Have you ever done the Mary Sue/Marty Stu litmus test on your character

Just to see if they're a raging Mary Sue? I don't know if I'm allowed to post a link to it, but it's pretty interesting.
Here is the link (hopefully it shows up): http://www.springhole.net/writing/marysue.htm

I write, and I always wonder if my character is the much-dreaded Mary Sue type. Usually they are the opposite because I revel in flawed characters and a lack of cliches and that sort of thing. Maybe I don't love them like I should, lol.

I love that test so much ^.^ We were all in TS one day taking it and calling each other out hard for everything. Many giggles to be had.

    *chuckles* Interesting.
I can think of a couple of instances in the past where players were quite put out that their RP characters did not receive the Mary Sue treatment. Quite thought provoking really, thank you for the link.
If you can be anything, be kind.

That was pretty interesting / funny, first time I have ever heard of the "Mary Sue" term and totally worth a good chuckle. The test covered many aspects of a characters development that I didn't even consider. At least all my scores were within the low to moderate fan fiction areas.
23 for my AD Breton Sorcerer (who I RP as part wood elf, because I can)
Thanks for the link and distraction!

If we were to take into account the main story of ESO, the score would be off the charts...

Ah, the old Mary Sue challenge...
I remember that from my WoW days.

So I did this with the 2 ESO toons I play most frequently. They're just as unlikable as I suspected. Low to Moderate Mary Sue risk, even after accounting for all the main quest "I'm the Vestige, only I can save the world" baloney.

My character rated a 3. Not sure how I feel about her being a "hood ornament", since I put a lot of myself into her. Lol. Guess I'mboring.

I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a 'boring' character. Just as in real-life (something well try and emulate in one fashion or another with our role-play) there are all types; so too should there be in our fantasy-worlds. Perhaps try and not think of them as 'boring', perhaps they're 'quiet' or 'reserved' or don't just go blabbing their entire life story to every stranger they meet at the first 'hello' sent their way.

It's a little bit of a tangent, but have you seen a bunch of 'alpha' characters try and have a conversation, RP or otherwise? It can be simply painful and clumsy. The quiet characters can compliment situations where other more dominant ones simply convolute things. Quite characters provide a great counter-balance, listening and responds to dialogue and stimuli generated by others. They drive plot and conversation directions in a much more subtle, but just as important, fashion I think. A lid for every pot, as the saying goes.

She's not even particularly quiet. Just antisocial and a bit too comfortable in the background.

Mine are almost always quite low as well and they're definitely not boring. I think they're just more like regular people than crazy invented people.

THIS. So much. She seems less like a "character" and more like a person.
