What has the market for gear stalled?

Ok, so nobody seems to buying any gear whatsoever; the consensus is "we're waiting for the Imperial City update to see which sets get upgrades."

But Zeni's already said which sets get upgrades:
- the new crafting sets going in IC
- the new droppable sets in IC
- 11 sets from PVP reward bags
- Undaunted/group dungeon sets

Meaning, if a set is from none of thos four categories, it's not getting an upgrade. Lich set? No upgrade. Warlock set? Same deal.
V14's will always need v12/v14 gear, so why have the prices for these dropped like a rock?

It's because people want to see if there will be VR16 versions of those sets.

Or if ZOS will do another pass on set bonus to make some more attractable than others.

But that's what I'm saying: if a set isn't from one of those four categories, it WON'T get a v16 version, and that's according to Zeni themselves.

i mean u basically answered your own question... people waiting for IC.. and its not like those item will be more exspensive after IC.. id guess even cheaper so waiting and saving resources makes sense..

besides the prices and the market has been collapsing.. most peopel have what they need by now... we havent seen new gear or lvls in ages

This seems to break their trend a little as sets like Martial Knowledge etc have had a pass every single update to VR ranks.

Additionally with all dungeons and trails scaling to VR16 what's going to drop there? VR16 mobs/chests dropping VR12 items?

There's only certain markets that are still holding their prices right now in PCEU.

Mainly the heavy weight, hard to get, must run the Trials gear & Martial (just....). v12 warlocks are still being listed close to 1m gold.

Everyone is waiting for the IC Content. As for all the crafted gear, everyone in guilds offers that free nowdays up to blue or purple..*shugs*

Because people are not going to spend high amounts of gold on gear that may be inferior one month from now.

Why would a Vr16 player want some vr 14 stuff? If he did, why would he want to be gouged on price by greedy people?

People only use that trash because they dont look at what the stats give them and buy it becasue other people have it.

Vr14 gear should really be priced at vr12 prices now (couple of K if that) and everyting else few hundred.

People who think ahead have already stockpiled enough of what will hold its price now and eventually rocket a few days after IC's release.

Because people are not sure they will want to run those sets after Imperial City comes out. No one wants to pay a boatload of money for VR12/14 gear today, then find out a set from VR16 IC can be easily farmed and gives similar or better bonuses. Or maybe you'll need to buy VR16 gear with gold from some expert PvPer with millions of excess Tel-Var stones? Better save your gold now so you have some when IC comes out.

No matter what you are looking for from a set - weapon damage, max magicka, regen, block mitigation, etc., there might be a VR16 set that is better than what is currently BiS for your build. No one wants to commit to a build right now when a better build might be right around the corner.

In other words, people are not waiting for VR16 Lich or Warlock. They are waiting for as-yet-unknown VR16 gear that might be better. IC hits PTS today. If after a couple days people decide the new sets are not that great and word spreads, you might see prices rebound on existing VR12/14 gear. Or people on PTS might say, "There is this ring called Jewel of the Harvester and it is way better for regen than Warlock!!" Then you will really see current prices plummet.

They did mention what type of sets will be upgraded they did not give specifics. For a speculation example: The sun set. The five piece bonus gives an extra 5% to fire damage. If a new set, or one that is being upgraded, will do more damage than the 5% fire damage, even if the bonus is something different than fire damage increase, then players will replace the sun set with the new set. So till we know what changes and new sets are coming with IC the old stuff, at least for now will drop in price. Once IC drops and the sets are known the price will go back up for sets that will keep their desirability while the others that are being replaced and no longer desirable will drop in price.

It will be interesting to see if the IC sets will work better with the current meta (i.e. Spell damage and weapon damage)

In the past many sets have been released that were not that great like the undaunted sets

And if it takes a long time to farm the new sets i bet people that have vr14 chars will still use the almost as good vr14 gear that is easily obtainable in guild stores.

I personally would not wait a month and then weeks more to grind new gear if i leveled an alt up to vr14 tomorrow or wanted to try new gear out. It is holiday after all, so people have more time to play i guess.

That's what I suppose I'm saying - if you're v12, or even v14, are you really going to wait until you've grinded to v16 to get new gear? When there are, right now, decent v12/v14 sets there, do people really want to handicap themselves with subpar gear until they hit v16?

This^ About half the good VR12/VR14 gear will maintain its high prices after IC drops and about half will drop to zero. But until we know the specifics, everything has dropped in half. It is like all the existing sets are half-awesome/half-garbage right now. There is a Schrodinger's Cat joke in here somewhere! :-)

Yes, because like any mmo, players only spend money on end game gear (or rather, big money). Given it won't take long to get to v16, why would anyone waste lots of money on gear that likely is not optimal? V10s don't waste money on gear, they just craft stuff which is pretty good and plough on till max lvl, v14 is part of the treadmill after IC so it will pass fast.

Perfect example - why the hell would you spend 50k on v14 martial knowledge when v12 is 500g and neither is end game gear come IC. Hell, only leaderboard chasers even bother with v14 versions because v12 is plenty good enough.
