So is ESO and ZOS officially part of Bethesda.net?

From the Bethesda.net site
Indeed, BethesdaNet is already being used to support The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited across all platforms, and will be at the heart of all our games going forward.

Not 100% sure what that means, what support has it given verses this site and the ZOS team? Is elderscrollsonline.com just a subdivision of Bethesda.net? And what does that mean for future support, as they continue talking about? A bit of the business jargon is rather confusing.

If some of the changes like "create and share their creations" to ESO include mod support for cinsole or even map editors for ESO, I won't be complaining

It seems BethesdaNet is the work around for Microsoft and Sony not allowing Add-ons. Most likely ESO's dealings with these companies birthed the need for BethesdaNet. If that is true, your welcome Fallout 4 players lol.

I heard recently that ZOS was the developer and Bethesda was the publisher, whatever that means.

so far it doesn't look like bethesda.net has much on it. I didn't think it was really going to do much until fallout 4 was released. Not sure what, if anything, they will really offer for ESO

Zenimax/Bethesda are taking a cue from Blizzard and developing their own battle.net, I assume.

Our ESO accounts may become Bethesda.net accounts.

I heard recently that ZOS was the developer and Bethesda was the publisher, whatever that means.

The ELI5 answer: The developers make the game, the publishers sell the game

The longer answer with some examples:

Zenimax Media is an umbrella company that exists for little purpose other than to own other companies and be a centralized place for things like HR, IT infrastructure, Payroll, etc.

ZM owns Bethesda Softworks (BSW)(not to be confused with Bethesda Game Studios), a publisher. They are responsible for marketing, the physical products, merchandising, distribution, etc. BSW has published pretty much all TES and Fallout games, among their other properties. BSW publishes games from, but not limited to, ZOS, Bethesda Game Studios, Arkane (Dishonored), Tango (The Evil Within), BattleCry, MachineGames, and id Software (Doom).

Bethesda Game Studios is a developer, just like ZOS, who developed all (i think) TES games, and all the Fallouts EXCEPT New Vegas, which was developed by Obsidian, and only published by BSW.

Now that that's out of the way, I think this is a whole plan by BSW (the publisher and the only real operating arm of all properties under the Zenimax Media umbrella) to give some cohesion and unity to all it's properties. I would venture to guess this may also be a long term goal to get these forums under that umbrella, but we'll see; the long term objective of the site still seems a bit unclear.

So what you're saying is... power armor DLC?

Thanks for clearing that up. Still murky what that quote means.

It would be nice if Bethesda allowing mods for Fallout 4 on Xbox would spill over to them allowing add-ons for ESO on the Xbox (and possibly PS4) too.

Power Armor DLC. That would be priceless. But yeah, I think once FO4 is released and the new games coming down the Bethesda pipeline are released, we'll get a better sense of what Bethesda.net is and how ESO will relate.

There is a lot they can help improve for console. But... what have they supported already, as they claimed? Support in game? On the support.elderscrollsonline.com site? The launcher?

Oh, and might as well get this out of the way now:

What an awkward name BethesdaNet is. They didn't have to use their name. Blizzard didn't.

Should have been GridNet in honor if their first game "Gridiron!".
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

Very accurate summary except Bethesda weren't responsible for FO1 & 2. You will really upset old school Fallout fans if you suggest that. Fallout 1 was developed and published by Interplay, Fallout 2 developed by Black Isle and published by Interplay.

Bethesda Game Studios is a developer, just like ZOS, who developed [...] all the Fallouts EXCEPT New Vegas, which was developed by Obsidian, and only published by BSW.

An except for Fallout 1 and 2.
So actually they only developed Fallout 3.
The worst one by far of the series, too. But that's not up for discussion here...

Yeah, people assume Bethesda *is* Fallout, but really they only developed one game in the franchise. And personally I thought New Vegas was actually better than 3 (blasphemy, I know).

Yeah my bad there. Get mixed up who developed the "older" versions of a series (TES and Fallout) and it all runs together. Sorry!

And now Fallout 4, but regardless, this is the same issue that still plagues ESO.

And I can see your point... I'd say NV was better overall regarding pretty much every game system, but I think FO3 was written better (slightly).
