Is provisioning worth it?

I'm level 17 overall and about 6 or 7 in provisioning with no skill points being put into it. Recently started picking up whatever food/drink ingredients I can find to make stuff. It seems like it takes up a lot of my space though. The effects from the recipes are pretty nice, but is it justified when it takes up so much room?

I have wondered that too. I have read things that imply late game recipes that are very important need a high provisioning level.

I think food increases stat max for periods of time, while alchemy (outside of invisibility etc) restores stats.

I do not know if food effects stack or not.

I think it becomes important for late game?

Provisioning is the easiest to level. It will go up with your character with things you make. You want food buffs, it will amaze you what damage you do when you buff your Magic or Stamina to support your skills, or health to keep you alive. Writs are a great source of recipes and ingredients. The first couple of writs might be tricky if you don't have the recipe, but you can buy them or the crafted food to do those.

As for space, you only need to make 3 types of recipes, Health, Stamina, or Magic. You may only use one of those depending on your build. Soon you will find Blue Recipes that let you buff two attributes, then purples that let you buff 3 attributes.

Anyway concentrate on your favorite recipes and only keep those ingredients. Sell or toss the rest. Or, roll a mule character and have them hold the excess. You only need 2 to 6 ingredients to keep you in food buffs as you play. Double that if you do the drinks.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
