Leave crafting til veteran?

Hey crafter. Am I right in thinking that I should not start developing the crafting trees until I get to veteran? I noticed that my levelling is quite fast (I'm 25atm) and whatever I craft needs constant recrafting to keep up with my increasing level. That means blowing tons of resources! So I thought I might be better levelling up the skills by deconstructing and stuff, and start putting some serious points when I reach at least veteran level. Does it make sense? All I've invested in is keen eye and the one that gives u better chances of extracting higher quality materials...

No start early...it can take a month to research the last traits on each item. Deconstruct stuff every chance you get, refine ores/woods/cloth whatever it is you plan to craft, do the daily writs.

Yeah, start crafting before vet. Those resources are easy to find, you won't miss them later. Just if you craft something for a toon, it's not worth improving it very much. I usually just do green or small and blue on bigger pieces for non-vet chars. Depends on how much mats you have.

Yes. But, do your Trait Research too. Don't wait on that. You need 2 to 3 traits known to make some powerful gear, and 5 to 6 traits for some of the best crafted gear. That can take a couple of months to research every item, a month to research that which you only use (10/11 items). Chasing the 7th through 9th traits, that is months of time.

One thing to consider is, you only need to put a point into Materials every 10 or so levels to make stuff your character can use as it levels, and you don't really need Special Crafted Sets while leveling, just gear you can use. Maybe put a point into the Temper Passive. But, your only going to Green while leveling (as it is a waste to go much beyond that for the most part) and Green Tempers are easy to get.

Yeah I'm researching traits too. Luckily I realized earlier on in the game that I need to have a certain amount of traits unlocked in order to craft sets. The reason why I don't want to invest SP in crafting at this stage is because I'd rather unlock all the abilities and passives I need for more serious Pvp first..

You do have to balance between being Crafty and being Deadly.

At least until around VR6 or so when you will have an excess of points if your only developing two combat skills. Also, you don't need to fill out all the passives in equipment crafting to be a efficient crafter, Material levels and Temper passives are all you need to make stuff. So, figure 5 to 8 points for materials, and 3 points for Tempers. Extraction and Research Passives are just there to help you get trained up. You can respec those points out once your done with that part. Keen Eye, I use for Cloth, but wood and metal is easy to find so no need for that. Heck, most Cloth nodes I can see from across the view space without Keen Eye. Except Jute, for some reason that one is hard for me to see. Probably because it is in the over-farmed zones and there is none to see.

I think I will hoarde material and level up the skills. When I feel I have unlocked all the skills and passives I need for combat I will begin to invest into crafting trees, making items I won't have to remake after a short while...

You can safely ignore crafting until V14, by that time it will take less than hour to hit 50 in anything crafting related. Keep researching stuff from beginning though because it will take months. I expect them to sell stuff to speed it up in the crown store if it isn't there already, as these games usually go.

I think you're on the right track. You can wear gear from quests and loot drops up to level 50. That means you don't need to put any points into equipment crafts. Just level the skills by deconstructing. Points in extraction is good, as you will accumulate more tempers for when you are ready to craft. Don't ignore Alchemy, Provisioning and Enchanting. For alchemy, you'll want to get the waters as you pass through each zone, otherwise you'll need to go back for them or buy them. Use the more or less useless mushrooms to make useless potions that still level the skill. For provisioning, learn all the recipes you find, and find as many as you can. Don't sell these until you have learned it already. Particularly useful are the '5' recipes (15, 25, 35, 45) because they will level you faster with few ingredients. For enchanting, just decon every glpyh you loot, and get the potency (blue) runes as you pass through each zone.....like alchemy waters, it's easier to go up in level if you have a good supply of level appropriate material. Be aware that enchanting is painfully slow to level (though it's much better than it used to be).

If you haven't already, make some alts to act as mules to hold all the resources until you are ready to put time and skill points into your crafts.

edit: the hard part for crafting is finding the skill points. Don't ignore Cyrodil, there are many skyshards, and PVP leveling also rewards SP. Same with public and group dungeons....skill points. And when you reach your silver and gold zones, nothing stops you from collecting all the skyshards in each zone, though in higher levels the guarded ones may be tricky or impossible without help when you are below level.
