How exactly does this bow ability work? I can't tell if it is doing anything.

You activate it, do 7 light or heavy attacks to proc the spectral bow then use the ability again to fire the spectral bow. It's not a bow skill per se, but it fits nicely into the speedy light attacks you can do with a bow.

wait until 1.7 where the light attacks go down to 4. Then this skill will actually be worth more then a damage buff. :)
Banned for Naming and Shaming exploiters. Great ideology ZOS.

So once I see the spectral bow appear, I need to hit the ability again to get it to fire?

No, if you look on your ability bar grim focus is normally a red-colored icon. When you manage to get enough light/heavy attacks to 'proc' it, the icon will change to a purple bow-like picture. That's when you press the ability again, and it will fire the bow.

Will it be worthwhile in a Stam build as a damage ability at 4 attacks? I know the one morph grants a decent passive for stam, I'm just curious if the active part will put out enough damage to consider using it for a ranged option.

I highly doubt it will, especially for stamina builds.

Yeah, I didn't think so. I may pick it up for the Stam buff and free nuke ever 4 attacks just to see how it works (4 light attacks is nothing with canceling), but I suspect it will simply be too low.

Is there a time limit on how long you have before you can use the attack? If I had the skill on my second bar and activated it, then went to my 1st bar for the light attacks and procd it, would it still be waiting all charged up on the 2nd bar when I swapped back?

Yeah it work's like that. The proc only last's the duration though. Also you have to reactivate Grim Focus after you use the spectral bow.

You can hear the charge up for the skill. So if you use it, switch bar's. You will know when to switch back to use it.

I double dw and it's great for a finisher.

I don't utalize the spectral bow at the moment but once it goes down to 4 auto attack's it will be worth it.

For PvP I can say for certain it will be very viable. For PvE I don't have too much experience with NB dps so can't say for sure it will. But I don't see it a bad skill at all, who knows how much damage it adds if you can practically use it once every 10s. I have no idea.

I'm using it in my builds for dmg buf and stamina regen only

The damage it does is scaled to magicka i believe. using it on stamina builds was low on dps since you needed to have 8 hits to proc the effect.

It is good for stamina regen and the minor buff it gives, especially for stam builds. But once 1.7 hits live, 4 hits to proc might change the game for this ability. even if the damage is low, its frequent enough for Tanks / bow dps to hit the proc for extra damage.

Yeah, I don't think it's bad by any means, I'm just questioning it's value as a ranged nuke that is basically free damage attached to a buff. If the damage buff stacks with rally it may be worthwhile on my 2H build, but if it doesn't stack with the major buff I can see it being weaker even compared to hidden blade in dw which is getting the same damage buff that rally provides.

I'm looking at it mostly as a replacement for silver bolts on my tank bar in non daedric/undead dungeons, possibly a full replacement to keep the buffs.
