Bow skills unchanged?

I'm a level 36 character with all my focus on sword and shield skill line. I've just started using a bow to try and build another form of attack. I've been killing lurchers for a while with the bow but there is no difference to the skill bar ( for the bow) at all - none. Does anyone know why this is?

Your bow skills need to be on your active skill bar and you need to earn XP for a skill to advance.

If you're killing mobs 5 or more levels below you, you won't get any XP and your skill will never advance. If a kill does not give you XP, it won't count towards any of your active skills.

could be you're too high a level for the zone you are in and thus you are no longer gaining XP from killing enemies in that Zone. might be time to move on.

I didn't know they had to be within 5 levels of my character - that's probably it - thanks!

Also, place as many bow skills on the active bar when turning in quests. The more you have the faster gains will be.
