Am I the one one who actually seems to like the proximity chat ??

I've played a handful of other mmo's before and hate all the typing. Hate the shuffling back and forth.

I'll admit that most of what I hear can be boiled down to -- burps, farts, gangstas rapping ect...

But I've talked to some good people. Ran some good dungeons. I'd much rather have it this way.

Just putting a point in the Proximity chat skill :)

Proximity chat is cool I like it. Text chat is just another very useful way to get more stuff done.

Me, I'm only after text 'cause I'm hard of hearing and all the background noise makes it tough for me to hear anything in proximity chat. It's not so bad in the guilds though.

I like it. But it really doesnt get the job done for a lot of interactions.

Very difficult to communicate across a zone to find a party or organise PvP strategies. Even guild chat is rough with too many voices at the same time.

Voice chat is great, but we still need text to fill in those places where it jyst isnt useful imo.

If I'm at the undaunted outpost and a potential PUG member is at the smithy, how does prox chat help me LFG?

I like chat. I ALWAYS have my headset on. I reply when addressed. I use group chat when grouped. I still need text chat on consoles for basic mmo functions like trade and LFG mainly because others don't use the features as intended. Options are great.

I don't think people have strong objections to proximity chat as such. It's one channel of communication that can be really useful and fun. The problem is that it 's a situational tool - it doesn't work well in all circumstances and for all players. That's why I think it was a very strange decision to have it be the only chat mechanism in the console game.

I can only play when others have gone to bed in my house on most days, so I can't use voice without disturbing the people I live with. At this point, I only have one way communication with others so pretty pointless to have it on at all. Something does need to be done about the open mics though. Push to talk or something.

I always leave the proximity channel on when I am playing. There is the background noise of people doing stuff, dogs, birds, kids, significant other, insignificant others, whatever. Mixed in with that is the "does anyone know ..." conversations that is the reason I am listening.

I think that the market place voice chat is awesome. I have spent time just listening to people selling stuff in Riften because it just sounds like a market place when things are really going.

The one advantage to text chat is the ability to link items so people can see what you are selling. I have to think that they can do something to marry voice chat and the hovering chat bubbles that could fill the same purpose without having this huge chat window open in the corner of my screen. (ZOS thinks everyone is blind or plays the game from across the street, so all the words are huge. )

i'd be ok if they removed proximity chat but left group and guild. proximity chat i've run into has been pretty much just yelling to other people in their house bad singing and coughing fits with people screaming into their mic telling others to mute their mic. whats worse is everytime i zone or relog i end up back in this chat and first thing i hear is one of the above listed. i've resorted to putting myself in an empty party and prioritizing party chat to basically mute all in game voice chat.

make d-pad right push to talk since cycling quests is kind of redundant? everyone i know chooses next quest off map anyway...

Since you can be in your guild chat and still listen to area chat that is usually what I do.
With guild chat I can talk to a guildie in Craglorn from Cyrodill, and since the guild can see me in the guild chat list
I get invites and travel to player.
I guess what I am trying to say is voice chat is most useful when already grouped or in guild chat.

Regular text zone chat is just that, you can see text in the zone you are in.
Better than proximity voice chat because it is at least zone wide, but still limited to that zone.

I like hearing people chatting as I'm running around, it reminds me of walking though a busy plaza and hearing random snipits of peoples' convos.

I don't mind it, and sorry about the burps, farts, classic gangsta rap and soundboards but it has to be done. Too much seriousness at times!

I'd rather have text chat AS WELL though, easier group-finding, trading, bla bla.

I'd love voice chat if it didn't constantly crash my Ps4. I made a post in Ps4 tech support forums and got *crickets* back. Game with voice chat on = crash crash crash. Turn off voice chat and play with no problems.

At this point I'm stumped. I use PSN chat instead of in game chat now. My only guess is that ESO voice chat server must be lagging out and causing the BSoD. It happens more during prime time vs afternoon EST.

I'm kinda regretting getting a ps4 over an xbone for multiplayer games at this point. Ps4 is a beast of a console but PSN is a turd.

    or organise PvP strategies.

In Guild Wars 2 one person can alert the whole army of enemy distant movements instantly in text chat. Kind of ruined things if you ask me. I love the fact that you never know where the enemy is coming from unless you see swords, or a fort is being attacked in this.
This post will not take you an unusually long time to read.

I'd much prefer to not hear any of that while playing ESO , the guilds I'm in are all adults with careers and many with kids etc so I very much enjoy TS with them.

Of course none of them burp , fart , or do gangsta rap on TS with other folks , manners and all , a few people still have them.

So no , no I have no desire to hear any of that ever , much less playing an mmorpg.

I have ZERO problem with those of you who like hearing farts and gangsta rap as part of your ESO experience. Good for you , that's not group to run with though myself.

I just wanted the option myself to not have to hear that and still be able to communicate on the PS4.

I 100% agree with you. This is what console voice proximity chat has been like for me on my PlayStation 4. Mostly what you list plus people screaming racists slurs often for good measure. It's exactly why I want a text box to turn off all voice chat and hear the sounds of the game only and zero of this.

And this right there is all it comes down to. The text groupies that flood this forum are just traders upset that have to run around looking like fools to trade

You know, I discovered, on my PS4 settings for my headphone that I can set it so that I only hear chat. It's funny, but, suddenly, I'm hearing chat but not any of the background stuff. Maybe it's because I am actively chatting with someone and not the others? Don't know.
