Are magicka DKs as good as sorc for being a caster?

I'm liking my staff and cloth DK. Is this something that's on part with a sorc later on as a pure magic user?

Every class can be a pure magicka user or a pure stamina user. The sorcerer, however, do not have a lot of useful stamina skills right now, so it might be the less versatile class in that regard.

So yeah, a magicka DK can be a great magicka user, as much as any other class. I don't know the specifics, but it's probably going to be one of my next characters.

I was playing a sword and board dk and it was dreadful. My Dk in cloth and staff feels like a god in comparison.

You will be "okay-ish but if you are looking to be a WTHNUKEMBLASTEM DPS machine you are going to needa sorc.
Magicka DK's are still able to play the game true enough..... Sorcs just have so many more option if you are looking for a caster.

Magicka DKs are bestter for dps in pve, especially aoe dps is really good.
Sorcs dont have great dps in pve but are pretty good in pvp.

Sorcs are quite limited to magicka dps, not much skills to benefit tanking or healing.
DKs can do magicka/stamina dps and tanking, so you have a lot more options to switch.

I do alright on my magika DK. He's my VR14. But honestly now that i rolled a sorcerer I like that better for dps. If you want a really high survivabile caster though DK is awesome, but Sorc hits way harder. Looking at the post above me Septimus makes a good point my magika DK has very high AOE output especially since hes vamp and can spam batswarm. Depends on if you want high burst single target dps or more AOE crowd grinding. originally I had plans for him to duel wield argonian swords to fit his name better but things changed and i decided magika was a good choice. MAybe later i'll switch to that for the higher dps but for now i like having a resto staff and destro for dps/self heals

I'm just worried it's a novelty or gimmick and it's not gonna be effective end game and I'll be stuck with a high elf dragon knight.

Altmer Magicka DKs are probably the best sustained DPS in the game (PvE). You will be just fine and in most cases out-DPSing Sorcs in PvE.

PvE you'll have better dps than a sorc, pvp sorcs are better but a dk done right is still good. You'll be just fine.

As a DK, if you want to have range, you can try out an inferno staff heavy attack build with Molten Armaments. You'll do a ton of damage. With my PvP DK I use a resto staff for healing and heavy fire attacks if I want to land some hard hitting blows. I don't do solo PvP tho.

Between the two sorc is better atm, but dragonknights aren't bad in pvp, with IC we'll see how balancing goes but the new morph of whip is pretty nice and DK do pretty solid damage, still have the reflect etc. So if you WANT to play DK you'll be fine in pvp. So to answer your question right now sorc looks like a better option for you if you want to mostly pvp, but if you prefer to play DK go for it.

FOR PVE:
DK will be better in fights >40s
Sorc will be better in fights <40s

Sorc put out awesome burst dps with overload but it is very gimmicky. As soon as the overload is gone the dps falls off considerably. DK have all the DoTs and is arguably the best sustained dps in the game.

FOR PVP:
From feedback I've heard from the IC PTS testing SORC or DK and you'll have a good time.
