You need to provide more information.

PC? Xbox? Playstation? North American or European server? Which alliance?

    Hello,
I'm not in the Ebonheart alliance, but I've got some advise you might find helpful. For lower levels, it's easiest to steal gear from the larger towns. From here you can either dismantle the pieces at the Blacksmith in the hopes of finding items you need or wear the stolen armor until you can make the armor you want/need. The guards won't take the stolen items unless you've committed a crime. Best of luck!

Theres no point using crafted gear until your vet 1, you'll out level things too fast, just go level and rank up for crafting skills while you do it.

K1ngMatr1x if you were on PC, North American server I could help you but I can't send stuff to a PS4. Good luck.

Huh. I guess I can quit crafting those set armors that my guild mates wear for 10 levels then. If you replace your armor every couple levels sure there's no point in crafted, just wear drops. But my people wear their set armors for 10 or even 15 levels at a time before needing a new set but then they are getting all the bonuses of wearing crafted set armors.

I would never suggest to people use the junk white stolen armor...its basically just world clutter you can pick up because people demanded you should be able to take any weapon or armor you see. The junk armors and weapons always have the lowest stats and no sell value. One of out guild was using the white stolen just, most of which was a few levels below his level and he was frustrated and constantly dying. Gear can make a huge difference in your success in ESO, wear the wrong gear and you'll be dying all the time, wear the right gear and your performance/survivability will go up.

I have to agree with the last poster. I craft gear for my self all the time and find that I wear it for 10 levels or so before needing to replace it and this is with no set bonuses. I am of course improving it and enchanting it myself as well.

There are specific crafting areas spread around the zones, one for each set. When you put your cursor over the crafting station you'll see the name of the set it makes. When you go to craft at that station tab over to Set Items.

Set stations can be found in the world and require you have researched a minimum number of traits to be able to craft set items. So lets say you want a 5 piece set of Ashen Grip gear...each piece of the set you create you must have researched at least two traits on. Two traits being the minimum traits researched to allow you to use that station for making set gear at that specific forge.

To get any effect out of wearing a set you must wear at least two pieces, the more pieces of the set you wear the more bonuses you get. Weapons do count toward set bonuses so if you're playing a sorcerer. 2 handed or archer you have 7 armor and 1 weapon you can use for a total of 8 pieces so you might wear 5 pieces of one set and 3 pieces of a different set or 4 pieces of one set and 4 pieces of another. If you're dual wield or sword and shield your second weapon or shield can be crafted at the set forges giving you a total of 9 pieces to work with.

The required number of traits will increase as you change zones and level at the higher level set forges.

2 traits - first zone Glenumbra, Auridon, Stonefalls
3 traits - second zone Stormhaven, Deshaan, Grahtwood
4 traits - third zone Rivenspire, Shadowfen, Greenshade
5 traits - fourth zone Alik’r Desert, Eastmarch, Malabal Tor
6 traits - fifth zone Bangkorai, The Rift, Reaper's March
8 traits Coldharbour, Mage’s Guild in Eyevea, Fighter's Guild at the Earth Forge

This site is great for showing the crafted set bonuses and their locations but the stats haven't been updated on the images to reflect the new bloated numbers. Basically just tack a 0 onto the end of the stats and you'll have an idea of the new stat numbers.

so if i don't have 2 traits researched i can't craft set items? so can i not craft set items at lvl 10? or should i try and research some traits?

Early on...research as much as possible. Researching is a very time consuming thing so you want to get as much done as early as possible. Don't worry too much about crafting sets unless you can get someone to make it for you.You mainly want to unlock the ability to craft the sets later.

Now, if you can craft a set at lower level that is useful to your current build and have the resources to make it, then obviously do so as you can wear it for some time and use the drops/rewards you get for further research or selling to other players.

Early research takes very little time.

The first trait for each piece is 6 hours, the second is 12, the third is 24.

Now this is per item, so if you go to a 2-set station and you have researched two sets for medium chest and light boots, but not for any kind of head piece, you can make the first two, but not the third.

Early on in the game, I was wearing very mismatched armor because I didn't have enough researched traits to make everything in the same weight.

All good questions and answers! I would add, determine whether or not you really want to craft and what kind of crafting you'd like to do. I will tell you it is great fun but can make your leveling journey last months (I spent a lot of time researching and crafting sets to sell and hit V1 after at least 100hrs of gameplay).

If you just want some new gear ever 6-10 lvls that's normal and healthy. I would suggest either take the time to find a couple sets that you research for and farm mats & craft yourself (and for others too to make some easy cash) or find a crafter like myself who can provide you with a new set for a fair price when you send them a request. I typically sell a 5 piece set of greens at just about any level for 800-1000g depending on my mood and how much the upgrade mats costed merecently (I tend to buy in bulk when I can and can profit fairly quickly and easily because I dont mind farming mats myself, ie ore, wood, fiber).

Try to not upgrade gear yourself unless you are high level crafter as a higher crafter can upgrade from gray to green with 100% certainty with say 3 honing, hemming etc., whereas you, at a lower crafting level may use 5 or 6 honing/hemming to upgrade with 100% certainty. I used to tip high level crafters to upgrade set pieces I had crafted using my mats (honing/hemming etc.) to either wear myself or even sell at higher profit margines. I somewhere in my rambling I could help, and I hope you have a wonderful journey in this cool little game!
