I like fishing in game and out of game. The key to either is adult beverages.
If you chase two rabbits, you will lose them both.

just wondering if its even worth doing and if so where is the best place to fish

Its not where you fish, but the bait you use. There is a book in the game called "A Guide to Fishing in Tamriel" It might even be in your Lore Library in your Journal. It will tell you what bait to use on what water. The only trick is to figure out the water type you are at. It's usually obvious, but Foul Water can be hard to distinguish from Lakes or Rivers in some places.

Then, when the bobbin goes under water, reel it in. If you have the right bait, you have a 100% chance to catch a fish. Always take the Used Bait from the hook, otherwise that is all you get. If you get a Bait, just remember the bait you get at one water type will be used at another water type, not the one you are at.

What do you get? Well, the chance for a Perfect Roe from fileting the White Fish, and that can sell for 5 figures. Then you get the Green and Blue fish for the Achievements and then once marked, sell them for Gold. The fish you you get from fileting can be used in Provisioning Recipes.

Fishing is a lot more fun as a group activity, especially if you have some kind of Voice Chat to go along with it.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

It is a personal thing. If you want to just relax and are a completionist, it could be worth doing.

I have not noticed any difference in the Fishing Holes other than what would be explained by RNG. I pull about 12 to 14 fish from each hole and average 2 Greens a hole, with a Blue every 2 or 3 holes (OK, sometimes every 5 or 6, but this is solo). Some holes have only given me a few fish, one gave me 3. But, when it respawned I got the 12 to 14 I usually get. I put that down to someone fishing it before me.

This is what I see as well.

My only problems have been with super rare hole types (river in Bangkori for example) They share spawns with non-river, so there are times there are zero river up. Some zones have equivalent issues with foul etc. Fish them out and you are stuck until the zone resets at maintenance...(especially on Xbox where people aren't really fishing for achievements yet) or someone randomly fishes out one of the shared spawns wherever they may be. Took me weeks to get the River blue there.

On the other hand some rare holes in zones (like rivenspire lake holes) share spawns with themselves... so are always up in one of 2 small lakes, and with a little walking can be fished until you get what you need (bait quantity limited of course).

Devs need to do a fishing hole pass. There is still some wacky stuff.

On Xbox and PC I still find holes that return used bait when fished with all bait even correct bait (based on fish caught).

Zones that supposedly only have 3 types (4th type shared across other 3 spawns) still spawn 4th type holes sometimes. Fun,. but probably a bug/typo in spawn tables.

One thing I have never been sure about.. does fished bait (roe, minnows etc.) have any benefit over collected bait (worms crawlers)? I haven't noticed any improvement (multiple people fishing does work pretty obviously) so I'm wondering what the point of fishable bait is....never really understood store bought bait either... doesn't seem to have a real point.

There is a fisherman addon that can be real helpful. Once you have fished in a spot, it will identify it. When you are selecting bait, it tells you which bait works best for which type of fishing spot.

    It's called Votan's Fisherman

I spend a fair time fishing esp since the perfect roe drop came out on consoles too.
(tbh, had no luck so far acquiring one)

The trick in fishing is: since it's kind of boring comprated to the fast pace of the other activities, I pop open something to read, browse the net, etc, while holding the controller. When I feel the buzz, I just press the button rinse and repeat.
Fishing activity is the best opportunity to do something else: read your mails, chat on phone, read a book. Otherwise it's going to melt your brain with the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiting.
