Should I switch to PS4 version?

Hi all,

I quit playing this game a long time ago and have come back since F2P for the PVE.

The PVP still lags like crazy because I have an AMD 8 core (FX 8120) and this game doesn't really utilize the cores properly.
I get 70+FPS in dungeons, 50 FPS during PVE. Maybe 35 in busy towns, and about 15 in large battles. (GTX 970 video card).

I was debating about upgrading my CPU recently, but I realized this is the only game that doesn't run pretty much perfect for me, and was thinking of getting a PS4 for other games.

How is this game on PS4? It seems there is no chat, but the graphics are just as good.

Anyone have any opinions they'd like to share? Do they enjoy PS4 More than PC? Pros / Cons?

Thanks,

Ps4 version is Great for me, there is a chat which is more vocal than text chat ie: area chat , group chat or in guild chat rooms which you can switch between easily, inventory could be laid out a little better, and i wish the guild bank would stack items but apart from that, Eso is basically the only game i play on the ps4 at the moment. (hope this helps)

    Thanks,

Graphics look about the same to me at 1080p. Draw distances are a little shorter and there is a little more "pop-in," but other than that I don't see much of a difference. Frame rates are pretty solid on the PS4. Haven't noticed much drop even in crowded battles. About the only thing I miss are zone text chat and add-ons. But built in voice chat is really nice. Met some great people that way and had some interesting conversations.

Plus you get free games with Playstation Plus (and it's only about $40 a year). This month you can get Drive Club and that RC car soccer game everyone is talking about for free (and you get to keep them for as long as you keep subscribed).

ESO plays really well with a controller too.

You should absolutely switch to PS4. I can't speak for anyone else, but I experience no lag. The game looks great and runs pretty smoothly. My only gripe is the occasional crash or two, lack of text chat and clueless people with terrible headsets.

The only reason PvP on the consoles is not lagging to death yet is because the console community has yet to embrace the zerg mentality and find just the right exploits.

Use the money that would be spent on the PS4 and upgrade the CPU and motherboard with an Intel setup. Move into an SSD if you haven't already. Grab a second 970 down the road for SLI and prepare for game and software domination.

Dumb thing to point fingers and blame platforms for. Blame ZOS for the set up. If there is an easy way to go about something or exploit it, most players will find it and do it. ZOS promised battles with "hundreds" of players....in which their mega server turned out to not be so mega.

Maybe if they had concentrated on the smaller battles, oh I don't know...the players wanted/want there would be less lag issues. Bad design is bad design.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

Not true, meteor is being used and large battles with zergs are abundant.
Even our own groups are always full.
There is some lag during these as expected, but nothing that stops things from working.
    No exploits, just ZOS bugs.

I like the simplicity of a console and controller. When I game on PC it seems to high maintenance to me with all the buttons and obligatory addons. I also like the movement controls of a controller much better. I know not everyone shares my opinion but it's what I'm use to and enjoy.

I'm the exact opposite of that and can back it up with whatever evidence you'd want. PC is better, period. It costs more, but it's better. By that, I'm referring to possible performance, graphics and audio. If you're willing to spend what you need, and are capable of knowing what settings to use then a console can't compare to the end product that a PC can put onto the screen in front of you.

The overall experience for a new or returning player is a lot better on ps4 right now than on PC.

Both versions have their advantages, the UI, controller and voice chat on console all work really well, there are things I miss and raids are a little more difficult without any hard numbers to time phases and so on but the really big difference is the playerbase on console is still excited about the game and still working on completing content.

As someone that has played both pc and Ps4 versions , the Ps4 is fine. I've experienced no lag , gfx are great and runs smooth. It'll take some time to adjust to controller but it shouldn't take long. For whatever reason its just a hipster thing to rag on consoles. Shows lack of character imho.

Played both. PC graphics are better. Not huge, but you can tell the difference. Might be the fps, but you in can tell if you really pay attention. For someone who likes a good MMO, the difference is marginal and whatever. Game play goes to PS4. Looks like they almost developed the game for console and ported it. BUT the controller buttons need an option to re-bind. The weapon switch is awkward. But smooth game play and for some reason, less lag. Seriously, less lag. Convenience goes to PS4. Sorry, but hanging on the sofa with 2 or 3 friends, drinking, watching a 2ft sized Daedra on a 65 inch screen in my den before we drove to Atlantic City was the bomb. That being said, as much as I love PS4, communication and the text chat box are the reason you get the game for PC if you are planning on going vet levels and endgame. If you really want that MMO endgame, PC because of the chat box. If not, and you like a great RPG with some MMO elements with some online friends, sit back on the sofa and enjoy the PS4.
.... I have to admit, the devs do listen to reason, if not to the forums. Thank you for "nameplates", a welcome addition to immersion, as well as the text chat box for PS4, which only comes on the screen when I need it too, and helps this gameplay SO MUCH MORE then without it. THANK YOU for the additions. Very much appreciated.

Not a hipster and never ragged on consoles, I simply gave an honest answer that you can't refute. PC is the higher end experience in regards to pushing the boundaries of game settings.

    Consoles I've owned:

    Atari 2600
    NES
    SNES
    Nintendo Gamecube
    Sega Genesis
    Sega CD
    Neo Geo
    PS1
    PS2
    PS3
    Xbox 360

Alongside consoles I've played games on the Commodore 64, to the Apple II line-up, through the 286 to 486 systems. The modern PC is the highest end experience for gaming if you're willing to shell out more money and take the time and possible frustration when getting everything setup. That's why I stopped buying consoles and instead invest into a high end PC. Maybe that's not for everyone, but it's the truth regardless of you throwing around insults.

    Edit: Forgot the Neo Geo.

I'd have to agree with J on this one. Although your experience with consoles is extensive (and brought back some awesome memories, so thank you); none of those consoles even came close to their PC counterparts for the years those consoles were out. PS4 would be the exception, seeing as it has been compared to PC in development for games and hardware (albeit a lower end PC, but a PC nonetheless).

.... and Samurai Showdown for Neo Geo was the bomb. Fantastic memories.

For starters.. the graphics on PC (on a high end computer) blow everything out of the water if you just care about graphics.

With that said.... both XB1 and PS4 look great and play smooth... XB1 seems to be a lot less laggy/hiccups than PS4.. I don't own it on PS4 but my buddy does and I have a character on there.. I may pick it up for PS4 as well if I had more friends playing it but right now PC and XB1 ARE PLENTY!

I don't really like the PS4 controller with it then again I'm tall and have big hands so that controller is not optimal for me but I also like to play in first person and let's face it, the XB1 controller or Keyboard/Mouse is the way to go for first person.

If you have friends who you'll play with on PS4 and you're happy with it, go for it. It's nice on a big screen for starters... the voice chat can be both a blessing and a curse. You can still text/mail people, the UI/menus are along the lines of Skyrim and so will be pretty familiar... although I can't imagine having my PC inventory on console.. that will be a headache to constantly sort through.

If they are not going to put mods on the console versions (I'm curious if XB1 will be since they will be getting FO4 mods).... they should at least entertain the idea to build in some features from the most popular mods to make everyone's experience better. Guild store searches, having your last search remain until you click a button to clear it so you can bounce around between Guild Merchants, etc.. would be a major plus.

Surprisingly the combat is very fluid... more so on the XB1 for me than PS4.... the world's are highly populated... you will be able to tell who the vets (from PC) and who are the newcomers.. plenty of both. Prices for items are a bit chaotic there... local voice chat can be annoying but you can x out of it easily. Guild voice chat is nice as long as people don't leave mics open, in which case you can x out of the chat. Party chat is GREAT.. built in Team Speak! I just find XBox Live to consistently perform better than PSN... this is nothing new but going back years now and still.... so my experience there is smoother. Graphically they look identical XB1/PS4. So... it's hard to say should you? Where will you have the most fun? It's different for everyone... I am not giving up my PC account, but I will continue to play on XB1 as well and if enough PS4 friends wind up playing I may even (I know it sounds crazy but...) pick up my own copy on PS4 as well... right now though totally unnecessary and I'd never have the time.

They should also integrate text chat... I love the emote list... found some that I didn't even realize were there (unless they were added??) either way..... there are pros and cons for sure. Maybe start off with renting it from Gamefly or another service... see how you like it and decide to buy it or not.

I don't see why ZOS shouldn't add in features though of the most popular mods that are used on PC which make people's experience much more smooth and immersive. Of course, having the option to toggle them should be a thing for those that dislike it.. then everyone wins.

TL;DR Either make the plunge and give it a whirl or rent it and if you like it choose the buy option from Gamefly... or go buy it new, etc... either way I find it enjoyable on both consoles overall and obviously PC. I am just really wanting some new content  ... as many of us been-here-since-Beta people are waiting for.

Honestly, I've not purchased either of those because I spent way too much money and time on my current PC setup. It was a bit overboard but I've been enjoying it and hey, that's why I work stupid hours of overtime.

As far as the two latest consoles I readily admit that my opinion is based on magazine (yes, I still have subscriptions to print) / internet articles, discussions with other gamers, comparing specs, screenshots and video, performance numbers and such. Correctly or not, I feel that I've enough familiarity with consoles and computers that I can form a fairly accurate opinion on where everything stands even if I've little to no hands-on experience with said new console hardware.

I love tech and I love gaming and lately with the release of the two newest consoles I've been finding more people who will argue me up one wall and down another that consoles have fully caught up to the top experience a computer can give. I must disagree: Yes, the gap has closed dramatically in regards to gaming and media entertainment capability but overall I feel the PC is still capable pushing the experience further, much further if you are in the lucky situation to throw dumb amounts of cash around for the best performance gear.

After the PS3/Xbox 360 I decided it was time to leave consoles behind and to finally go all-in in regards to building a no-compromise high-end gaming and workhorse PC, and it was worth it to me. Aside from exclusive games, I've had no desire to jump into the new wave of consoles. However, I'll fully admit to being utterly covetous of some of the exclusives!

I may have come off as feeling mightily superior, but that wasn't my intention. I just made a simple reply to the original poster in regards to my opinion on what would be best for him and it irked me how a couple of the replies were so childish. So thank you for bringing up a valid point and doing it intelligently.

There's also a lot more mic spam and shouting in the Console versions because there is no Text Chat.

You're correct, things have come a very long way with performance in console-land. I believe the PC is still the better option thus I've eschewed the current crop of next-gen consoles, and having a blast pushing my graphics settings as far as I can get them. I truly believe that in regards to the original poster and what hardware he stated he's currently using, if he spent the money to update his PC he would have a higher-end experience. If he'd rather have an easier, immediate solution then one of the new consoles should serve him well enough.

My cousin who I played many PC games with — especially MMOs like Dark Age of Camelot, Shadowbane and beta-WoW — has moved away from the PC in preference of the PS4. I personally feel he's gone slightly mad, but he's loving it so they obvisiously did something right.

No problem! Some legendary games released across the spread of those systems. Yes, that was a good one! :D
