Disguise removal when engaging in combat

Hello,

Regarding Vulkhel Guard disguise, it says engaging in combat removes it, but that doesn't seem to work.
Is this a bug ?

Thanks

Disguises generally get removed when you get hit - as long as its in the quest area and with the very enemies you disguise yourself from.

Once you leave that area and get hit by any other enemy... the disguise sort of functions as costume, meaning it stays on. Same with all disguises, really...

Though I wish they would just remove the disguise when you finish the quest, and give you an non-disguising costume unlock for the same visuals. Less inventory clutter that way. And less confusion.

Also, they only get removed in combat as long as you are in the quest zone where this disguise is supposed to be used as part of the quest chain.

One example (just because I remember where I got it and a bit about the quest chain) would be the Kollopi Essence (spelling?) in Greenshade. If you engage the orcs during the quests while wearing it, it would get removed. If you use this disguise anywhere else (e.g. in a different zone or a different region of the same zone) that is not related to that quest chain, you can enter combat and fight with the disguise in place without losing it.

Speaking of which, when are disguises going to be implemented in our Collections?

    We all hope soon.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

I can see why disguises in collections would be troublesome - since part of their mechanic is that you loose them when hit, and have to go and grab a new one.

Which is why I stated the workaround I'd like to see - keep disguises as they are now, but as soon as the quest they are tied to is turned in, remove the disguise from the inventory and add a non-disguise-mechanic costume of the same visuals to collections. Which could be done retroactively, the game does keep track of which quest your character has finished already after all...

if you get the outfit but dont wear it and complete the quest you get to keep it

What is the difference between Disguise and Costumes from Store ?

Costumes stay. As you rightly said they are bought from store and do not take up the "disguise"-slot in your inventory.

Disguises in their original function are part of a quest that requires camouflage/deception according to the story that is told by the quest. They use the "disguise"-slot in your inventory and in case you use them during the related quest, you can lose it.

Outside of the related quest and related zone, you can use disguises similar to the crown store costume in that they do persist through combat, but they still will take up that slot (that you can't use for anything but such a disguise anyways).

    To clarify...

Costumes purchased from the crown store also have this issue. Happened to me at least 8 times last night.

Something combat related ... sometimes traveling wayshrine to wayshrine... and I believe once pulled up my mail and when I came out it changed...

But with costumes, you just have to open up the collectibles screen and re-equip it. With disguises, they disappear from your inventory completely in case you enter combat in the wrong place.

I know that some spells cause crown store costumes to be removed. On my Templar, purifying ritual will do it every time. On my NB, refreshing path will do it most of the time, and it never happens on my DK when casting, but sometimes when fast traveling.

That disguise is required to get access to another part of the city. If you've not completed it then you'll stay in the disguise for the most part. Some are removed by combat with the NPCs holding a flame or torch but some are tied to quest progression. I believe this is an early disguise tied to quest progression that if done right you'll keep it until destroyed.

It's only removed through certain encounters.

My VR 6 still has it and after I completed the quest it never gets taken off.
To date I have 7 disguises that I've kept

    1. So both costumes and disguise work as a skin for current pants, armor, shoulders, etc ... The stats are preserver only the visual are changed right ?

    2. And secondly, if I craft an item, pants for example in a different style, also the stats are preserved, that item becomes bound to the current character and only the visual change to that current style, right ?

    1- yes
2- The crafted items have their own look by motif and are not bound. The disguises and costumes will cover up everything so the stats are preserved.
