Guild work

Hi, I'm going to take a big role within my guild, not by choice, but by order. Our guild will be doing PVP over 2 alliances, PVE all zones. A small but tight group of role players. Maybe a RAW trader.

Anyways I need to know how best to manage the guild, I can't let them go free roam. My guild isn't a HOSTEL.

What kind of ranks do you have?
How many leaders do you have?
How do you sort out the "wheat from the chaf.
How do you test your new members. ( trust )

5 ranks maybe 6

1 leader than 2-5 sub leaders

go with them on events like you said pvp and pve and see how they act

put them into the lowest rank that has nothing but guild store use and guild deposit (item and gold) and see how long they stay :P and if they stay for quite a bit and deposit stuff than bump them up 1 rank and repeat?

Great thanks, so one leader is best ( it seems to work for trading guilds ) but I don't want to leave players without a leader. Would two work, or am I being a fool expecting the second to follow my rule and support me.

I love the advice "go with them" for trust.

It depends entirely on you... and what kind of guild you want it to be & what kind of GM you want to be.

There is no best answer.

Personally I take the view that everybody is in the game to have fun, and don't like to have overly oppressive rules on most stuff (Wheres the fun in that).... I try to help as many people in the guild with anything that I can, and adjust things to the way people want.

In terms of the ranks, our guild has a GM & co/GM that have total access, we have some officers who have almost total access except for taking out gold, and then 2 ranks for members.... an entry rank without the ability to withdraw items from the guild bank, and one with access. That's really the only issue.

We manage it very simply.... no checking up on people so to speak.... if somebody contributes to the guild in some way then they get access. Contribute could be regularly adding items to the bank, donating gold for trader bids, coming on events, being active within chat & helping people, all those kind of good things.

With around 100 people in our guild and we're primarily an RP guild we have for ranks:
GLs (2): All privs
Officers (8ish): invite, kick, full guild bank access
Members: bank access
Trial Period: no bank access or other privs
Friends: no bank access or other privs

How do you become a full member in our guild? We maintain a required website with several informational posts that are required "read & sign" and while we don't rush people to do them all, by the time they do they know if we're their cup of tea or not. We also get to know our players and we RP with them, run PvE content with them, etc so by the time we decide to make them full members we know if they are OUR cup of tea or not. We have rules about how the bank is used and so far we've not had any problems. The Friend rank is for RL friends, significant others who want to hang out with their SO in game but aren't necessarily into our weird little niche guild and members of other guilds we're allied with in order to maintain easier communication.

Nothing will substitute for getting to know your members and after that, building a core of officers you can trust. Makes the "work" light for everyone and you almost always have an officer or two online in case of trouble or if players need them.

Um, what? You're being ordered to take on a big role in your guild that you wouldn't choose to do? Something seems wrong with that equation to me.
