buying different horses - a waste of money or am I missing something?

I'm confused by the horses. I bought the game last month - long after the changes to horses took place.

Unaware that the horse system had been overhauled I've been and bought 3 horses - duuh!?. The first one for 10k then the allegedly "speedy" one (it's amazing how you can convince yourself that something is faster just because you believe it to be so) and last week the painted horse. I had been reading the in-game horse descriptions and online guides and was very surprised when the painted horse didn't give me any baggage bonus. I've since found out that the whole thing's been overhauled (thanks for updating your ingame descriptions Zenimax) and that my speedy horse doesn't give any speed bonus and the painted horse is just fluff for farmers.

My question is this: are the different horses actually different in function or only different in skin? I've been playing around with the painted horse with newly rolled characters, and old characters who've already trained a little baggage capacity and cannot find any baggage benefit whatsoever? Nothing. Which you can imagine has made me both amused and somewhat frustrated. Hey, it's only imaginary money - but nonetheless, a little update to the ingame descriptions would have been nice.

All horses are now only different skins. You can level up the speed, stamina, and storage on one horse to max levels, and then switch out the skins to apply them to another.

    @ZOS_JessicaFolsom,
The in game tool tips have needed updating for some time. Can this be attended to soon?

To answer the question any and all differences between mounts and horses are purely cosmetic now.

Maybe you should've actually checked whether the horses had any differences before throwing away your money.

Also if you only bought the game last month that implies that you had never played it before so why are you getting confused about the Horse and riding skill system.

If you had played previously the surely you should already have a horse so your comment about how you were 'Unaware that the horse system had been overhauled' doesn't make any sense because if you only bought the game last week how would you know how would you not know how the updated version works and still think it worked the same as the old version from 5 months ago if you just bought the game?

It even give you pop up tutorials when you first view the stables that you should have read.

Well, if you like having options in terms of visuals, then multiple horses isn't a waste, per se. But otherwise... *sad face*

@keybaud I read a lot of stuff online to familiarize myself with the game before I began playing. Thankfully, I took everything I read with a grain of salt because I noticed that the vast majority of it was outdated and applied solely to PC. The online guides and horse descriptions could prove misleading, so that's possibly what the OP meant.

Maybe you should believe strangers have brain cells instead of dismissing them as idiots? Google "horses ESO" and read all of the online guides/ walkthroughs. Every single one of them details the old system. The ingame description only supports this. IF a player is new to the game and is trying to find out what he's going to get for his gold he has no reason to know that the system works differently. I had no idea there'd been an overhaul until I found my horses weren't working the way the "out of date" guides described them. Since then I've been asking what the new rules are and have been given a lot of conflicting answers so I came here. - I don't even know why I'm rising to a troll.

It would be even nicer if actual GAME update its information to be honest. Outside sites having outdated information is one thing, but actual *ingame* descriptions still being the old ones claiming horses give speed/bags/stam bonuses when they don't...

Sorry OP, that does suck:( And yes, all horses have same stats and just differ visually now as has already been mentioned.

It's flavour text, don't take it as any more than that. It also claims that the Frost Mare "seems carved from the very glaciers of Skyrim", when in reality they are from Takubar.

Which is the point to his post............

Why so eager to spend the time to type a long attack when you could just have spent the time reading his post and not then felt the need to correct the wrong person on the interwebs?

Typically the speeds and attributes are the same for all horses and mounts now. There is a difference in the feel of some of the mounts. The Guar and Senche mounts have a different "gate" than the horses and I find that some handle terrain better than others. Guar sort of lumber along with longer strides and jump differently while the Senches Road Runner along and hug the ground. At least that's my perspective. Could totally be an imagining but I don't think so.

All depends on what you like the look of now, it all depends on what point of view you have to some they like having a choice of different looks to ride so not a waste to them to others it's all about stats and I guess it would be a waste to them, depends on what camp you fall into. :)
