So you're gonna increase from VR14 to 16... And then remove veteran ranks? So smart...

I seriously don't understand what they're trying to do. If people are complaining about the veteran rankings then simply cut down the XP that is required to level up -- which they're doing. And when that happens I feel sorry for those hard working people who actually got there to begin with. Level grinding or not, people wasted more so of their life to get to that point. I just wish they didn't take it away to begin with. It's a nice goal to get to VR level, and there is no law saying that you have to play through Cadwells Silver and Gold. Why can't people just stop complaining about everything. Play the game out as it is

And yes I'm VR 3 and finding it forever to level up - but you know what? I'm enjoying it, I'm getting all the quests done and killing enemies and I eventually get there.

Enjoy the dang story line.

You'll stop enjoying "the dang story line" when you try to VR14 your 4th alt.

That aside, we're past the point where VRs are a debatable concept.
They will be removed. It's not an "if", but a "when".

    The Veteran System consists of several things;

    • Player power level with Veteran Ranks
    • Crafting; Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Clothing, Enchanting, Provisioning and Woodworking
    • Itemisation; Veteran Rank requirement for items, power level of items being tied to Veteran Rank of the item
    • Veteran Rank dungeons; they scale to the veteran rank of the party leader, VDSA requires V14 to enter [unless it was changed]

Veteran Ranks are being increased with Update 7 as stronger items are introduced, the items are stronger than "v14" items, eventually the Veteran System, Veteran Ranks included will be gone.

    ".

This. And yes OP you "have" to do Silver for 2 reasons. 1. To get the skyshards and XP to level up to VR 6 or 7. 2. To unlock Gold which you need for the skyshards and to level up to VR 10 or 11 so you can do Craglorn.... so you can get the skyshards and XP to make it to VR 14. So yeah, if you're willig to give up all those skillpoints and never experience endgame, sure you can skip it. But there's no viable alternative if endgame is your goal.

I'm stuck at VR9 because craglorn is pretty much all group content, being on console with no text chat I can't find a group. So its either attempt to solo or grind mobs for days to get the last 5ish VR levels lol.

Unless someone knows a way besides those two with out grouping to level VR?

PvP and grind a VR10 zone, you can grind up to VR14 in a VR10 zone but it will take awhile..

Also use 2H in craglorn, Brawler specifically, and you can take on small groups by yourself..

You've missed a lot along the way. Without grinding (but with doing enough Cyrodiil PVE to get the achievements for all of the quest hubs, and with killing pretty much all the mobs I came across while questing) I hit VR14 with 3 zones of Cadwell's Gold left...

You won't get as much XP for the stuff that you missed now that you're over-leveled and won't be getting the mob XP (or only reduced mob XP), but you should go back and do the quests, dolmens, delves, and world bosses that you missed. You'll still get XP for turning in quests, and completion XP for the dolmens, delves, and world bosses, even if you're too high level to get XP from the kills.

I didn't miss anything while doing silver or gold. Did all delves and world bosses and anchors.

But I've never pvpd so maybe that's why our experience and levels are different.

Also I didn't know pvp gave XP. So I guess I will just have to pvp it up for a bit and given that a try.

If you're only VR9 and you're done with all of the gold zones, you've definitely missed stuff. Or you've avoided killing mobs as you go - that's possible too. I do have a tendency to kill everything I come across (use a disguise for this quest? nah, I'll just kill everyone who looks at me funny!), so if you only fight the stuff you have to fight, that could be the difference. More likely, though, you've missed quests along the way.

At most the Cyrodiil stuff has earned me 2 vet ranks, and probably less than that. Also, while PVP does earn XP, I don't think it's a very efficient way to level. I really don't do much PVP though - I go to Cyrodiil to do PVE stuff there, and I only PVP when I have to because I unintentionally ran into enemy players.

They just want you to make new gear and spend gold and materials, just the lazy and uninventive way to get you to do it. As for removing the ranks you have to watch that episode of south park where Butters meets George R.R. Martin "Don't worry the dragons are coming". Probably a bad joke few will get but basically they will dangle it for quite some time.

I definitely snuck passed some mobs and used disguises.

Thanks for the pvp info, that's what I didn't want to happen get to a delve or anchor onlybto get ganked and not get credit or have to break back 5 hours to get there again lol.

I've tried grinding and it was horrible lol. But I'll try to grind again. I did get 1/4 vr bar for about a couple hours grinding. Just wish the people who join in actually had manners and waited for everyone else and the group of mobs to bunch up instead of freaking out like a spazz lol

Not everyone likes questing, also alts, as has already been said. We want to experience different classes and playstyles - you know, play the way we want? And most of us are aware what endgame is, be it PvP or vet dungeons/(v)DSA/Trials.
Questing on my 4th character makes me want to throw laptop out of the window. To be honest grinding does the same but at least it's faster.

Questing on my first character I thoroughly enjoyed, did every single quest and everything I could, found all skyshards and treasure maps without addons. Was v12 by the time I finished Cadwell's Gold. But HAVING to redo it again in order to be able to run v14(16 inc?) dungeons with my friends is absolutely horrible, like being forced to reread a book you liked. I mean FORCED. It kills any love you had for the book first of all.

They should finally come around to treat Vet Ranks like seasons and move everyone up to VR14 with Update 7. That's really the only acceptable solution until they remove them. I have 7 vet chars and only one VR14, because leveling veteran ranks is so utterly life-draining, as there are very few ways to do so efficiently.

Right now I'm trying to get my VR8 ready for IC by powering through Cadwell's Silver, and I've been doing the same quests probably 10 times by now. How am I supposed to "enjoy the dang storyline" like this? Are you going to watch the same movie 10 times in a row? For how long can you listen to the same song over and over again?
What's more, even when I finally get into the gold zones, the grinding spots will be hopelessly overrun. People are competing for exp instead of cooperating for it, something they explicitly wanted to avoid prior to release and have not mentioned since at all.

Craglorn should have solved this problem by providing rewards for all kinds of activities, but it failed miserably and there is no indication it will be fixed, ever. Considering Craglorn content will not even be scaled up to VR16 with Update 7, it seems ZOS abandoned the zone alltogether. Just like the players did.

A MMO with only 50 lvls is going to be a joke.

PVP? There is already battle leving in work.

ALTS? Who tells you to make bazilion and gazilion of alts? You Choose to make alts so you should think that you will have to lvl them somehow before making an alt and then complaining that you ahve to lvl it up (and again who tells you to max lvl every single alt of yours)?

LMAO, its funny how people decide to roll an all and they expect like what? It will be lvl max instantly? You CHOSE to make an alt, you CHOSE to lvl it up, BEAR with consequences of that and THINK BEFOREHAND that you will have to either grind lvls or repeat quests.

I really hope ZOS is not going to listen to cries and whines of people who want to be max lvl in one day and come back to their senses and at least replace all VR from 1 to 16 with like 20 regular lvls so the new lvl cap after removing vet ranks will be like 70.

We all have hours and hours to 'waste' playing computer games, so for almost all of us our lives can't be that bad to feel sorry for anyone. The game is just for enjoyment and relaxation. Not one thing about it matters in the slightest in the bigger picture, so as long as we are enjoying ourselves whilst playing there is absolutely nothing that anyone can do - development or otherwise - in the future to take that experience away from us.

In terms of Veteran Ranks, Zenimax was faced with two options it seems: Hold off releasing content for several more months until they complete the mechanical changes to the game and remove veteran ranks, or; Release some new content now with the current traditional level-increasing system in place, and then remove the ranks a bit later on in the future. As much as I'm looking forward to the removal of veteran ranks, I'm looking forward to experiencing new content in the game more. So I think they've made the right decision, even though in the long run it seems like it's making more work for them.

As a new player, my point of view in all this is the following: I originally had planned creating at least 2 alts, so I could have 1 character in each faction and experience all the story and questlines... Then, I discovered the existance of the veteran system, silver and gold. Changed my mind, looks like I'll be playing the entire time with my dk. This is quite a negative feeling.

    However, it's the only downside.

I don't know, I don't have enough experience to know about what I'm talking, but I'll talk about it anyways. It feels to me the veteran system shouldn't be removed, it just needs to be tweaked. The leveling system in this game is awesome, I've been playing for quite a lot and I'm only around lvl 20. This reminds me very much off vanilla wow. People like to tell vanilla wow had grinding, but that's a straight lie or ignorance. Vanilla wow forced you to complete ALL the quests in the entire game to reach lvl 60. ALL of them. I remember you had to completely deplete a 30-35 zone, then go travel to the other faction continent and complete their 30-35 zone too in order to proceed. It was this way with all the zones. The player had to see the entire content the game had to offer to reach end game. It was awesome. Reaching lvl 60 those days where actually a thing. Nowdays people have lvl 100 characters and don't have a single clue about the huginess and complexity of the game they play.

I must say, I don't know ESO enough so I may be speaking in complete ignorance, but I'm loving that leveling isn't instant like Wow nowdays, and I full support the veteran system as an idea. If they want to rework the veteran system that's okay, maybe completing 1 faction (your own faction) is enough to reach end game and allow players to enter it, but leave the option there to those who enjoy it. Also, leave a slight reward to those who went for all the work, and for those who still will. Nothing game breaking, but still, has to be something. Those extra skillpoints because of the skyshards, for example, seems a good idea to stay where they are.

Just my noob 20 cents =p

It's not an "if", but a "when".

im never going to make another alt , theres no point and lots of other people like me don't make different other alts, you are complaining about it being more work, yet making another char is more work to begin with.

Take note people .. this ^^ is how a game should be played.

How many times do I have to enjoy it before I'm "hardcore"? Twice, four times, eight? I've only saved Emeric's sniveling little *** four times so far, maybe on the fifth he'll not be such a wuss?

I agree I enjoyed the storyline a few times now i want to try other skills/classes/races as a combination. I want VR to stay but I also don't want to be told to "enjoy the storyline" on my 6th or 7th alt lol
