PC Controller Support Should Be OPTIONAL

After watching the Quakecon video, I have a major concern about this 'automatic' UI switching. I, for one, enjoy how I have my controller connected along with being able to use the keyboard, mouse, Logitech G13, etc. I do NOT want to have my options of playing the game removed simply because I want to use a controller. I seriously hope they understand that players want OPTIONS as to how they play the game, and therefore should allow us to turn OFF this 'automatic' UI switching and allow us to continue using PC UI with controller as we have it now.

Can I please get a ZOS rep to chime in and state whether or not there will be an option to turn this 'automatic' switching OFF.

It will be optional. You can not have a controller plugged in. Simple as.

The best controller support I have seen on PC is in GTA5. Switching between using kb/m and controller was seamless and even the on screen button prompts would change based on the last input used.

I hope ESO will give us controller support in any form but the way GTA5 handles multiple inputs would be ideal and should become the standard.

That is NOT an 'option' that is FORCED UI! I wonder if they're also going to have FORCED controller layouts as well- where you have no option to configure your controller.

I can also only imagine the nightmare this is going to cause for Addons, if you cannot use both keyboard AND controller, as accessing Addon options typically require the use of additional keys.

UPDATE: Perhaps I am overreacting, but I like how I have my system set up and I don't know how this new 'controller support' is going to change that. I like being able to customize my controller, and don't want it to become like the awful layout they currently have on XBOX and PS4.

Everytime I see PC and controller in the same title, I just stop by to remind players that this game is on console as well :P

^This! Apparently I must remind some console players that they have no addons, they have no text chat, and have horrible means of configuring their controllers along with worse graphics, I could go on.

Don't be silly input preference has nothing to do with platform preference. I do not own any of the "next gen" consoles and never will but I enjoy using a controller in plenty of games.

Witcher 3 does the same thing.

Skyrim has a system where it will auto-swap to Controller if a controller is turned on and swap back to keyboard and mouse if the controller is shut off.

The auto-swap system is what appeases OP's concerns, unless I miscomprehended them.

The auto-swap feature would allow players to instantly swap over to the typing interface then swap back to controller controls for playing.

The only people that this might interfere with are those who use a controller in their left hand for character movement and a gaming mouse in the right hand for more precise camera control and skill activations.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Explaining this to my husband, he was curious too. He uses controller and specifically does "not" want console UI. He wants to continue with his X-padder set up.

Will it still be possible, or will those who were content be forced into basic mode?

By default in the system, it would no longer be possible.

Tera is an example of an MMORPG that has a toggle in menu to deactivate default controller support.
Whether ZOS has the good sense to implement such a toggle remains to be seen.

Yes, will be messed up if all those people who acted like you couldn't already use controller messed it all up for those who are happy with their setups

I use xpadder to run both kb/m and controller. I figure programs like this that let your controller keys emulate keyboard and mouse functions will still be an option. We may have to wait for the third party devs to develop updates to addons and programs like xpadder to work with the game once controller support is added. That is the great thing about PC is the ability to use addons and third party software to tailor the gameplay around how we want it!

Hmmm I've evacuated PC but I see ppl pts if they feel one UI is default based on USB input.
I guess a lot of this will resolve around which controllers are supported and which are not.

I'd assume the PS4, PS3, xbox360 and Xbox 1 controllers are supported but there are so many others out there.
I'd also have to say it's be impossible to add controller support on PC without some form of button assignment options due to the many different controllers. With that should open up some UI options as well and add-on support

Same, XB1 controller with xpadder. I have everything perfect but I still use mouse and keyboard for certain things..

Why would people buy a console when they get better graphics and function from my PC for very close to the same price of a console these days?

Also, PC has text chat.. Console doesn't. I can't stand the VOIP on the consoles.

After playing on PC, I will never make a console my main gaming unit ever again, especially with so many former console only games releasing on PC now. I only play the PS4 version when few friends are on, but never ever on my own.

Also your ignorance regarding people using controllers and it having to be a console only option is astounding.

People with various disabilities have a right to play this game any way they wish and using a controller helps them do that. They shouldn't have to buy a POS over priced console just to play this game.

This was my main concern on the thread I made yesterday. I like my current controller set up that I created during Beta using Better DS3. I don't want that to change.

It won't be so bad if they have the option to allow us to remap whatever god-awful mapping they thought out for the controllers that console users have to live with right now, but if they don't have that option, and we know ZOS is TERRIBLE at giving us OPTIONS, then it is going to peeve a heck of a lot of controller using PC players off.

ZOS's ridiculous decisions on other things , plus the fact they have said ZERO in this or the other thread about it means people are not overacting.

It's a distinct possibility they are stupid enough to put in controller support that will override the most likely better 3rd party options people are already using

They could have 100% shut down any worries by a reply that takes 5 seconds by now.

My guess is yes , it is the forced their way only option , and they are scared to admit it here yet. Or are scrambling to see if they can change it.

Well my first thought was that. But getting answers on a weekend has also been an issue (and) its a bigger week for them.

I use a controller and keyboard. I've grown accustomed to my bindings and have become a very good player with them. If this new support does force a certain layout, then I'm sure "someone" will just release an alteration.

The point is we want to use the keyboard UI with a 3rd party controller emulator, not be forced to use the controller UI just because a controller is detected. Why not support having the option to use both?

I play with Xpadder and used to want controller support until I saw the layout ZOS used for XB1 and PS4. I would much prefer my current setup and PRAY that we won't be forced to use their controller layout if an Xbox 360 controller is detected.

ZOS: PLEASE let us have the option to switch between keyboard/mouse or controller if a controller is detected!!!

I tried Xpadder but when i copied a profile to it my cursor shot up to the upper left corner and wouldn't let me use it. I had to completely shut down and restart. I'm using windows 8.1. Any of you guys have this problem. I emailed Xpadder tech support about but never got an answer. I'm using pinnacle right now but would prefer Xpadder.

Not for me it isn't. During Beta I tried playing this game with a keyboard and mouse only and I hated it. I immediately researched and taught myself how to set up the needed third party programs and created a controller mapping that specifically suited my needs.

I have been playing this game for over a year and a half without a controller themed UI. I don't want a controller themed UI and I shouldn't be forced to have it just to continue playing the game the same way I have been all this time. I am betting that it will be optional and you will still be able to use third party. The reason being that it will likely be native for Xbox One and PS4 controllers. I use a 360 controller.
