Any reason to use destro staff besides the abilities?

I have an offensive caster templar that I was going to do staff on , and found myself running dual resto staves. Seemed like the most logical decision, seeing as they return mana and health on heavy attacks. But then I got to watching some videos of similarly built players, and also noticing similar players in game, and almost all of them ran flame destro staves along with their resto!

This got me wondering... what's the deal? Do they probably just make use of a destro ability, or is there some innate difference between the two outside of skills that makes a destro staff a more worthy weapon to run for ranged magicka combat?

The fire staff gets +15% damage to the heavy attack, and fire is great in PvP due to all the vamps. Resto is a good channel for unlockable damage, and fire on the other bar for burst from the heavy attack

A destro staff heavy attack also restores magicka (albeit not as efficiently as a resto staff), there's a passive in the destro staff line that lets you do heavy attacks faster, there's a passive in the line that restores more magicka when you kill with a destro staff attack or ability, and there's a passive that makes the heavy attacks have additional effects based on what type of staff it is. Also, depending on the type of staff, a heavy attack is charged rather than a channel like the resto staff heavy attack is - on an initial attack this can make a difference in terms of being able to kill a mob before it gets to you or not, because the mob won't react until it gets hit by the full attack, rather than reacting on the first damage tick.

So basically, spells aside, destro staff heavy attacks are much better for ranged DPS than resto staff ones.

For PvE dps, the light attack weaving can be your way of gaining ultimate and adding a bit of dps. That's the only reason I use it in my dps build.

I must admit, the only type of destro staff I use is flame. I've heard that some people prefer one of the others, but I don't know what the reasoning for that is - flame always seemed superior to me.

Ice works very well for keeping your target 40% snared. I prefer that over 15% damage as i use other class abilities to kill with.

On my sorcerer I use fire staff on my single target bar, but on my AOE bar I use Lightning for the disintegration/disorientation chance. Frost AOE Qualities as well.

^ and this is the answer. Frost may snare shock may do splash which is great for mob and CC control but at the end of the day most players don't care they just want more damage and when fire says a flat 15% damage boost there gonna use it.
