PvP in this game...is awful

dalldubspell
I'm really struggling to see how it is fun. All that ever happens is dozens of people from two teams running at each other, and usually it's whoever has the most people wins. Siege engines are a joke because seeing exactly what you are hitting with them is difficult.

Also, you spend most of the time running around trying to get to the one battle that's happening on the gigantic map. And when you die, you have to run forever to get to the battle again. I'm very disappointed in the PvP.

Anyone else agree? If you disagree, maybe you could shed some light as to what makes pvp fun in this game.

Are you kidding? I absolutely enjoy how my Enforcer character can gank criminal scum in the streets and ...

I disagree. Having played a few other MMO's where PvP is nothing more than mindless killing and learned to despise it utterly, I rather found the PvP in ESO refreshing, and I actually enjoy it myself.
Primarily for the reasons you listed that you don't like it. I love to siege, and storm a castle or a fort with a load of my alliance members and battle to take control.
Objectives make it so much more enjoyable - at least, they do for me.

I just wish traveling wasn't such a *** in Cyrodil. The map is too big and there aren't enough players to utilize it. In that, there's only like one battle going on in the entire zone.

The pvp in this game is the best in an mmo to date that I have ever played. And I'm an old gheezer (over 50). Started out playing UO back in 97. Back in my day we had to run uphill to go retrieve our corpses....both ways!

Seriously, the look, feel and game play of the pvp is second to none in my opinion. I really hope this game has a long run.

Are you using the port stone to port to keeps in your supply line? from there it only takes a few minutes to ride your horse to the next keep. Upgrade your horse riding skill every day and your horse gets much faster.

If you dont like the big army battles dont go to them. Go to the towns on the map and do their quests. You can also go to teh enemies territory and hunt enemy players doing the quests in their towns.

Also since everyone can sneak you can wiat at key locations on the road and pick off enemy players

If you are under level 49 make sure you are in a NON vet campaign.

I hope the game has a long run too, but I would like smaller pvp battlegrounds.

Yes, a lot of players like working in large groups, but there is still skill involved in those battles, and it's not always the greater numbers that win. If you don't like that style of fighting (which is something I too don't particularly like) there are still smaller-scale battles that can be found around the edges or these 'zergs' and elsewhere. One just has to be a little clever.

It's true that siege engines take a little to get use to, and in some situations it can be very difficult to see what you're hitting. However, with a little practice I believe you can overcome this problem. Like anything they're a skill that can take a little time to master. They can be very useful in Cyrodiil.
Also, you spend most of the time running around trying to get to the one battle that's happening on the gigantic map. And when you die, you have to run forever to get to the battle again. I'm very disappointed in the PvP.
At present this is the main consequence of dying in Cyrodiil. Your spacial dislocation from the battlefront, and subsequent riding back to where the action is, is intended. It's an important mechanic which without it would make such things as taking territory/forts/etc extremely difficult as well as completely trivializing the value of your character's 'life'.
Anyone else agree? If you disagree, maybe you could shed some light as to what makes pvp fun in this game.
It's true PvP is not perfect. There are some gross mechanic imbalances still and when the lag hits inevitably in large battles, the game is often unplayable. It can however be extremely enjoyable too. It's best to try and keep in mind that PvP is interacting with/against other players and as such the experience is unpredictable; you have to take the good with the bad.

At the end of the day, like everything else, PvP in Cyrodiil is not for everyone. If you've found that through experience you do not like it, then it's probably best to not take part in that aspect of the game.
If you can be anything, be kind.

I can only compare it to Gw2's wvw since it is the only one I ve played similar to AvA in ESO, and I find ESO much more enjoyable, for the sole reasons you ve listed.

I like the fact that anyone can setup any siege by themselves and contribute to the fight, rather than begging other players to help building my blueprint, then get ROFLSTOMPED seconds later by golems; I like how u die, u go home and run back. No rally, no second wind, no self-revive.

Problems I find with current Cyro:
    1. Lag
    2. Exp gain too low
    3. Ppl dont want to grind VR levels join Cyro only to be insta-killed in less than a second.
    4. Just yesterday I came across someone using macros

Hopefully the upcoming AvA changes will make it better.

Sorry I missed this and didn't address it.

I love the fact that I am constantly having to do the classic OODA loop. I play a magicka nb and most of the time I wander around the back lines looking for targets. So it's always Observe, Orient, Decide and then Act. The game requires that you really hone your situational awareness. There are so many intricacies to your build and how it interacts with other builds.

Strategically the game is well designed to focus player combat along the inner ring and then into the back home keeps/scroll temples. Having three factions with the symmetrical layout provides an nice negative feedback mechanism to keep play balanced assuming that populations are balanced as well. I think it speaks a lot for the design that each side is convinced that the other two are always forming a choose your color alliance against them.

Right now on Azura, EP was making a Chalamo last stand against the combined AD and DC forces so they could keep their emperor on the throne. EP had intercepted a DC scroll retrieval and brought the scroll to keep as well. High drama. I had to get off because of the tyranny of netflix and dsl but it was really fun fighting off wave after wave of smurfs and bananas. I hope they held. Countless stories like this one have been told around the campfires since the game launched.

Finally, the game is beautiful. I love the gritty aesthetics of the armor. I take time off from pvp to just go fishing and admire the scenery. Finally caught that blue Rainbow Zendar!

We have lost a few good soldiers to netflix and dsl (Australia here where netflix is a recent addition to the landscape and our internet speeds are sub-par without the added strain on bandwidth).

Most now PvE or grind CP until after 11pm when they can get on to PvP for an hour.

Honestly, if it wasn't for those seemingly endless damage shields and roll dodging(yes, I know roll dodging is going to be nerfed), I think PvP might be a bit more enjoyable. It still has potential, it just needs some changes, well, maybe more than some.

I personally love PVP in this game. Although if you are still sorting out a good PVP build and playstyle, I do understand it is tedious at first, especially all the horse riding simulater game play. Haha

For example, I have recently started playing a templar in vet PVP, while I do fairly well with my Burst NB, trying to play a templar is hard for me because of the vast differences in abilities, play style and tactics I need to employ. But slowly and surely I am figuring it out, and am finding that with time I am getting better at not dying, and getting better at killing enemies. Just yesterday I was able to kill 2 out of 3 enemies attacking me before the last one got the killing blow. With my NB, this never would have been possible, due to the differences between a Burst NB and a sustain templar.

So yeah, my point is, it is hard, and it sucks a bit, but once you figure some stuff out, it makes it a lot easier and much more fun.

try looking at builds online, on youtube, etc. for ideas for where you might want to take your class with regards to PVP.

I don't find roll dodging a problem, it is a bit of an annoyance, but you can overcome it. Damage shields are hard on sorcs though I must admit.

same - started on UO, and then EQ, quit MMO's took a 15 year break. back on ESO - the pvp is very good/fluid/skill based not like archeage/WoW/other mmo's where you just click on rotation 1 - 30 on timers... yes it does suffer form lag and occasional glitches but better than anything else out there. I moved to PS4. much better experience than on PC

For an older game Dark Age of Camelot was a hundred times better.
