Crafting Set questions

1: Do "weaker" pieces of armor (shoulders and waist) give less than "stronger" pieces when it comes to the 2-4 item bonuses or is it the same?
2: I'm sure I know the answer but want to ask anyway: Do bonus effects from the same set apply if you wear 7 or more of it or does it stop at 5?

The bonus effect is the same regardless of which pieces of the set you are wearing. There are only five bonuses, so more than five is redundant. You can wear 2 to 4 pieces of a different set (weapons and shields count, so does jewerly for dropped set items) and get the bonuses from both sets.

The level of the gear does effect some of the bonuses. I got more plus crit when I upgraded my set 2 levels.

Keep in mind that set gear with upcoming update 1.7 has dramatically changed some crafted sets. There are mixed comments and I am still trying to figure it all out for myself- downloading PTS as I write this- but from what I've 'heard' is that crafted sets requiring 2-4 traits have had the Spell Damage and Weapon Damage stat reduced significantly. What I am currently trying to figure out, is if all stats on those sets have been reduced or JUST Spell Damage and Weapon Damage and whether it was JUST to 2-4 trait sets or all crafted sets.

The questions here though is whether armor pieces that offer less stats such as armor rating than other armor pieces all of which are at equal level and quality also cause the amount each set bonus grants. For example shoulders offering +200 magicka at 2 items whereas cuirass would offer +400 from 2 items while both cuirass and shoulders are the same level and quality.

Also logically speaking wearing more than 5 pieces of gear from the same set would not do anything beyond the 5-item bonus but I just thought I'd ask and see if anyone has ever tried it and gotten the 2, 3, or even 4-item bonuses twice from wearing 7, 8, or all 9 of the same set.

Piggybacking off of this, as I have a set crafting question as well. Not sure if this is a bug, or if I'm misunderstanding the unlocked trait requirement: I'm unable to craft armor/weapons in sets for which I meet the requirements of having a certain number of traits unlocked. The only thing I can think that might be impacting this is that I did not unlock those traits at the particular set crafting locations. Is that intentional? E.g., to craft a set helm that requires two traits to be unlocked, you need to unlock those traits at -that- particular crafting location. You can't have unlocked the two traits previously at another location or one of the general crafting locations. Am I correctly understanding this? Or is that not a requirement? If it's not a requirement, I'm not sure why I'm still unable to craft set pieces that require certain number of traits to be unlocked when I meet the unlocked trait requirement .

Bonuses for the most part scale with gear level, gear quality and sometimes peripheral stats like Whitestrakes Retribution scaling off of stamina or Hunding's Rage scaling off of your weapons quality. Item sets level 1-5 receive gimped bonuses and do not have all effects until level 6. You do not get extra for having more than 5 pieces of the same set and should use your remaining gear pieces on another set.

Once you research 2 traits you can use any 2 trait station. You may want to check if you are in the right tab. Crafting stations have 4 tabs; set weapon, set armor, standard weapon and standard armor.

I'm posting screenshots of what I'm seeing, as given your description, I think I've come across a bug.

This is a screenshot of my researched traits on the cuirass. You can see I have three traits researched and unlocked:

This is a screenshot of the set creation tab for the Vampire's Kiss cuirass. You can see the requirement to unlock the cuirass so you can make it is two traits researched. Even though I have three traits researched, the Vampire's Kiss cuirass is still "red-ed" out and unavailable.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug? I'm seeing the same thing at every set item creation location. Even though I meet and surpass the requirements for creating the set items, they are red-ed out.

No, Vampire's Kiss requires FIVE traits learned, you only know three, so you must learn two more- which is why it says "Research 2 Cuirass Traits to Unlock". If you notice in the description under the 'Type' section where the Cuirass is listed, it says "Cuirass of Vampire's Kiss (5 Traits)"... this is how many traits you must learn in order to unlock it.
