Nirncrux/Nirnhoned Gear

So I've spent the last hour and a half farming all over Craglorn (both upper and lower, the majority being upper) and I've gathered over 200 Voids tone Ore, over 100 Rough Nightwood, over 100 Raw Void Bloom, hundreds of Reagents and almost 100 different Runestones. Not one Nirncrux and I also found about 20 different Chests and nothing their either.

Is there a certain place or items to farm to find these items?

I've done at least as much resource mining as you and finally found my first Nirncrux this evening about an hour ago. Like Perfect Roe they're just exceedingly rare and the RNG in this game seems to be an unforgiving, miserly ***. From what I've gathered you can only find Nirncrux in random nodes in Upper Craglorn or any "rich" node (the ones you get as rewards for turning in writs) in either Upper or Lower Craglorn. So unless you need Nightwood, Voidbloom, or Voidstone to craft writs avoid resource farming in LC and stick to UC for Nirncrux.

I've gotten a Blacksmith Survey for Craglorn and I didn't get anything from those either.

    Upper craglorn only.
    Bloom/wood/ore only.
about 600-800 nodes to one nirn. Some characters of yours will be better or worse.
    Potent is very,very rare.
Survey writs for upper Craglorn are "supposedly" a better drop but after doing hundreds I have only got 2 nirns. So far they aren't worth the shadowhide.

Just read over the recent patch notes again, they made it so it can be found all over Craglorn but it apparently has to be the "rich ore, rich wood and rich cloth harvest nodes."

I hate to brag but I've gotten 3 now from two Crafting Surveys (Lush Void Bloom) yet 0 gear to research, to actually make anything with them. I'd rather just rely on the writs if I were you.

I'm not sure if this si true or not but I think that the Crafting Survey Nodes have a much higher chance of dropping Nirn. For each blacksmithing, woodworking or clothing survey I get I pretty much always get 1 Nirncrux and I have got 2 before.

There is currently a significant difference between the PC/MAc version and the console versions. It is much easier to find Nirncrux on Consoles:

PC/MAC - ONLY Upper Craglorn, only "Void" type nodes, higher rate in "lush" nodes

Console - ALL of Craglorn, only regular "Void" type nodes, ALL "lush" type nodes at a higher rate

I figure about a 3x higher drop rate on the consoles. ZOS has stated that PC/MAC will match consoles later this month.

It would seem from information oon the PTS, these are actually pointless after then IC update, so I'd stop wasting your time.

The reason for Nirnhoned originally being good, is it gives a huge increase in Magic Resistance as it was against all your stats, this is being changed to just the piece of armour. AS this will only now give a small amount of Spell Resistance, this will now be worse than having reinforced which give a small amount of Spell and Armour Resistance!

So ZOS has destroyed something that takes hours and hours of farming, then months of researching. It can be agreed that the original values were to extreme, but it would of been better to of created a compromise for such a difficult item to get, rather than make it pointless...

On a personal note I don't have any Nirnhoned as I've not yet reached max level, so would not waste them on low level gear, but as they are now increasing the Level Cap, even if they had not made this change people who had added this to their gear would need to re-do when they hit V16. This is a huge issue with items that are incredibly hard to come by, as they continue to raise the level Cap. (yes, I know they said they are removing Vets, but history shows this to be false)

At the end of the upper craglorn quests there is a random nirn piece as a reward. Or, you can buy the item from a crafter in a guild store. Sometimes they will make the item for you if you provide the stone and a nice tip of a couple thousand gold. 1-3k is the average tip.

Ok that will take me a while to get there. I never got past VR1 so far.
