If they would bring elephants as amount it would indeed be a Mammoth.
In my opinion mammtohs would be to big for riding in a city. Think of The Rift with the bridges you'll need to cross.
A mammoth is also a big and heavy animal. They can be fast because they're big, so they would need to decrease the speed of running and then you'll regret having an mammoth as a mount.
