What is the point of equipment durability?

What is, in your opinion, the point of equipment durability? Maybe there is some secret to why devs of quite a handful of games use this damn system?

This is not the first game I play where this factor exists and it annoys me. I am sure this merely an opinion, some may find this to make this game more immersive and realistic, etc.A Also it seems funny that while I can craft stuff, I can't fix things myself.

I see two reasons for it.

    1. A gold sink to control for the economy.
    2. It rewards you for not dying. (Or adds consequence for dying)

Here? Mostly just a gold sink. In other games it can enhance immersion, add a layer of risk and encourage smart resource management. Particularly in the survival genre or games with survival elements.

Same point as in DAOC, after repairing there is less durability until its broken ...

If you would do this in ESO, players will cry like a baby.

In this game durability drop appears to be based on experience gained so even if you have the most evasive range build imaginable and never get hit your armor durability drops. The durability drop is therefore a reward for playing.

The fun thing is that most grinding can be done with your armor at 0 so it simply doesn't matter at all.

It's a moneysink to help keep MUDflation hedged a bit. And an extremely minor death penalty.

Exploits suck. Don't blame just the game, blame the players abusing them!

To be fair, it's not really consequences OR a gold sink when, through literally any activity you can possibly do, you make more gold than it costs to get it back up to full durability. It's just a gimmicky annoyance really.
