How do you treat your alt characters?

Simple question that I'm wondering. I've always been focusing only on one character the most. My main. I invest everything in him, play him all the time and spend the most time on him. Now I wonder how do you guys treat your alts? For instance; do you play them seperately (you do not let them benefit from your main character - giving them gold, crafting gear etc), or do you consider them as your another mains, you actually share gold with them, traits and you have basically more mains, or they are just your "sidekick" chars to get rid of the boredom that is overwhelming you sometimes - just to ease off and let the steam off?

Also a side question: what horse would fit an Altmer the most? I was thinking of Palomino. Looks kinda exotic and is kinda yellow-ish too, though I made my Altmer not-so-yellow.

My v14s are all "mains" in that respect, as they all have full capped gear (as i can afford it they get it, by now all five have it), are played at least once a week each (sometimes 2 or more a day)

My three low level chars are my two Blackwater lowbies that I play when I feel like lowbie PvP, which is pretty rare nowadays, and my mule with max bagspace.

But any toon listed in my signature is a seriously played character, note one of my lowbies is even listed.

These responses are exactly what I wanted to know :o) I'd want to play some AD Altmer sorc but I want to invest a lot in him but I am afraid that I might get bored of my current DK main which I do not want to (because of well... reasons lol).
Anyway I am unsure wether I should have my alt be my second main. I have the gold needed to keep both as my mains, to support the weaker one.
In other words: I want to try out Altmer sorc once again but dunno how to treat him.

I freely share gold and gear and such between them (in fact, they all use crafted sets made by my crafter).

I find that I have a tendency to play one for a while, then start playing another for a bit when I start to feel like switching it up a little. Sometimes I'll have a goal in mind (like: I'll just complete Shadowfen with Fevassa first before moving on to playing another character, or I'll just get Neesha to VR2 first before moving on to playing another character), and sometimes it will just be a spur of the moment thing when I log on (hmm, I haven't played J'zarkha in a while, I'll use him today).

I just got my first character to VR14 (after playing since launch - that's what happens when you've got 16 characters across 2 accounts), so even though I haven't even finished Cadwell's Gold (or started Craglorn) with him, I'm likely going to give him a break for a while aside from doing pledges and trials (and maybe some PVP to get his Assault rank up to 6). Time to focus on some other characters.

My old char that I used to play before I had a 3 month stop due to college exams was VR8 and once I got back to the game I just used this one to make ny new character good, bought motifs, recipes and powerleveled blacksmithing for better deconstruction, reduced trait research time and hirelings.
So now my current main is 48lv, 900k gold and nothing to buy so I just donate to my guilds and really have nothing to spend the gold on but I want to try something different since playing DK over the last year (DK and nothing else) gets... not really boring but not as fun.

Also I wonder. If my Imperial horse is level 29 (20 speed, 9 storage) would keep the level and its current stats if I bought another horse that would more suit my Altmer but will it keep these stats or will I have to level it up seperately?

Mounts don't have individual stats anymore - now it's been translated into your character's riding skill. So your character has +20 to mount speed and +9 to mount capacity, meaning you can freely switch mounts without losing out.

I usually focus on one character I consider my 'main'. My mains tend to switch, but not often. If I level an alt that I like better than my current main, I'll make it my new main. Any old 'mains' become banks I might go back to later. Once I've played every class in the end I tend to choose one and stick with it.

Right, therefore it's not account-wide. What I was in mind was that since my 48lvl has +20 in speed and +9 in capacity, will other mounts have the same stats on my new 1lvl character?

With the exception of my mule and an alternate alliance toon, I have no real alts.

I have a stamina templar for PvE, a healer for PvE, a tank for PvE who is still being leveled and a NB for PvP. Some might get played less depending on needs and activities, but they all get an opportunity for me to practice with or play them.

I have 4 Mains and 4 Mules. The Mules just run Hirelings, do low level crafting writs and hold stuff for me. Although two of them have almost maxed out horses.

As for my Mains, I tend to play one character for a week or three, then another one. This keeps the Caldwells Gold and Silver Fresh. I just got one to VR14, one is on the cusp of VR13, one is close to VR10, the other is VR8ish (might even be VR9). Anyway, it's a fresh approach loading up a character I have not played in a few weeks. Plus, get lots of Champ points to spend each time I bring one out of mothballs.

Of course I will log to any Main if someone needs help in the faction they are in.

Well my first character is now my mule, the rest are mains of the moment. Kinda, I have a sorc that 1.6 destroyed(because PVP QQ) and I'm really not interested in rebuilding her so she checks mail and does enchanting/provisioning writs

IC is going to kill *my tank* (my tanking skillz not OP)....you guessed it because of PVP QQ...I already respecc'ed her into Firemage, but I would not have chosen her race had I known

Otherwise they serve a purpose, healer, pvp, solo...just depends what I'm in mood for while playing.

ZOS needs to offer FREE race and class changes to vet toons when they make major changes imo, or learn that trying to keep pvp and pve tied together is always going to produce ticked off players and separate them.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

Ah, no. Each individual character has to level their own riding skills. I took the time to get all 8 characters on my main account up to 60/60/60 (most of which was done in the time between the announcement of the change to mounts and when the change was actually implemented, so I was feeding 3 different horses on each character each day), but didn't bother with the characters on my second account...

As far as this goes, no, the character has it's own riding skill. You'll have to start over again on each additional character.

All my characters are equal. They all deposit gold into my bank and any of them will withdraw from it if they need to buy something. If one character needs gear and another is a crafter, he/she will make it for them. I only have a "main" in the sense that one character was started first and as a result is higher level than the others.

Btw, how do you name your alts? For example your storage chars? Or how do you name your characters anyway? My main is Imperial and I made him a name composed of two latin words. Now I'm trying to come up with a fitting Altmer name.

One bears a variant of my own name in a more elvish tone (I kept it from LOTRO), one is my 6 year olds nickname as she designed that one(her real name came from my toon in Oblivion), and the rest are some variant of Bunny lol. No "lore friendly" for me.

Lil Bunny Foo Foo was taken :'( It would be awesome of they could institute a system where 6 months of inactivity your toons lost their names, just the name only.

I have 3 characters that I play somewhat equally, it just depends on what I feel like doing. I have a healer, a tank and a dps. They all share gold and resources and when one needs something, they take from that pool.

Though if I had to pick a main, It would have to be my healer; as she is higher level and I play her slightly more than the other two.

I have ~ 3-4 mains, but focus on 1 for a few weeks at a time. The others are either things I've tried that are on the backburner or mules.

At first I helped them all from the start with potions, gold, armor, etc. Then I made the kids at least finish the starter islands or maybe get to lvl 10 before I gave them any gold or crafted armor.
With my last one, I made her get to lvl 20 and be able to contribute some substantial gold to the bank before she got anything. This helped her self-esteem immensely.

I only have one character and don't plan on making another until I've done all the content.

However, my son plays and we coordinate resources and crafting between his and mine.

I provision and make the stacks we both use. He contributes by adding ingredients to the bank when he finds them. In the reverse, he does alchemy. There is a great farming area in Eastmarch for fish bait that he's done and banks for me. There are other things too such as whose turn it is to pay for the next bank upgrade.
