So Sorcerers are still buggy I see...

rant on

After playing a stamina NB thru the whole game from level 1 and the new "and improved" introduction all the way to the completion of Cadwell's Gold I decided to dust off the old VR12 Sorcerer to see if it was any better than when I left. Imagine my total lack of surprise when I see that basic stuff is still broken. Mage light, for example, about half the time the effect of the glowing orb doesn't appear. And, of course, just about every effect on a mage like summoned armor, pets, buffs, etc. vanish every time they walk in or out of a dungeon. Having to recast your spells just because you walked thru a door or traveled by wayshrine is a load of horse pucks. Do Templars have to re-equip their armor? Do Knights have to replace their sword and shield for doing something so basic? No, of course not. And there are places where this can kill you, having to spend time and magicka to cast 2 or 3 spells when you go thru a door into a boss battle might not be possible. And hell, without addons you don't even know if mage light is cast or not because it doesn't show the effect reliably. How can stuff like this still be broken after all this time? This is basic, fundamental game mechanics that don't work. There is no excuse for this ZOS, none.

Yes, Magelight is bugged and sometimes doesn't show up visually. This affects everyone, not just sorcerers. Also, toggled skills turn off for every class upon entering another zone or dungeon, not just sorcerers.

That's not the only graphical effect that's busted though. Storm Calling's Boundless Storm sometimes leaves the lightning effect up far after the spell has ended. I've watched the buff timer run out and seen the effect for several seconds afterwards. Is it still up? Do I need to recast it? I assume when the timer is gone I should recast but is that a waste of magicka?

And there is no reason for the toggled effects to turn off simply because you move to another zone. I guess I use them more with sorcerers so I notice the pain. It's still a lousy implementation of a basic feature.

That's the least of sorcs' problems, you just try using Overload:P

Inner Light isn't a sorc skill and yes it is buggy, you can check if it's up without addons though - your character("C" by default) list will display its effect if it's active. I do end up checking it sometimes but it's a small annoyance compared to oh so many other things...and I don't mind recasting it, guess somewhat automatic by now.

Overload is the only problem I have with sorcs. Ive gave up on using it. When I need it, it never activates.

I just look at my skill bar for magelight. Recasting buffs is no big deal going through instance doors. Neither are sorc specific anyway.

Magelight was annoying up until I got the morph because the only way I could tell if it was active was by looking at my bar for a faint change in the ability's outline (I play in first-person, but wouldn't have been able to rely on the third-person floating orb of light clue anyway, seeing as it was often too shy to make an appearance). Inner Light is so much better--glowy eyes, glowy arms, glowy screen, and occasionally a glowy orb.

Briefly encountered the Overload bug on my old sorcerer, but haven't had any trouble (yet) since rerolling a new one. Gotten used to the constant recasting of summoned stuff when rezoning, just have to remind myself to do so. Annoying, but tolerable.
