What will replace Veteran ranks?

I watched ESO on Quakecon and they said that Veteran ranks will be removed, so I have two questions:
1) What will replace Veteran ranks? (at least approximatelly)
2) Why are Veteran ranks a bad thing? I heard before that players asked for them to be removed, but I never heard their arguments.

NovaMarx✭✭✭✭✭So far there is no "end" to Veteran Ranks (as far as I know - only talk). With the new Imperial City DLC, the Venteran Rank is being changed from max 14 to max 16 - 2 extra levels of vet.
As for why people want them removed? Beats me. I think it very much depends on the person and type of player you are. That being said, I'm "only" vet 5, so I don't know if it may have something to do with hitting max level (vet 14/16) and endgame. (And then there are those who whine about Champion Points. UPrime✭✭✭✭So the problem with Vet system is that it takes a lot more time to "catch up" and it becomes a chore. So the general idea is to get rid of vet ranks and just have new gear come out that is hard to get, and the previous gear becomes easy to get. So that way you can very easily get 2nd best gear, and work towards new gear as soon as you hit 50.
And when you're not chasing gear, then the Champ system is there for long term xp gain.5 -

✭this was discussed by the devs already. they will be taken out and lvl progression ends at 50. after that progression happens through the champion system.5

Of course, it's possible that those are only empty promises, but he did say that we will have to wait at least until Orsinium because they have to change many other aspects of the game to be able to remove 'em.
Guess that there is no other way, then to wait and see what happens.
I honestly hope that VRs won't be removed, because if they do, within few months they will realize that they have to bring them back.1 -

Reading about it makes me not want to do the first grind.
I'm all for a method of obtaining 2nd-5th best gear and working for best gear.
Last thing I want is to feel like I'm being carried to end game or falling behind faster than content is released.

i think once the champion system is fixed it will be fine. the devs mentioned that there would be seasonal caps on how many can be earned. (or used in a certain season, it was a little unclear.). they are also introducing a cathup mechanic for people that are behind the avg amount of champion points so to speak. they were saying if you are behind the curve you will earn points at an alarming rate to allow you to catch up to the pack. it will just be a little bit before it is implemented.1 -

I sure hope so, Imperial City DLC seems absolutely amazing to me, so it would be a shame that after DLC like that something goes wrong.

✭I mean it is a long process. vet ranks are tied to evrything in the game just like champion points. People seem to think that you can just wave a magical wand and everything is done. it requires time and man power. Additionally, i am sure they are encountering problems they never even thought of while trying to remove them. it is a long delicate process that needs to be 100% right. there is no vet switch they can just turn on an off. as i have said in previous posts, I prefer them to continue to release content with the current system rather than no content while they work through removing vet ranks.1
