ideas do you have.
Officially speaking ZOS has already declined what exists on PC for console.

I already stated my ideas. And Zenimax never officially stated any of the sort.
Pc text chat is perfect for consoles. There is no need for a round about, the PC text chat solves just about everyone's issues and that is what we should request. It is the thing that will satisfy most of the community.
Actually folks, ZOS did say something to the effect of; "We are looking into adding some form of text based chatting. But, it will most likely not be in the form of a chatbaox.".
And, I am for the simple, reliable, easy to use, and OPTIONAL Textbox....just relaying what I saw ZOS say.

Im all for text chat as an option but I think chat bubbles are the solution for the role players
I'd like to hear the logical argument against what I have mentioned multiple times.
I like and prefer to play the game , hearing the sounds and music that the developers spent lots of money and time on , and experience the world WITHOUT hearing shouts of babies , dogs barking , people making rude noises , or actually any sounds at all other than what the game has.
I am not alone in this. Many people play with headphones to hear just the game , and still enjoy communicating with many other people in the text chat.
Every console and PC mmorpg released so far has allowed me to enjoy the sound direction the developers chose to put in game , without being FORCED to hear others talking , and still allowed me to communicate with and make lots of in game friends.
What's the anti-text argument against this , rather logical , and normal expectation ?
I still see NO ONE on the anti-text chat team trying to logically explain how this ^^^^^^ is a bad reason to want and expect text chat.

ZOS has already responded so let's talk about things they haven't responded to that may help you get what you want.
Make sense?
What ideas do you have?
It is not a discussion when you guys aggressively dismiss and deny anything anyone does contribute to the conversation. This thread is completely toxic to anyone who doesn't share your viewpoints. If your threads about text-chat keep getting locked, perhaps consider your behavior before blaming others.
This is how you guys are coming across... lol.
We get it. You don't like voice chat and would prefer text chat like they have on PC, but ESO has sold almost two million copies on consoles so forgive me if your 400 poll contributors doesn't represent (to me) a valid sampling of ESO players. People passionate about it are obviously going to jump in and contribute, but the average player (ie he never goes to the forums) doesn't care.
This will be my last post in this thread, like many others you guys have caused me to throw up my hands and just move on because you want what you want, and us all going around in this circle is just a huge waste of time.
I like voice chat; I would be furious if they removed it in favor of text chat only. The thing is, no one is asking for this. I can't seem to get the point across that between people who don't have mics and people who turn off voice then join dungeon/Craglorn/PvP queues, end game content is nearly impossible. I'm still convinced that most of the anti crowd aren't there yet and that those who are either aren't participating in the group only stuff or have an unusually large network of guildies.
I've discussed compromises and been excoriated for it by those on my side of this debate; there are hard-liners on both sides. That discussion was very informative though, as I suspected it might be. I engaged because I needed to see how much rancor would still be present on the anti side once all HUD cluttering concerns were eliminated. Now I know...

My idea is they have to admit they made a mistake and implement normal text chat that every other major console mmorpg has. And I've seen you and others say text chat isn't needed. I gave my example of why it is. I'd like to see someone explain how wanting to hear the game as it is , and still communicate , isn't the "console" way.
I say it is the console way. The PC way. The normal way.

They most likely were not going to get rid of the sub option at launch , nor most likely say they will remove VR levels. They most likely were going to have territory control in IC.

Seems like it's a reasonable statement and request to me also. I notice you don't try and explain why you are against how he/she wants to play.
Listening to the game and not hearing idiots in area chat. Still being able to communicate.
What's not normal or serious about that ?
Probably can't make up some silly thing to argue the point so you continue to duck it.

What you two are asking for is not up for discussion.
It's not reasonable to ask me why something you desire that ZOS has already addressed won't be in the game.
My personal answer is: Because ZOS made the game, it's what they've decided on so deal with it or play another game.
But to be cordial and open minded my response is...what other ideas do you have that have not been addressed?
The goal is to keep the discussion going towards realistic options.
What you two are commenting is no longer realistic since April 2015

Lol what they asked is totally realistic because the PC version of the same exact game has the capability to do what he mentioned... stop with these elusive statements and answer the man's question
Please go watch ESO Live (use my signature) and then come back to contribute positively to this discussion.
Those who do want this added would appreciate positive and realistic input.
Respectfully, Otherwise please move on
Thanks
I have and they never stated they will not add text chat to consoles.
So now stop trying to derail the topic, and answer the man's question that you have been avoiding. Or simply cease detracting from this thread.
I respectfully ask this of you.

My idea is they have to admit they made a mistake and implement normal text chat that every other major console mmorpg has. And I've seen you and others say text chat isn't needed. I gave my example of why it is. I'd like to see someone explain how wanting to hear the game as it is , and still communicate , isn't the "console" way.
I say it is the console way. The PC way. The normal way.
Are you being serious right now?
To be serious...after watching the two episodes mentioned in my signature, you didn't hear them say that text chat will not be added like seen on PC? You didn't hear them talk about many adding other radial chat options but say no to a text chat box?
Nope did hear it once. Now stop detracting and answer the man's question.
@NewBlacksmurf
I was reading discussions from the old thread that'd been closed and I must say that I'm glad that you came out with a compromise, even though that's not what some wants. It means that you admit that some of us need that option to enjoy the game as you enjoy it right now with voice chat and that is really nice to me.
I was disappointed that some anti-text players sounded like they don't want others to be able to communicate the way they need or like, it is really selfish and rude sometimes. I'd love to talk to others in game but I just can't use voice chat, I can't speak with someone I never met (Same thing when I need to call for work -_- ), but I have no problem when it comes to text chat (Or send mails for work xD), that's what I like in MMO's because I can talk to others normally and I don't have to experience any stress about it...
An optional device is still not the same thing as something everyone had... text chat on consoles is always awful. It's an abbreviated mess and an affront to the English language. If every PS4 shipped with a keyboard, cool, but since that will never be the case we'd still have the majority using the controller to chat... and that would be ugly as sin.
Text chat is for PC games. Voice chat is for consoles.
How...as adding it like it is on PC has been declined by ZOS and from what I'm reading my suggestions are not reasonable. Then please get back on topic.
And stop making all these comments to bump a topic or bait others who don't agree with you
Please come with ideas

Make sense?
Pros to having text chat on console.
Easier grouping for PvP aND pve
Guild recruitment, and communication with all guild members would be much easier because you won't have to be in the same voice channel to communicate with them, you just send some text and your whole guild can see it.
Selling/buying items will be much easier and far less anoying.
No one will be excluded from communication with the eacjother, the deaf and hard of hearing will now be able to effectively communicate.
All around socializing will be easier, more diverse and n will bring the whole eso console community together as a whole.
Tamriel will no longer feel like a huge lonely single player game.
The community grows
Cons to having text chat
Possible trolls,
Ocassional arguments.
Spam, and minimal ui clutter.
The pros heavily outweigh the cons in this situation.
