ESO is getting rekt in reviews - 6/10's all around

In my personal experience from two decades of reading these things: never trust a so-called professional review. There's way too much money involved; it's naive to think that doesn't play a factor one way or the other.

Waiting to push hundreds of bug fixes into a DLC patch? It deserves the bad reviews and I hope its a wake up call to ZOS. They need to get it together. Corporations are completely incompetent and act like they have it all figured out.

I pay attention to user reviews only. On meta critic if several hundred users have reviewed a game, ill lend credence to what consensus is.

They have been wrong so many times, movies, games etc..
When I have learned something, I only can trust my own taste.

the concept is if one or two opinion is bad, it doesn't really matter, but if there are a lot of them, we cannot be blind.
people enjoy different things in different way and different level. what those reviews do is just tell us what the majority like.

i don't like buy things 'sight-unseen', so i always check metacritic before, because there are lot of reviews and user ratings too. then, if i buy a game underated and it really is, i can complain only myself.

    Ugh...

People, reviewers can't be taken seriously. The Gamespot review was not written according to online journalism review rules, and the other review...well, let's see what holes I can find it.

I've played many great games that scored bad reviews (same goes for movies etc.). Reviews are nothing but someone's opinion which i respect but, judging a game purely on that is just, lame. As much as i love ESOTU i myself wouldn't give it a higher score than 8/10. But there just isn't an MMO i would rate more.

NOTE: I really doubt that GameSpot, Eurogamer and Polygon spent any considerable time in this game. All of them gave it a 6. From what i read, it sounds to me like one of them played the game for about 6 hours, gathered some data from the official blog and called the others to say what his opinion is. Also in the past they gave great scores to games i thought were complete shite. So yeah, it's all just one's opinion. They all get extra bonuses (beforehand) from game developers if they give a game a good score (you would be lying to yourself if think otherwise).

    LONG LIVE ESOTU!!!

I agree with the reviews. The game is slightly above average. Combat isn't anything special, quests are voiced but at their core are the same grindy quests all MMO's have, PvP content is mediocre; just a huge zerg in Cyrodiil, and don't even get me started on the ridiculous champion point and veteran rank grinding.

I think any fair minded person will agree that ESO isn't anything revolutionary. With that being said, it's NOT a bad game either.

Am I the only one who finds it interesting that these reviews have come out the moment the first DLC is announced? Sounds like a concerted hatchet job.

the above 64 reviews are from april - may 2014

    6/10 = wrecked?

    LOL

Yeah, I'm not quite wrapping my head around this sentiment either.

a 6/10 isn't even on the "slightly negative" side of the scale.

I prefer to form my own opinions, rather than let some two bit reviewer make my decisions for me simply because the game isn't to his taste.
The game has a few issues, but overall, its given me many hours of enjoyment and I hope it will continue to do so. As long as it does, I'll keep subscribing, no matter what stupidity appears in so called "reviews".

    Edit, typo.
