Undercutting in guild stores

Still makes no sense to constantly undercut others. I say find a good price at which stuff sells and stick to it for everyone, that way everyone gets money there is tons to chose from and the guild gets a nice cut from every transaction. But hey what do I know?

u rlly dont get it how an open market works do you..... -_-

OK so I have been in trading guilds since I figured out I can buy and sell tons of stuff and make money which I have been doing since level 10. But what is starting to *** me off is that people are constantly undercutting each other to make their item sell faster. I sell daedra hearts for 3k. I talked to my guild leader and he has posted in the MOTD that undercutting others will get you kicked. So everyone in my guild now sells stuff for about the same price. Daedra hearts for 3k, blue motifs for 3-4k grain solvent for 4-5k and so on. Whats pissing me off is that there are now people selling hearts for 2900... and its not only getting them less money but it hurts the guild because they don't get as much in taxes. Same with rare motifs, a few weeks ago they sold for 90-100k (Primal, daedric etc) and not I can buy them as low as 40k... That is ridiculous. Not only would you make more money if everyone sold for the same price but everything would be more smooth and efficient. In the one guild I am in we have a stall in daggerfall and there was about 3-4 of us selling grain solvent all for 4-5k, last night someone came in and bought all of them from everyone. So not only did we make more by staying around the same price for all of us but now the person buying didnt have to go to 5 different stalls to get a decent deal. I know people want to sell their *** and make money but please just look at the prices and sell for the same price! It will get you so much more money. #rantover

That's what you think. If you list an item at an expensive rate, nobody will bother buying it when they can get it for a better price from another guild. That's just how it is - it works the same in the real world. Why do you think Wal-Mart and Amazon have had so much success? A trading guild that dictates prices probably won't do very well compared to guilds that allow their members to price items as they like.

Why not inflate an item to make your other item seem more "reasonable"? Post 2 of the same item... put one up for a little bit more than what you want to sell it for, put the second one up for a lot more than you want to sell it for. The one that looks cheap by comparison should sell pretty quickly.

I took the high road and kept my prices high. Problem is, no one is buying them. I'm trying my best to support an expensive market but if people won't buy my overpriced items, I'll be forced to lower the price. Please support me and buy my items before it's too late...

My question is why even sell it that high to begin with? Like the Pjici drink parts. Why sell them at 80K there parts of the drink which is only worth 4-5k. This whole horker dung about prices need changes over all some of this stuff like the daedric heart you mention is so no worth 3K. Guild stores lower your prices and stop over pricing every thing.

Encountered this many times when purchasing items from one trader. Same item sold by 3 players, all at different prices. Good for the buyer.
People get greedy. Remember seeing a Daedric motif selling for $45k on one trader & $25k on another.....

From what I learnt in economics classes, if someone is willing sell the same thing for 1 gold less than what you are asking for, yours is overpriced already.

This is the behaviour of free/perfect market.

If i sell cheaper than other guys, well .. that just gives them incentive to buy it and relist at the price they like.

Undercutting is the normal state of the market, supply and demand, you can't win em all, and FYI if u try and standardize the prizes, u won't be able to play the game of buy-low-sell-high yourself Einstein, but well, eventually your trade guild will go out of buisness, since in all the other guilds, prices will drop (and rise sometimes to) because that's how a free market works, supply and demand (except for zos who controls the droprates)
So I wish you good luck on your crusade to control the market, goodluckwiththat

On the xbox i have seen sites etc posted that give prices to post at .. which to me is nuts as then if everyone does that, it'll all be one price (roughly) and ruining the point of multiple guilds

I'm am not going to stubbornly insist on a price when if something isn't moving. I am dumping inventory for a better price that selling to NPC. I am not going to waste time trying to find out what price everyone else is setting at. I'll use my sales history and master merchant to decide a price.

I am not interested in items going unsold 30 days or in having all my guild store slots full. I don't play the game to be a merchant. I sell stuff as part of inventory management and to make sure I have money when needed.

Wont pay for than 1k for motifs....and 3k for D hearts??

Holy *** your a clan of thieves lol, are you guys the new thieves guild DLC????

Console prices are insane right now. People asking 2K for green vendor trash, common motifs for 5K+, etc. Tempers are almost impossible to find, and when you do, they go for mad crazy prices.

Are people who transferred from PC buying up low priced inventory, cornering markets, and then selling at higher prices?

Or is it just due to less items in the system?

Also, have transfer accounts snatched up all the good guild store spots?

I love how "undercutting" is a punishable offense in that guild, but if everyone kept their prices at the same rate, I still wouldn't buy from them because those prices are outlandishly high. I'm glad some people are starting to get the idea...

I would sit around praying someone undercuts me by a ridiculous margin. Then I would buy up their items, flip them, and make a profit without leaving the guild bank room.

Everyone wins! They sell more quickly, I get easy money, and the consume... pays more? Ok, so not EVERYONE wins, but I sure do! =D

I agree, competition in a free market sucks. Why can't we just all get together and form massive oligopolies of trading guilds that buy up all the guild traders in all but the most remote locations and then agree not to compete with each other? It would sure beat having to compete for the lowest price and best value to gain consumers and therefore wealth.

What? It works pretty well IRL.

    This thread is hilariously dumb.

Of course I'm going to list my item at a lower price than yours. I want people to buy -my- item, not yours. And, on the PS4 at least, people try to sell things at ridiculous prices. In that scenario, I might undercut you by a thousand percent. What's that? A level 30 green robe for 2k? Good luck selling that, bro. Mine will sell overnight for 250g.

I will undercut you every. single. time. As you should do to me. And any guild leader who tries to "ban undercutting" is as clueless as you are.

You are describing price fixing. Thanks by the way. I can go into voice chat and hawk my goods at a fair price.

Also price fixing will kill your guilds profit. Consider this, you can get everyone in your guild to artificially jack up prices, but you can't stop the next guild over from undercutting or just offering a non fixed price.

Thus the other guild gets your business and because there are no deals occurring in your store people may just skip it.

BTW I sell blue motifs for 2k, or really for free if a player is nice and seems new.

Dwemer motifs for 3k unless we just trade purples.

I give all my imperial motifs to new members of the guild.

Our guild just hippy shares our mats.

I mostly use voice chat and make sales for fun and to make new friends.

You mean competition? Lol. You're basically stating that, if you have something, and sell it for a certain price, your price should be the only price that is allowed. Everyone else should just wait their turn, basically, for their items to sell. This must be why prices on console are sop outrageous. That, and the fact that because everyone has to join multiple guilds, and traverse all of Tamriel searching guild stores for a single item, most people end up just saying screw it, and paying some outlandish price.

Anyway, supply and demand is econ 101. Other people have the same product, and can afford to sell it cheaper.

I "undercut" - not to drive other people out of business or to lessen their sales but to get a quick sell.

It's not my fault that some people ask ridiculous amounts for trash recipes and glyphs. I sell them cheap because I want to shift them quickly because I get so many and prefer to sell them cheaply to the crafters who want them rather than sell to vendors for next to nothing.

If the people who buy them want to sell them on then good luck to them - I've made my profit.

And maybe instead of undercutting it's really a matter of other people overcharging...

Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.
